Abstract

Buddhism as religion which prioritizes human being is more open than otherreligions. In this paper, I examine how Buddhism relates to other religions which have theological concepts, even though Buddhism also has relation into social engagement. I also discuss how Buddhism as a way of life can philosophically encounters with other philosophical religions. Therefore, I view Buddhism as theology or philosophy and also as social in the same time. I will show that although Buddhism does not have concept of God, yet it can build interreligious relation with theistic religions. Therefore, socially engaged and interior dialogue (meditation) can be alternatives for Buddhists to do interreligious connection.

Abstract

Dalam artikel ini penulis, mencoba mengakselerasikan pemikiran hermeneutik Gadamer dengan studi agama-agama. Hermeneutik sebagai sebuah cara interpretasi dapat diterapkan dalam studi agama dengan menitikberatkan pada kitab suci masing-masing agama. Upaya interpretasi ala Gadamerian ini akan menampakkan hasil yang maksimal sesuai dengan sosio-kultural masing-masing agama dengan tanpa meninggalkan dan menanggalkan keyakinannya. Hal ini akan dapat memberikan nilai positif terhadap hubungan antar agama termasuk antara Islam dan Kristen. Oleh karena itu, upaya tersebut dapat dijadikan pedoman dalam kehidupan masyarakat modern yang sifatnya multikultural dan multireligius.

Abstract

The Department of Comparative Religion was established since 1961 as a center for the study of  various religions and to promote brotherhood, humanity, and tolerance in the midst of religious plurality. This department was present to answer the basic needs of this pluralistic nation. However, the Department of Comparative Religion is not attracted many “market” including by the stu- dents from schools in Yogyakarta. This study aims to assess the perception of high school students in Yog yakarta which may be the cause of  low interest in the study in this department. Data were collected by questionnaire (Summated Rating of  Likert) which was distributed to 9 schools in Yog yakarta, each school 10 students were taken as samples. Analysis of the data processed with SPSS version 16. The results showed that students’ perceptions of the Department of Comparative Religion is Good with size <62.50 -> 81.25; 63.3% of respondents was aware of this and looking at the Department of Compara- tive Religion as the department of interest, 74.4% stated studied at the Department will strengthen the commitment of Islam, 81.1% regard this department is ver y important for Indonesian as a pluralistic nation. Therefore, 77.8% of respondents stated that the Comparative Religion as the name of department should be maintained. The factors that cause them to have a certain perception of the Department are: 21% of respondents are influenced by friends, 12.2% of respondents by teachers/preachers/cleric, 12.2% by parents, and 42.2% by social media for no lectures on Comparative Religion. Causative factor they are not intending to study in the Comparative Religion is not be- cause the name of the Department, but because of the employment prospects; 46.6% of  respondents said the prospect of  the department’s graduate employment is narrow, and 55.6% regard it as not in accordance with their dream. Although 76.7% of the respondents saw the name of Comparative Religion does not lead to the emergence of  a negative perception, but 71.1% proposed to change the name the Department to reduce misunderstanding among wider community.

Abstract

Sumber daya manusia (SDM) merupakan unsur terpenting dalam organisasi. DuBrin dkk menjelaskan bahwa sumber daya organisasi dibedakan menjadi empat hal, yaitu: sumber daya finansial, fisik, teknologi dan manusia. Dari keempat sumber daya itu, SDM merupakan sumber daya terpenting karena SDM adalah pelaku sekaligus motor bagi kelangsungan proses organisasi yang meliputi empat sumber daya itu. Ini berarti keempat sumber daya itu tak akan mampu mewujudkan kemajuan dan kesuksesan organisasi jika tidak ada SDM yang mampu dan mau mengelolanya.

