Abstract

Syndromic surveillance is surveillance methods which has the potential to detect diseasesoutbreak in the early stages. The systems used existing data of disease syndromes whichgenerally appear at the beginning of infection to provide immediate analysis. Additionally, the method may identify the disease outbreak earlier than the conventional surveillancewhich commonly requires a longer time to determine the cause of the outbreaks. Althoughmany experts believe that syndromic surveillance is a good method for early detection ofdisease outbreak, some of them also believe that this system has several drawbacks

Abstract

Duck is one of the potential egg poultry production in Indonesia. General farming systemof duck was carried out an intensive and semi-intensive. The effect of difference farmingsystem may be contribute to differences in the duck’s egg quality, especially in relation toaspects of Egg White Index (EWI), Egg Yolk Index (EYI) and Haugh Unit (HU) of duck’segg, as well as to the long storage at room temperature (±28°C). The research usedCompletely Randomized Design (CRD), the pattern of 2 (farming system) x 4 (0,7,14 and21 day) two factor treatments farming system as intensive farming and semi-intensive andfour factor that is a long storage at room temperature. Each treatment combination wasreplicated 4 times. Data were analyzed with ANOVA, and followed by Duncan multiplerange test. Based on these results it can be concluded, farming system intensive and semiintensiveto produce duck’s egg quality with EWI, EYI and HU are not significantlydifferent (P>0.05). EWI, EYI and HU were significantly (P <0.01) influenced by longstorage; if the longer stored, the duck’s egg quality to be decreased.

Abstract

A study to observed the profile of erythrocytes of bali cattle was conducted from 2000 to2007 years at Veterinary Physiology Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UdayanaUniversity. The aim of this observation were to study and evaluated erythrocytes andcomplete the data. A total of samples is one hundred ninety-two blood samples were takenfrom bali cattle were slaughtered at the abattoir of Sanggaran Denpasar. The parametersobserved were the number erythrocytes (Hemocytometer Method), hemoglobineconsentration,(Sahli method) PCV, MCV (fl), MCH (pg), and MCHC (%/dl) usingMicrohematocrite method. Results of this observation showed that there ware totalerythrocytes 5,2 million/mm3, hemoglobine consentration 8,7 gr%, PCV 27,2 %, MCV56.2 fl, MCH 16.7 pg, and MCHC 29.8 %/dl.

Abstract

A study was conducted Toxoplasma gondii isolate from the brain and the heart of freerangechickens in Bali. The aim of this study to determine the seroprevalence andto isolate Toxoplasma gondii from free-range chicken heart and brain. To achieve of thisstudy observed 311 free-range chicken serum samples with ELISA method and examined225 free-range chicken brain and heart used digestion method. All of the samples takenfrom 9 districts in Bali. The results showed that the seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondiiinfreerange chicken has 91.64%. Isolation of Toxoplasma godii from the heart and the brainfreerange chicken found the cyst on inoculate heart and brain, but by bioassay in mice for4 weeks observation failed to find tachyzoite form in peritonial exudat

Abstract

The Research was conducted to determine the contribution Strongyloides ransomi againstdiarrhea in piglets on pig farms inBali. The number of sample 501 piglets feces fromBadung, Tabanan and Gianyar. The examination of worm eggs with Sodium AceticFoemaldehid method (SAF). The data obtained were analyzed statistically with Fischer test/ Chi Qwadrat Test. The results was obtained the prevalence of Strongyloides ransomi in piglets of 7.4%. Theresults was found a significant relationship between infection Strongyloides ransomi withdiarrhea, where the infected piglets Strongyloides ransomi higher risk ( OR=6 ) than ofpiglets uninfected.

Abstract

main problem in controlling and handling the disease is that only few antibiotics areavailable to cure the disease. In addition, the prolonged use of such antibiotics often leadsto a bacterial resistant against the antibiotics. Herbal drugs such as Centella asiatica (inIndonesia is known as pegagan) contains triterphenoids saphonin which acts asimmunostimulant capable of enhancing the phagocytic activity of macrophages. However,no study has been conducted to investigate the use pegagan in capacity of macrophage ofmice infected with Salmonella typhi. A study was therefore conducted to find out the abilityof Centella asiatica in enhancing phagocytic capacity of macrophages toSalmonella typhi.Experimental laboratory studies were conducted using Completely Randomized Design.Mice were divided into 4 groups and they were treated respectively with destilated water(negative control), 125, 250, dan 500 mg/kg bw of Centella asiaticaextract. The treatmentwas conducted daily for 2 weeks and the mice were then inoculated with 105 cells/ml of S.typhi. The capacity of macrophages were examined 24 hours following inoculation with S.typhi. The result showed that treatment of mice withCentella asiatica extract significantly(p<0,05) enhanced capacity of macrophages in phagocyting S. thypi. The highest capacityof macrophages were observed in mice treated Centella asiatica extract at the dose of 500mg/kg bw with the capacity of 209,12±26,17 cells per 50 macrophage.
