Abstract

The use of ferns as orchid growing media feel expensive, so it is necessary to find an alternative media as a media surrogate fern that has been used. This study aimed to explore alternative growing media and fertilizer is good for growth and development of dendrobium orchids. Selection of a good planting medium and the proper use of fertilizers can be expected to support healthy plant growth and quality of orchids. experiments were conducted at Greenhouse Faculty of Agriculture Lampung University. The experiment was conducted using a randomized design perfectly with the treatment group factorial (6x2). The first factor is the type of growing medium consists of wood charcoal (M1), fern (M2), husk + sawdust (M3), acacia bark (M4), cocochip (M5) and coconut bark (M6). The second factor is the type of foliar fertilizer consists of Gandasil (P1) and Hyponex (P2). Data were analyzed by analysis of variance followed by HSD test at 5% level. The results showed that the use of media orchids ferns produce good vegetative growth, no different to use of planting medium charcoal, charcoal husk + sawdust, bark and bark acacia tree coconut, but it is different than the use of cocochip shown in variable plant height, number of leaves , leaf length and leaf width. Abstract

The effort to increase productivity of coffee plants in long dry season upland of Ultisol include application of Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhizae (VAM) on coffee plants, because its application only one time and its affect along a life time of coffee plant in the field. This study aims to determine the exact time and applications method of VAM on growth coffee seedlings. This study used 10 g VAM/polybag or 800 spores as basic treatment. This study used randomized block design and experiment arranged in factorial 3 x 5 with three replications. The first factor was the time of VAM application: given at nursery seedlings (W1), given at transplanting (W2), and combine of given at nursery seedlings and transplanting (W3). The second factor was the applications method of VAM: without VAM inoculant (C0), VAM inoculant placed around the coffee seedling root up to a depth of 2 cm below root (C1), up to a depth of 4cm below root (C2), up to a depth of 6 cm below root (C3), and VAM inoculant mixed with media planting (C4). All data were analyzed for variance. Data analysis followed by separation of means using LSD test with significance level of 5%. The resulted showed that both time and applications method of VAM have affect on growth component and root infection rate. The best application time was double application, i.e. combine of given at nursery seedlings and transplanting, and the best applications method was VAM inoculant placed around the coffee seedling root up to a depth of 2 cm below root, both of them increased plant height, stem diameter, leaf amount, long of root, and root infection rate.

Abstract

Broiler farming always use feed additives commercial to improve productivity of broiler, but feed additives commercial have negative effect for consument. Feed additive should have ability as an antibacterial. To minimize using commercial feed additive we have to find alternatives to optimize the use of roselle calyces. This experiment was conducted to knowing phenol content and antibacterial activity of red roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) calyces and purple roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) calyces and to determine the type of roselle calyces which have potential as feed additive candidate on broiler. The phenol content was conducted using visible spectrophotometry method with Folin Ciocalteau reagen, and the antibacterial activity using agar well method for measuring clearing zone againt Staphylocccus aureus and Escherichia coli. The results showed that difference in solvent temperature (300C, 600C and 900C) of red and purple roselle calyces didn?t affect the phenol content, but the extract 10% of purple roselle calyces containing phenol content higher than the extract of red roselle calyces. The difference of solvent temperature didn?t affect the antibacterial activity, but extracts 10% of purple roselle calyces have antibacterial activity higher than red roselle calyces. Purple roselle calyces more potencial as feed additive. Keywords : Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) calyces, phenol content, antibacterial activity

Abstract

Until the current level of dependence on agricultural products in DKI-Jakarta from other areas increasing, estimated level of vegetable consumption / capita in urban -9.8 1.1% higher if compared to rural areas. Increased production and plant health conducted with crop rotation, intercropping, planting the right varieties, biological pest control. One of the environmentally-friendly technologies that can be used to improve the quantity and quality of the horticultural farming is very suitable for the conditions in Jakarta are the organic farming. The purpose of the study, assessing alternative technology packages organic farming leaf vegetable crops in the dry season, conducted from May to December 2008. This assessment activities carried out in Rawasari, Jakarta-Central, involving 6 farmer cooperators. As the indicator is a mustard plant. The design used was a randomized block design with 6 replications and 4 were tested technology package include: a) BPTP fertilizer (from urban waste)+Pest control with Nemasal (botanical pesticides), b) Fertilizer Dharmajaya (from beef cattle waste)+Pest control with sweeping (sweep with cloth), c) Fertilizer Pegadungan (from enceng gondok+stater)+Pest control with sweeping and d) Farmers fertilizer (chicken manure+Urea)+control OPT with Curacron/decis. The results of study of organic technology package on leaf vegetable crops (mustard) in DKI-Jakarta showed that, using fertilizer Dharmajaya (waste from the abattoir) with sweeping OPT can increase the growth and yield of mustard plants, equivalent if using fertilizer formulations BPTP (waste from urban waste + enrichmen). With the use of packet 1, it gives the highest profit, ie the B / C ratio: 3.8. While the B / C ratio is the lowest obtained in the use of packet 3, the gain B / C ratio is less than 1. It shows that, organic farming technologies provide considerable opportunities high in leaf vegetable farming, especially in the mustard plant in the dry season. Abstract

The research objective was to get the starter type and the fermentation time to produce soygurt that have a high peptide bioactive that functions as an antimicrobial. The study was conducted in a complete randomized block design with two replicates. The first factor is the starter types, which consists of 3 levels, 2 market starter (cimory and king yogurt) and 1 mixed starter. The second factor is the fermentation times, which consists of 3 levels, 9 hours, 12 hours, and 15 hours. The data obtained were analyzed by analysis of variance to get various error estimators and tests of significance by Duncan's test further to determine whether there is a difference between treatments. Two market starter (cimory and king yogurt) and 1 mixed starter did not produce peptide bioactive compounds . It is suspected microbes contained in the market starter cimory (S.thermophilus and L.delbrueckii ssp . Bulgaricus ), the market starter king yogurt (L.bulgaricus) and mixed starter (S.thermophilus and L.bulgaricus) did not produce peptide bioactive compounds. The inhibition effect of the test bacteria (E. coli and S. aureus) occurs due to the production of lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide during the fermentation process . The greatest inhibition shown by soygurt of the market starter cimory with a reduced number of cells in both types of test bacteria (E. coli and S. aureus) at 6 and 5 log cycles . Mixed starter has the lowest pH and the highest total acid than the marker starter cimory and king yoghurt. The starter types and the fermentation times were no significant effect on total dissolved solids of soygurt. The levels protein of soygurt, respectively 1.38 %, 1.48 %, and 1.68 (cimory, king yogurt, and mixed starter), while the fat content of soygurt 1.04%, 1.28 %, and 1.58% (cimory, mixed starter, king yoghurt) Keyword: soygurt, peptide bioactive, antimicrobe
