Abstract

Throw-in is one of the basic techniques in football which aims to start thegame again after the ball out of left field through the side lines. To generate a throw-in that muchneeded donations abdominal and back muscle strength followed by hand muscles strength. Methods:This study uses a true experiment, the design of two group pre-test and post-test design. Samples are32 people were divided into two groups consisting of Group 1 get treatment core exercise and group 2without treatment. Results: Paired Sample T test in Group 1 showed P = 0.000 difference in the meanincrease of 2,79 meters and the percentage is 21,24%, while Group 2 showed P=0,000 difference inmean improvement of 0,70 meters and the percentage is 5,34%. On different with IndependentSample T test, showing the result P=0,000, because of p value <0,05, it means there is a significantdifference between the core exercise’s group (first group) and second group. In increasing the rangeof throw-in. Conclusion: The aplication of core core exercise can give a significant difference forimproving the value range of throw-in rather than without getting a treatment.

Abstract

Use of school bags with too much load will cause a variety of musculoskeletal problems such as low back pain. This study aims to determine the relation of bag weight with low back pain in student. Method: This is a cross-sectional study were conducted in May-June 2014. Selected sample in SDN 5 Panjer and SMPN 1 Denpasar using simple random sampling technique which were 123 students of class 6,7, and 8 randomized using a lottery number and obtained 62 samples. Results: Research subjects were aged 12 and 13 years old as much as 37.1%. Thirty-nine girls and 23 boys with an average body mass index category most were underweight as much as 43.5%. Students were carry school bags most severe category of bags are on ?15% of body weight as much as 46.8%. Low back pain experienced by most students who was bring a bag with the category of 6-13kg as much as 38.7%. Based on chi square test was get values of p = 0.001(p<0.05). Conclusion: That means there is a significant association between bag weight with back pain among elementary and junior high school student in SD Negeri 5 Panjer and SMP Negeri 1 Denpasar.

Abstract

Daily activities that involve excessive work of the upper extremity can cause problems to the lateral humeral epycondylus known as tennis elbow. The purpose of this research was to compare the combination of mill’s manipulation and ultrasound with combination of transverse friction and ultrasound to reduce pain in tennis elbow type II. This research used an experimental research with Pre and Post Test Two Group Design. Samples were divided into two treatment groups, which are mill’s manipulation and ultrasound group that consists of 10 samples and transverse friction and ultrasound group that consists of 10 samples. The measured data is VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) before and after the intervention. The result of this research is, Group 1 occurring on average decrease with p=0.000 (p>0.05), while on Group 2 occurring on average decrease with p=0.000 (p>0.05), once compared Group 1 and Group 2 p=0.697 (p>0.05), meaning that there was no significant difference in the decrease in VAS score between the two groups. From this research it can be concluded that the combination of mill’s manipulation and ultrasound showed no significant result as combination of transverse friction and ultrasound to reduce pain in tennis elbow type II.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relation of Body Mass Index (BMI) and sport activities with lumbar flexibility of Students in Medical Faculty Udayana University. This research is a cross-sectional study conducted in May 2014 where the population of this study was students in Medical Faculty Udayana University second semester to eight semester which has fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The simple random sampling technique is used to select a sample of college students and obtained 62 samples. The results showed that 62 students aged 18-23 years found 12 people with overweight have limited lumbar flexibility and 16 people student obese, have limited lumbar flexibility. Out of 62 students found 33 people with sports activities lacked have limited lumbar flexibility, and 19 students with good sports activities have good lumbar flexibility. Based on the chi-square test p value = 0.027 (p <0.05), which means there is a significant association between BMI on lumbar flexibility. Then, based on chi-square test showed p = 0.000 (p <0.05), which means there is a significant association between the activity of exercise on lumbar flexibility.

Abstract

Myofascial pain syndrome is a musculoskeletal disorder characterized by presence of trigger points in tautband of skeletal muscle. Myofascial pain syndrome causes decrease in daily activities such as difficulty in moving the neck. The objective of this study was to compare the combination of strain counterstrain and infrared with combination of contract relax stretching and infrared to reduce pain in the myofascial pain syndrome of trapezius muscle. This research was an experimental study with pre and post test control group design. Total sample is 22 subject were divided into two groups. The first group was given strain counterstrain and infrared intervention, while the second group was given contract relax stretching and infrared intervention. Pain was measured by VAS (visual analogue scale). This research was found that mean difference of VAS before and after intervention in each group were tested with paired sample t-test and the result obtained p = 0.000 with mean 2.309±0.996 for the first group and p = 0.000 with mean 2,118±0,855 for the second group. The result means that in each group were significantly decreased pain. From the Independent sample t-test obtained by the difference of first group with second group is p=0.635 where p>0.05. From these results it can be concluded that the combination of strain counterstrain and infrared showed no significant difference as combination of contract relax stretching and infrared to reduce pain in myofascial pain syndrome upper trapezius.

