Abstract

Anemia suffered by patients with kidney failures can be prevented with erythropoietin administration (EPO). The chronic kidney disease (CKD) is the global epidemic with an estimated prevalence of 14% in the United States of America and 5% in the world. This research analyzes the influential factors of anemia via erythropoietin administration (EPO) for kidney failure patients who also receive hemodialysis in Sultan Agung Islamic hospital, Semarang. This research used analytical observation with Cross Sectional design. The population and sample were from 162 participants (total sampling). The statistical results with path analysis showed the direct influences with significant value on erythropoietin, comorbid, creatine, and ureum. The result showed insignificant results on family support, obedience levels, and cognition levels. The result found indirect and significant influences on family support, levels of obedience, levels of cognition. The insignificant values were on the comorbid, creatine, and ureum. The results showed the influential matters for the patients with anemia and chronic kidney failures that received hemodialysis were creatine with p=0.000, family support with p=0.00, levels of obedience with p=0.000, and levels of cognition with p=0.000.

Abstract

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are one of Indonesia's biodiversity which can be beneficial for food and health purposes. Some of LAB are potential probiotics with specific functional properties, such as antidiabetes. This study evaluated the effect of ethanol extracts of twelve indigenous LAB in inhibiting α-glucosidase enzyme and their antioxidant activities. Assay for the α-glucosidase inhibition was performed on LAB ethanol extract using spectrophotometric method at λ=410 nm, while the antioxidant activity was measured using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method at λ=517 nm. The results showed that α-glucosidase inhibition was significantly different between the isolates (P<0.01). Lactobacillus fermentum S21209 had the highest α-glucosidase inhibition activity, which was significantly different from Lactobacillus plantarum MB427, Lactobacillus plantarum Pi28a, Lactobacillus delbrueckii W24802 and Lactobacillus plantarum 2 W22409. Evaluation of the antioxidant activity also showed significant difference between the isolates (P<0.01). Lactobacillus plantarum BSL had the highest antioxidant activity (92.81±1.36%), which was not significantly different from vitamin C as a control. This preliminary study reported that twelve indigenous LAB could be used as potential antidiabetic probiotics, although the responsible compounds are not known.

Abstract

The TB case notification rate (CNR) in Semarang City has decreased from 2019 of 258 per 100,000 population to 155 per 100,000 population in 2020. The main focus in controlling tuberculosis cases is case detection in the community. The purpose was to increase TB knowledge and provide training on TB screening methods to adolescent cadres using the SIKRIBO application. The methods used in this community service are health education and Training of Trainers (ToT). The participants were 27 adolescent representatives from the Adolescent Integrated Healthcare Center working areas of the Sekaran Public Health Center, Semarang City. The results showed that adolescent cadres' average score knowledge about tuberculosis disease and screening improves after receiving TB health education and adolescent cadres can operate the application properly. The SIKRIBO application can be a means to facilitate the discovery of TB suspects in the community and is expected to be applied in various health facilities.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic that has been going on since March 2020 has spread rapidly, with high mortality In Indonesia. Central Java, Covid-19 remains a disease with a Case Fatality Rate (CFR) of 4.4% and is above Indonesia’s CFR of 3.0%. In Magelang itself,  positive cases of Covid-19 in 2020 reached 4418 and were among the top 3 cases in Central Java Province. This study’s purpose was to spatially describe the distribution of new cases of Covid-19 in terms of population density and elevation of the sub-district area in Magelang. The type of research is descriptive quantitative with ecological studies using a spatial approach. The results showed that the distribution of new cases of Covid-19 has a unique pattern in mapping based on population density and altitude. Some of the new distribution cases showed a distribution pattern following the regional elevation and almost entirely following the pattern of population density. The increase of Covid-19 tends to be higher in areas with high-density populations and low-altitude regions. This study concludes that the distribution pattern of new Covid-19 cases is influenced by population density and the area’s height during the peak period of new Covid-19 cases in 2020 at Magelang.
