Abstract

To detect the presence of free radicals in materials, a traditional Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) requires repeating setting values of the external magnetic field (B0)  as well as the frequency of microwave signal (u) to achieve resonance conditions, and it must be conducted manually. The procedure requires considerable time, so that become ineffective. In this paper, we propose a simple technique to improve the functionality of the traditional ESR by implementation of ramp-type magnetic field and high-speed data acquisition system. In here, we generate ramp-type voltage signal based on PIC16F876 microcontroller as the main device. This signal is converted to the current source by using the circuit of V to I converter, then injected to the Helmholtz coil to generate a ramp-type magnetic field. Some experiments are carried out in order to make validation and determine the performance of the developed system. By the technique, the traditional ESR becomes an automatic ESR-spectrometer and has the capability to identify some kinds of free radicals faster. Keywords: ESR, free-radical, ramp-B.

Abstract

The use of high-resolution remote sensing image data is necessary to distinguish essential plants with other plants. This study uses image data taken using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to identify essential plants especially citronella and kaffir lime. To distinguish the structure of essential plants with other objects used texture features extracted by wavelet daubechies method. The features that have been ekstract, then is grouped based on the proximity feature with the Self Organizing Map (SOM) Neural Network. Thus, objects that have similar features will clump together. The tests were conducted on two groups of data sets,  where the first group data consisted of plants, buildings and vacant lots, while the second group data consisted only of plants. The results of testing of the first data group shows that the techniques can recognize the citronella plants among other objects, especially building objects and bare land with purity of 0.862745 and Silhouette Coeficient of 0.5520671. While in the second data group, the value of purity and Silhouette Coeficient decreased to 0.737705 and 0.161028. However, from  the test of the second data group still shows that the method used can distinguish citronella crops to other plants.

Abstract

The performance of hydrate was shown by the hydrate formation rate, the hydrate stability, and the storage capacity. In the study, we investigated the hydrate performance by influencing the rotation of crystallizer that predicted to increase the agitation of the hydrate performance. The hydrate represent the bond of water molecules and gas absorbed by the water molecules. In the experiment, we used the 50% propane and 50% butane as the gas absorbed. The gas was injected in a crystallizer at 3 bar pressure, then the crystallizer was rotated by 100, 200, and 300 rpm. The results shows that the best performances of hydrate when the crystallizer was rotated at 300 rpm. The crystallizer rotation speed of 300 rpm had the highest the formation rate and the decomposition rate. The highest decomposition rate indicated  the highest stability. Meanwhile, the highest hydrate storage capacity was also occured at the rotation  of 300 rpm  as 2809 V / V.

Abstract

Frozen semen supplemented by Oviduct Specific Glycoprotein (OVGP) is a new way to solve the decrease of in vitro fertility on goats caused by polyspermy and to increase the efficiency of artificial insemination on goats. Oviduct Specific Glycoprotein has associated with zona pellucida and localized in perivitelline space. The existence of Oviduct Specific Glycoprotein in perivitelline space may be linked to a mechanism that blocks polyspermic through vitelin block. Oviduct Specific Glycoprotein can be found in the fluid that was secreted by the oviduct (oviductal fluid). This study was aimed to determine Oviduct Specific Glycoprotein profile in the oviductal fluid of Kacang goats Malang district, West Java Province, Indonesia. Oviduct Specific Glycoproteins were collected from an oviductal liquid of kacang goats and samples were loaded to 12% SDS-PAGE to determine the weight of the molecule of Oviduct Specific Glycoprotein, further confirmed by western blot. The result of this study showed that molecule weight of Oviduct Specific Glycoprotein been collected from oviductal liquid was approximately 55-65 kDa. After being confirmed by western blotting the molecule weight of Oviduct Specific Glycoprotein was 65 kDa.

Abstract

Gasohol can be replaced in the spark ignition engine (SI engine) as gasoline substitution having lower emissions exhaust gas, making it more environmentally friendly. The aim of study was to investigate the effect of gasoline- ethanol  ratio on the gas exhaust emission of SI engine injection system. In this study, it was used the 4-stroke gasoline engine injection system by using the injector as a fuel input device. The engine had a 124.8 cc single-cylinder engine with compression ratio of  9.3:1. The variations of gasohol were gasohol E0, E10, E20, E30, E40, E50, E60, E70, E80, E90 and E100 with range of speeds; 1500 rpm, 2000 rpm, 2500 rpm, 3000 rpm, 3500 rpm, 4000 rpm, 4500 rpm and 5000 rpm. The research was run by rearranging the standard ECU to obtain the AFR stoichiometric of each gasohol mixture. The exhaust emissions were measured by using the Stargas-898. The results show that the addition of ethanol content was able to increase the CO2 emissions , however, it would decrease the CO and HC levels. Compare to the gasoline fuel, gasohol has a lower emission of CO, HC and higher of  CO2 and O2 emissions.

Abstract

Non-thermal pasteurization process using Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) today has been used particularly in processed food products are easily contaminated. One cause contamination of processed products is the high number of microbes in the product example is a green cane juice (Saccarum officinarum) and thus require proper handling process is to conduct non-thermal pasteurization using Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) continuous system. This study aims to reduce the total number of microbes and it maintains the physical and chemical qualities of green cane juice. In this study also added sodium benzoate which serves to inhibit microbial growth and increase shelf life of cane juice. This study uses a Randomized Complete Block design (RCB) with 2 factors that PEF continuous voltage (20, 30 and 30 kV) and the addition of sodium benzoate concentrations (200, 400, and 600 ppm) with 2 replications. Best research results at a voltage of 40 kV and a concentration of 600 ppm sodium benzoate. In this combination had a mean number of total microbes of 4.15 x 106 cfu / ml, TPT at 12.9 ° brix, total cave of 11.61%, a viscosity of 5.5 cp, the color on the brightness value (L *) of 24.1, redness (a *) of 7.1 and yellowness (b *) of 7. Abstract

Unsuitability land uses have significant impact on conditions of many river basins along line from upstream to downstream  through the cities in Indonesia. Water of Brantas upstream running along line through Batu City from Bumiaji Sub-District to Junrejo Sub-District may show varied concentrations of contaminants. The objective studies are (i) to evaluate the land use at existing-condition; (ii) to monitor the water quality parameters; (iii) to assess the water quality index and water pollution index of the Brantas upstream water. In this study, Pearson correlation of BOD and COD  shown a very high positive correlations (r) of 0.8779. Meanwhile, high positive correlations were shown in TSS vs T-PO4 and T-NO3 vs T-PO4, whereas DO vs TDS, DO vs T-NO3, and DO vs T-PO4 have high negative correlations. Based on the four river water quality classifications in Indonesia, all stations shown the status of water pollution index at moderate level (Class I and II). Meanwhile, the water pollution index status of Class III were dominated by moderate level. In contrast, the status of water pollution index in Class IV was dominated by good level. Water pollution index in Category IV was relatively similar result to NSF-WQI status rather than other categories.Keyword: Brantas upstream watershed, land use, water pollution index, water quality parameters
