Abstract

Newborn mortality is still quite high in the world, including Indonesia, one of which is caused by complications of premature birth. Kangaroo Method Care (KMC) is one way to keep the newborn’s body temperature warm by making direct contact between the baby’s skin and the mother’s skin. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between knowledge, attitude, and practice of Kangaroo Care Method for mothers with low birth weight (LBW) infants. This study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. Respondents in this study were mothers who had LBW after treatment from the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Koja, North Jakarta who were domiciled in Koja, Tanjung Priok, and Cilincing Districts, North Jakarta, amounting to 50 people. Data was collected using questionnaires and observations, and analyzed using the Spearman Correlation statistical test. Based on the results of the study, the average score of mother’s knowledge about Kangaroo Care Method was 21.76 (SD 1.06); the average score of the mother’s attitude towards the Kangaroo Care Method is 26.74 (SD 0.80); and the average duration of practice for Kangaroo Care Method is 2.92 hours/day (SD 0.90). Based on the results of observations, it was found that most of the LBW mothers had practiced Kangaroo Method Care by holding the right position from Kangaroo Method Care. Based on the Spearman Correlation statistical test, it was found that there was a relationship between knowledge, attitude, and practice of the Kangaroo Care Method in LBW mothers.

Abstract

Background: Breastfeeding has been a very precious source for the development of infants and children. Generally, most of the studies about breastfeeding come from a medical knowledge point of view. However, the process of sustaining exclusive breastfeeding is not an easy task for a mother. As breastfeeding involves a mother's decision-making process, the study explores how mothers live in a megapolitan area, preserving exclusive breastfeeding until baby 6 months old and partially continued up to 2 years old. Psychology emphasizes individual (psychological) and macro factors which have a significant role in enabling exclusive breastfeeding.   Methodology: The study methodology was qualitative with case study type. Methods of data collection were an in-depth interview and on-the-spot interview observation. We have interviewed 4  participants. All of them are urban mothers (women live in megapolitan areas of Jakarta Greater Area or JABODETABEK). Age ranges from 20 to 40 years old, with at least an experience of exclusive breastfeeding and the child’s age currently not more than 12 years old. 2 out of 4 participants are working mothers, who have to strive every day between domestic and work domain.Result: All 4 research subjects are typically kind of “pejuang ASI” (breastfeeding warrior), a term used for representing a maternal woman who fights hard to breastfeed, as the best nutrition for a baby. It was shown that psychological processes of preserving exclusive breastfeeding of an urban mother significantly reflect the role of self-narration around the perception of breastfeeding as part of “natural mother” schema and how digital technology helps a mother to get more support and solve breastfeeding and baby’s problems. Conclusion:  First Mother’s schema about breastfeeding and attachment to the baby are important to motivate her to maintain exclusive breastfeeding. we need to know how her schema about breastfeeding and her attachment to the baby.  Second, it is important to identify her skills and knowledge on using digital technology diligently, for a more productive and comfortable process of delivering the best nutrition for the baby.

Abstract

Abstract

Ecological behavior is the most important factor to slow down climate change. This research aims to investigate the role of Environmental Attitude towards Ecological Behavior. This research utilized the mixed-method approach and consisted of 191 respondents and 2 pro-environmental groups. Quantitative data was collected through an online survey and qualitative data was collected through interviews. A simple regression model test showed that Environmental Attitude positively and significantly affects ecological behavior. After controlling for demographic factors such as gender, residency, source of income, and education level. It was found that these variables do not have significant effects on ecological behavior. Meanwhile, case studies reflect themes such as values of environment, technological use, the role of young volunteers, and past experiences. So, it can be concluded that the early adults in Jabodetabek implements ecological behavior as an effect of Environmental Attitude, and as a lifestyle. Most of respondents tend to use social media as a way of expressing their opinions and ideas regarding environmental problems. Therefore, if the government or other organizations have some programs for increasing the awareness of early adult in Jabodetabek to implement ecological behavior practice, they should focus on developing social media campaigns that will improve early adult environmental attitudes.
