Abstract

Tinfoil barb, Barbonymus schwanenfeldii (Bleeker, 1854), is a potential freshwater fish for Indonesian aquaculture. Before widely used, the candidate needs to be evaluated. This research aimed to evaluate the reproductive performance of the first generation (G1) and larval performance of the second generation (G2) of domesticated tinfoil barb. A total of 68 female and 24 male broodstocks were selected for the artificial breeding program. The gonadal maturity test was carried out by canulating the eggs every month. Before spawning, GnRHa hormone was injected into the dorsal area (0.5 mL/kg for female and 0.2 mL/kg for male). Fecundity, fertility rate, hatching rate, embryogenesis, and larvae ontogeny were recorded. The results showed that the first matured G1 males of tinfoil barb were at the standard length of 16.01 ± 1.18 cm, while females at 15.79 ± 1.23 cm. The mature broodstock indicated by the gonad maturity stage III and IV confirming higher estradiol concentration (above 400 pg mL-1). The fecundity of two mature broodstock-sized of 217.2 g and 197.3 g were 12,495 and 15,782 eggs, respectively. The spawning season of G1 tinfoil barb was in October and November (rainy seasons). The fertilized eggs latency time was 10 hours 44 minutes at 25°C and hatched after 23 hours 7 minutes. The fertility rate was 96.96 % and the hatching rate was 95.16 %. The survival rate of G2 normal larvae was 100 % at three days of the rearing period. The G2 larvae production in this experiment provides an excellent opportunity for fish diversification both for aquaculture and restocking.

Abstract

Sembilang Fish (Plotosus canius) is one of the fish found in estuarine waters, and it's quite popular with the community. Excessive fishing by the community causes the habitat of sembilang fish to be threatened to decrease. The purpose of this study was to determine the water quality and examine the environmental conditions of sembilang fish in the dry season and rainy season in the estuary waters of Langsa City as the basis for domestication. This study used a descriptive method by collecting water quality data at 3 research stations and collecting fish data that was taken from fishermen's catches in Langsa estuary waters. The results showed that the water quality parameters observed in the dry season and rainy season in the estuary were still in decent condition for the life and existence of sembilang fish. Season greatly affects the body weight of both male and female fish. In the dry season, the female weight ranges from 120–220 g and the male 120–240 g, while in the rainy season, the female weight ranges from 134-572 g and the male 136–260 g.

Abstract

Clownfish Amphiprion sp., have a relatively wide distribution area, especially in Indo-Pacific waters. In nature these fish live in small groups in one anemone and consist of one pair of parents, the others are usually smaller in size which are still in the male sex. If one of the parent pairs dies, the position will be replaced by the largest in the group, especially the female. This condition is usually called sequential hermaphrodite. The purpose of this study was to gather information on the techniques for fish hatchery clownfish to produce quality fish. Clownfish spawn with a sex ratio of 1:1, with an average spawning frequency of 2 times a month. Clown fish can produce eggs with an average of 419 eggs, fertilization rate (FR) 76,37%, hatching rate (HR) 75,27%, and survival rate (SR) 58,35%. For one year, the total number of fish hatchery that can be produced is 108.911. Payback period of 8,2 years, break event point (unit) of 73.859 fish/year, break event point (rupiah) of Rp. 369.292.918, and cost of production of Rp. 3.817/fish
