Abstract

This research is a continuation of the Kampung Jerman simulation research. Kampung Jerman is a massive role-playing simulation, in which there are various places and situations from various professions and themes of daily life that students can play to practice their spontaneous speaking skills in German language. The purpose of this research is to find a supporting game that can add a fun aspect to the Kampung Jerman simulation. It is intended to create a more comfortable condition to reduce the pressure on students during speaking practice. In addition, the use of Indonesian folk games is expected to give the participants a familiar impression and there is no need for complicated explanations on how to play them. Data were collected through questionnaires given to students representing various levels of language ability. The analytical method used is descriptive-qualitative based on the results of the questionnaire. The results of the analysis show that the six new games have a very high pleasant aspect and have a positive effect on the German language skills of beginners. The number of points given by respondents is almost perfect. There were no negative responses to any of the questionnaire statements. In addition, it is assumed that the game can increase respondents' interest in practicing their German language. From their selection of games, it appears that they think games that use more vocabulary and sentence formation are the best way to complete the Kampung Jerman simulation than games that only emphasize the physical aspect.

Abstract

A cursory reading of the novel Bidadari Bermata Bening will give the impression that this novel voices the idea of empowered women. However, it turns out that there is also a strong narrative of stereotypical women in the text. Based on the explanation, this study aims to reveal why there are two such contradictory narratives in one text. This study uses an analysis of the narrative elements of the text based on Gerard Genette's theory, assisted by the theory of the power of discourse from Michel Foucault. The text is explored intrinsically, through analysis of characterizations, narrator's voice, and character’s focalization. Then by using discourse analysis, the text is analyzed to find out which discourses play in it and build ideological ideas. Based on the results of the analysis, it appears that the narrative of empowered women emerges through an omniscient narrator and is assisted by voices (focalization) from subordinate characters. Meanwhile, the narrative of stereotypical women emerges from the subjectivity of the women main character. Behind the contradictions of the two narratives, it appears that the discourse of Islamic values actually dominates the construction of ideas, both narratives of empowered women and stereotypical women. The text legitimizes both narratives by using religious arguments, in this case Islam. This can be interpreted as a text effort in propagating the discourse of Islamic women.

Abstract

The use of the terminology of Islam Literature and Islamic Literature by literary academics and readers in Indonesia is still confusing. It is inseparable from the development of Islam in Indonesia after the New Order. At that time, publishers had a unilateral claim that their work was the work of Islam literature or Islamic literature. Based on that, this study aims to find the definition and characteristics of the terminology of Islam Literature and Islamic Literature. This study uses the dialectical method, which is a method that contrasts several different views on a problem, in this case, the definition of Islam Literature and Islamic Literature. To collect data, this study uses a literature study of experts' opinions, literary observers, data on literary works, and the development of Indonesian literature. The results of the discussion show that Islam literature refers to all literary works that are strictly based on the text of the holy book and hadith; while Islamic literature can be more fluid than Islamic literature, it does not have to be based on scriptures and hadith, but the values contained in it must be still based on Islamic teachings.

Abstract

Abstract

This study discusses the dominance of the power on the existence of crossplayer in the private-public space of cyberspace. The subjects of this study were four respondents consisting of 2 female to male (F2M) crossplayers and 2 male to female (M2F) crossplayers. This study uses a critical discourse analysis approach to reveal cultural phenomena using Sartre's concept of Being and Foucault's concept of the power of discourse. The results of this study indicate that crossplay in Indonesia is not an easy thing to do. The rejection from the community is quite large because of the negative stigma for cross-dressed people. Crossplay actors have to disguise their identities on social media and operate clandestinely, as a form of their negotiation against the power of the majority discourse who rejects their existence. They also form a community so that they still have a place to actualize their hobby. The creation of a community is also a protective area for various crossplay activities from the power of the majority discourse. Their activities on social media are still carried out in these conditioned public spaces, because the followers are people who like Japanese culture who support crossplay discourse.

Abstract

Discussions about Islamic women have been buzzing in Indonesia after the collapse of the New Order. Its presence directly contradicts the narratives of women that were influenced by western thought, such as liberalism and secularism, as well as by global islamization movement from the Middle East. The conflicts that arose were about the role of women in the public sphere, women's independence, women's bodies and sexuality. This study aims to find similarities between ideas about Islamic women and the practice of Islamic women's discourse in Indonesian society. This study uses an intrinsic study method and a sociology of literature approach to reveal the relationship of the text to social conditions in society. The result shows that the depiction of Islamic women in the four texts is the same as the practice of Islamic women's discourse that existed in Islamic societies even before Indonesia's independence. It is considered as a writing-back movement by Habiburrahman El Shirazy to propagate the majority version of Islamic values in Indonesia.

Abstract

After the collapse of the New Order, the debate on the discourse of Islamic women developed rapidly in various directions due to the influence of ideas from both the East and the West. Islamic thinkers from within the country are being challenged by the massive influence of global Islamism and the entry of modern western culture. This very complicated battle caused each faction of thought to have to find a way to speak up and propagate their discourse in the public sphere. The most appropriate tool to spread ideology in the midst of the development of society and technology is through popular culture. It can be seen that since the collapse of the New Order, each faction of thought propagated their version of discourse through literary works, magazines, films, entertainment programs on television, social media, to everyday commercial products through their advertisements and taglines. Most of the issues they dispute relate to the role of Islamic women, women's relationships with Muslim men, daily practices as Islamic women, and the image of Islamic women, such as the use of the hijab, clothing and accessories. The results of the research then show that although there are many outside thoughts that enter Indonesian society, the discourse of Islamic women in the traditional-moderate version of Islam as a thought that has long existed in Indonesia is still the majority discourse in society.