Abstract

Muscle power is a component of fitness that is needed by a football player. The purpose of this research was to compare the plyometric exercise single leg speed hop and double leg speed hop to increase the power of leg muscles. This research used an experimental research with Pre and Post Test Two Group Design. Samples were divided into two treatment groups, which are single leg speed hop group that consists of 12 samples and double leg speed hop group that consists of 12 samples. The exercise was carried out for four weeks with a frequency of three times in one week, from May up to June 2014 at Niti Mandala Renon field Denpasar which use standing long jump test instrument to measure the power of leg muscles. The result of this research is, Group 1 occurring on average an increase with p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), while on Group 2 occurring on average an increase with p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), once compared Group 1 and Group 2 p=0.002 (p<0.05), meaning that there was a significant increase of muscle power in each group, however Group 1 is more effective than Group 2. From this research it can be concluded that single leg speed hop is more effective to increases the power of leg muscles compared with double leg speed hop.

Abstract

Passive Range Of Motion (PROM) is given to elderly to prevent complications that occur in the long immobilization conditions. The aimed of this study is there any improvement response of blood pressure after giving PROM for thirty minutes and how much is the improvement. This research is an experimental study with the method of one-group pretest-posttest design, with 10 peoples sample, the elderly (> 60 years), without having a chronic illness. Elderly who difable don’t be included in this study. The sampling technique used is the saturated sampling. This study was conducted over three days, each day was measured before treatment and after treatment to see the response of blood pressure increase caused by PROM thirty minutes of training in the elderly. Data were analyzed using SPSS computer software that is shapiro wilk test to test of normality distribution and paired t-test or the wilcoxon signed rank test. The result of wilcoxon sign rank test on the first day, systolic p = 0.005 (p <0.05) and diastolic p = 0.005 (p <0.05) seen here there is a significant difference. The results of paired t-test test to see the difference in the response of blood pressure in systole and diastole second day and third day, on the second day systolic p = 0.005 (p <0.05); diastole p = 0.012 (p <0.05); on the third day systole p = 0.0001 (p <0.05); and on the third day of diastole p = 0.015 (p <0.05), it seemed that there were significant differences in systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the second and third days. The conclusion of this study is the response of blood pressure after PROM exercise is 5 – 8 mm Hg for systolic, and 3 – 4 mm Hg for diastolic.

Abstract

The research was aimed to compare the combination of ischemic compression technique and cryotherapy with contract relax stretching in decreasing pain of myofascial pain syndrome in upper trapezius muscle. This research was an experimental study with Randomized Pre and Post Test Group Design. Samples were divided into 2 treatment group that consist 10 samples for each. The first group treated with combination of ischemic compression technique with cryotherapy while the second one was treated with contract relaxes stretching. The results showed there was significant effect of each treatment to decrease pain p = 0.0001 ( p < 0.05 ). The results of independent t test showed p=0,598 (p > 0,05), so that there was no significant difference from decreased pain group 1 (combination of ischemic compression technique with cryotherapy) and group 2 (contract relax stretching). The first group mean’s was 2.650±1.051 whereas the second group mean’s was 3.120±1.091. In conclusion, the combination of ischemic compression technique with cryotherapy is as effective as contract relax stretching for decreasing pain of myofascial pain syndrome in upper trapezius at Department of Physical Therapy’s students of Udayana University

Abstract

Age-related changes characterized by decrease of body function including the weakness of musculoskeletal system at lower extremities and disturbances of sensory system which affect human balance. The aim of this study was to investigate the combined effects of resistance exercise and stretching on static balance improvement among elderly. Experimental research has been performed with the design of pre-test and post-test group design. Samples were randomly assigned to an experimental (n=12) or control group (n=12). The experimental group performed stretching and resistance exercises, and the control group performed stretching exercises only. Static balance was measured before and after the 4-week intervention, the participants’ experimental and control group were evaluated using the One-Legged Stance Test (OLST). The result obtained p=0,000 (p<0,05) for experimental group with mean 5.58 ?1,50 and p=0,000 for control group with mean 4.00 ?1.47. The result means that in each group were significantly improved static balance. From the independent t-test obtained p=0,007 (p<0,05). It can be concluded that the combination of resistance exercise and stretching more effective to improve static balance compare with stretching.