Abstract

This paper is divided into three sections. First, it gives a brief  introductory of the Jews. Second, it explains the process of  the creation of  human. Third, it elaborates the basis of  human behavior in the Jewish, like morality, suffering , and the ‘chosen people.’ In terms of  the creation of  human beings, Judaism states that human is made of the dust which is then fulfilled by the spirit through his nose. Human is created in God’s image. It is not only his soul, but also his body, represents the symbol of  God. The Hebrew Bible (Holy Book), in general, vastly embraces the doctrines of morality that should be used as the basis of  the behavior of  the Jews. This is particularly apparent from the teachings contained in the Ten Commandments. In addition, it also considers the chosen people as a liability, rather than an opportunity to obtain particular privileges; thus, they were elected to serve God and to undergo several sufferings in implementing the service.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has diversity of ethnicities and religions. The diversity makes Indonesia known as a multicultural nation. However, the plurality that is rooted in them does not always lead to good. It is West Kalimantan, one of some regions that has a bitter history because it has repeatedly experienced ethnic violence. This theme is important to be researched for conflict is part of the human civilization history. If the conflict can be managed well, it will make both territory and society being grown up. But when conflict comes to violence and even murder, it becomes a historical wound that is hard to wiped out. In this research the researcher concentrates on a riot between ethnic Malay and ethnic Madura in 1999. The riot is interesting to be discussed by the researcher bacause the both ethnicities have a same religious background, Islam; even in term of religious culture, it is not much different. This research is a field study using the theory of Bikhu Parekh  Multiculturalism. The problem statements in this reasearch are, first, what is the factor in the riot between ethnic Malay and Madura? Second, how are the implications toward socio-religious interaction between the both ethnicities nowadays? From the result of this research, it can be concluded that; First, it is an accumulation of ethnic Malay anger against ethnic Madura which for so long is viewed as often violates traditional and religious norms. Second, the riot becomes historical wound because it is implicated in sentiment and stereotypes between the two ethnic groups. According to the provident researcher, there should be some continuous efforts from the religious and traditional figures of both ethnics group as an endeavor to allay the sentiment and stereotypes in the society, in order to establish the harmony between ethnic Malay and ethnic Madura in Sambas and Singkawang. Keywords: Malay-Madura Riot, Social Interaction, and Multiculturalism.

Abstract

This paper discusses the models of developing the psycholog y stud- ies in Islamic muslim contemporary discourse. Here, mentioned that there are two ways in developing psychology studies in Islamic world. Firstly, based on the tradition of Islam itself, named turats, and sec- ondly, started from modernity (hadâtsah). Psychology studies that based on the turats usually called Islamic psycholog y developed from the Islamic knowledge such as Islamic philosophy and Sufism. While, psy- chology studies that started from modernity, called as the psychology of Islam, developed from the western psychology that fitted with the Islamic value. Between both of them, psychological studies that come from Islamic tradition have extra value. Here, to study psycholog y from the tradition of Islamic philosophy is a good way in developing psychology studies more comprehensive. Actually, the intensive dia- logue between the tradition of Islam and modern psychology studies will very helpful in finding the essence of Islamic psychology.

Abstract

Fenomena Buddha Theravada yang tidak berani menafsir ulang ajaran-ajaran Buddha sebenarnya telah melupakan aiaran Buddha. Buddha pernah berpesan bahwa jika ajaran-ajarannya pada suatu saat tidak lagi relevan dalam kehidupan masyarakat, maka Buddha pun menganjurkan agar pengikutnya segera meninggalkan ajaran-ajarannya tersebut, karena menurtnya dhamma juga bersifat konteksual.

Abstract

Kesalehan sosial umat beragama dapat diaktualisasikan dalam beragam cara.Salah satunya adalah dengan mendirikan lembaga yang concern dan peduliterhadap komunitas marjinal seperti difabel. Lembaga berbasis agama yangpeduli dan melakukan pemberdayaan terhadap komunitas difabel, yaituYayasan Kesejahteraan Tunanetra Islam (Yaketunis) dan Pusat RehabilitasiYayasan Kristen Untuk Kesejahteraan Umum (Yakkum).Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan historis dansosiologis. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi,wawancara, dan dokumentasi.Adapun hasil penelitian ini adalah: (1) Pendirian Yaketunis dan Yakkumsama-sama dilatarbelakangi oleh kepedulian terhadap kaum difabel. (2)Beberapa bentuk pemberdayaan dan pelayanan yang dilakukan Yaketunisdan Yakkum seperti: pendidikan, keagamaan, fisioterapi, klinik, pemberianalat bantu, psikososial, kursus ketrampilan, dan rehabilitasi berbasismasyarakat. (3) Yaketunis dan Yakkum sama-sama memiliki kepedulianterhadap kaum difabel. Sedangkan perbedaan antara kedua yayasan tersebutdi antaranya: (a) Yaketunis lebih banyak memberdayakan difabel netra sajasedangkan Yakkum memberdayakan beragam difabel; (b) Yaketunis hanyamemberdayakan difabel yang beragama Islam saja sedangkan Pusat RehabilitasiYakkum memberdayakan difabel dari semua kalangan; (c) Pemberdayaan yangdilakukan Yaketunis lebih fokus pada bidang pendidikan dan keagamaansedangkan Pusat Rehabilitasi Yakkum mencakup banyak aspek dan lebihberagam; (d) Yaketunis memiliki jaringan dan sumber pendanaan yang agakterbatas sedangkan Pusat Rehabilitasi Yakkkum memiliki jaringan yang lebihluas dan memiliki sumber pendanaan yang lebih banyak.
