Abstract

An investigation on the correlation between the depth of sediment in Benoa estuary and the concentration ofPb and Cu. Statistically, the sample collecting location and the sediment depth influenced the concentration of lead(Pb) and copper (Cu) significantly. The variation resources of interaction between sample collecting location and thesediment depth also showed a great influence. In general, the deeper the sediments, the lower the concentration of Pband Cu are. The average concentrations of heavy metals found in surface layer (0 cm) were 15.52 mg/kg of Pb and35.85 mg/kg of Cu. Sediment in the depth of 10 cm contained 13.49 mg/kg of Pb and 33.69 mg/kg of Cu, while thesediment in the depth of 20 cm contained 11.51 mg/kg of Pb and 32.22 mg/kg of Cu.

Abstract

The influence of Vernonia cinerea Less. on spermatogenesis of rat has been investigated. This research washeld into two steps. The first activity was isolation and purification of the herb of. V. cinerea Less.. The purity ofisolate was showed by the appearance of only one spot on chromatogram and its physical characteristic. The secondstep was identification the spermatogenesis using three groups of rat for 49 days namely i.e. normal group that wasadministered by normal saline, group I that is administered by 0.05 mg/g body weight of V. cinerea Less. isolate i.p.,and group II that was administered by 0.025 mg/g B.W of V. cinerea Less. isolate i.p. Histological preparat withPAS- Hematoxylin dyeing was used in tubulus seminiferus observation. The result showed the cocci form of tubulusseminiferus and basalis membrane appearance. This concluded that the isolate of V. cinerea Less. herbs influencedthe spermatogenesis of rat.

Abstract

Isolation and identification of flavonoid compounds from skin of Bungur (Lagerstroemia speciosa Pers.)have been conducted. Isolation was carried out by maceration and partition, to obtain n-hexane, ethyl-acetate, and nbutanolextracts. Concentrated n-butanol extract was purified using thin layer chromatography and columnchromatography.Isolate F2.6 from n-butanol extract contains flavonoid compounds. Uilta Violete - Visible spectra showedthat the flavonoid compounds were flavanon or dihidroflavanol, with characteristic wavelengths from 275 to 295 nmfor Band II and 350 to 400 nm for Band I. Shifting reagents added indicated no hydroxyl group at C-3 and C-5,hydroxyl group at C-7, no ortho-dihydroxyl group at ring A,B, or C, and O-glycoside at C-7. Infrared spectraindicated characteristic functional groups of O-H bonded, CH alifatic, C=O, C=C aromatic, C-O, and CH aromatic. The flavonoid compounds indicated was flavanon group, which has functional groups of O-H bonded, CHalifatic, C=O, C=C aromatic, C-O, and CH aromatic, and hydroxyl group at C-7. It does not have ortho-dihydroxylgroup at ring A,B, or C, but has O-glycoside at C-7.

Abstract

Honey is composed of reducing sugars i.e. glucose, fructose, and maltose. The concentration of sugar honeyis determined as total reducing sugars, so the concentration of each sugar which compose the honey is not known. The research aims to determine the concentrations of glucose and fructose of honey from different cotton tree honeyand longan honey HPLC using. The HPLC operational condition was as follows 80oC of column temperature and 1 mL/minutes of flowrate, using metacarb 87C column and deionized watr as eluent. The detection was carried out by using refractiveindex detector, where glucose and fructose can be separated at retention times of 6 and 7 minutes. The result of research showed that the concentration of glucose in cotton tree honey was 27.13 % and inlongan honey was 28.09 %. the concentration of fructose in cotton tree honey was 40.99 % and in longan honey was40.03 %. Thees results showed that the quality standard on the total concentration of reducing sugar (60 %) was metby both types of honey. The total concentration of reducing sugar of cotton tree honey was 68.12 % and of longanhoney was 68.12 %.

Abstract

This paper discusses the development of stripping potentiometric methods for reliable determination of Cu,Pb, Cd, and Zn in natural water. The electrode systems used were the conventional and combined ones. Theformation of intermetallic compound between Cu and Zn was overcame with the addition of gallium ions. Themethod involved two stripping cycles during which copper was initially determined on its own, followed bysimultaneous determination of Pb, Cd and Zn after addition of 150 mg/L gallium ions. The optimum conditions forreliable determination of the metals with the use of the conventional electrode were 0.01 M HCl, 10 mg/L Hg (II), adeposition potential of -1200 mV and a deposition time of 30 seconds, while those with the use of the combinedelectrode included 0.01 M HCl, 10 mg/L Hg (II), a deposition potential of -700 mV for Cu and -1300 mV for theother three metals and a deposition time of 10 seconds. It was also found that the use of the combined electrode gavelower detection limit and wider linear concentration range for the four metals.

Abstract

The research on the isolation of Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) from seed husk of cashew nut by solidliquidextraction has been carried out. The extraction used mixture of chlorofom-ethanol (3:1, 1:1, 1:3) and hexaneethanol(3:1, 1:1, 1:3). The extract was analysed for its phisico-chemical properties namely density, viscosity, acidity, and iod number. The extract with highest rendement was analysed by GC-MS (gas cromatography-massspectrometry) and infrared (IR) spectrophotometer to prove that anacardic was the mayor component of CNSL.The highest rendement (44.38 %) was resulted from the extraction using 3:1 hexane-ethanol. The extract hasa density of 0.9352 g/mL, a viscosity of 8.98 pise, acid of 96.94 mg NaOH/g CNSL, and 86.98 g iod/100g CNSL.The GC-MS and IR analyses showed that the major component of CNSL was anacardic acid.
