Abstract

Cultivation of forages from graminae and legumes is an alternative source of fiber feed to meet basic living needs and ruminant livestock production. This research aims to assess the nutritional and WSC content of various forages as indicators and considerations in making silage. The research used a completely randomized design with 5 treatments with 4 replications. Regarding the treatment of forage types, namely A = elephant grass; B = Gama Umami; C= Mexican Grass; D= Odot grass; D = Indigofera beans. The research parameters are crude protein (%), crude fat (%), dry matter (%), ash, crude fiber (%), water-soluble carbohydrates (%), and NDF and ADF content (%). The results showed that different types of forage had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the nutritional value and WSC content. The research conclusion was that Indigofera legumes and odot grass had the highest WSC content, namely 4.59% and 4.49%. Furthermore, indigofera legumes and odot grass also produce the lowest NDF and ADF values compared to other treatments, so they have the potential to be used as raw materials for making silage to support the availability of ruminant feed

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of the addition of expired commercial syrup as an additive to the silage characteristics of a mixture of dwarf elephant grass and fine rice bran. This research was conducted at the Nutrition and Feed Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science, Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. The content of Water-Soluble Carbohydrates (WSC), ammonia, and total VFA were tested at the Dairy Cattle Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Science, IPB University. A completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 5 replicates was used in this experiment. The treatment distribution was as follows: P1: Odot Grass + Fine Rice Bran 5% DM (control), while P2, P3, P4, and P5 were the addition of expired commercial syrup as much as 2.50%, 5%, 7.50%, and 10% DM, respectively. The ensilage process lasted for 30 days at room temperature. Parameters measured included pH, WSC, ammonia, total VFA, and dry matter loss. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance, further tested using DMRT at 5% significance level. The results showed that the addition of expired commercial syrup up to 10% DM had a significant effect (P<0.05) on increasing lactic acid production so as to lower the pH towards acidic and reduce ammonia content, but there was variation in total VFA between treatments, including dry matter loss which was not significantly different between treatments supplemented with expired commercial syrup. In conclusion, expired commercial syrup can be used at 5% DM to reduce ammonia and increase total VFA of silage made from dwarf elephant grass and fine rice bran.

Abstract

Cabbage waste fermented liquid (Brassica oleracea) is a type of fermented liquid that contains lots of vitamins and other important nutrients that are beneficial for broilers. This study aims to determine the effect of adding fermented cabbage waste to the percentage of weight and length of the digestive organs of broilers including the weight of the proventriculus and ventriculus. This research was carried out from March to May 2021 at the Laboratory of UIN Agriculture Research and Development Station (UARDS) Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Sultan Syarif Kasim State Islamic University, Riau. The research material used 80 DOC broilers (CP 707). The research method was an experiment using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments consisted of P0 (control drinking water), P1 (2 ml of fermented cabbage waste/liter of drinking water), P2 (3 ml of fermented cabbage waste/liter of drinking water), and P3 (4 ml of fermented cabbage waste/liter of water). drinking water). The results of the analysis of variance showed that the administration of fermented cabbage waste in drinking water to broilers did not have a significant effect (P>0.05) on the percentage of weight and length of the digestive organs of broilers.
