Abstract

Patchouli oil is an important material for aromatherapy industries and made from patchouli leaves by steam distillation. The important parts of steam distillation is condenser. The problem is process of farmers patchouli based on experience not used chemical process of steam distillation cause not effective and efficient. The study was designed of condensers on steam distillation for patchouli leaves. Specification of condenser type is shell and tube, stainless steel material and water as coolant. Tubing sized is ¼ inch with 500 mm of length and 24 pieces. Shell measuring 2.5 inch and 600 mm of length. The performance of condenser gave the efficiency at 94.51%. The process condition of ratio stems to leaves is 5:6 and 4.5 hours was considered ideal for steam distillation. The used of energy is lowest cause the efficiency condenser and yield will be higher. Patchouli oil yield of 2.39% and patchouli alcohol content is 35.65%.

Abstract

Zeolit alam (NZ) telah dimodifikasi dengan penambahan asam (H-NZ) dan diaplikasikan sebagai katalis asam padat untuk green sintesis isopulehol dari minyak sereh wangi. Sintesis ini menlibatkan reaksi siklisasi sitronelal menjai disopulegol pada suhu 50 sampai 120oC. Aktivitas katalis H-NZ terbukti lebih tinggi dari katalis H-ZSM5 yang tersedia di pasar dan lebih unggul dari katalis asam padat berbasis bentonit. Perolehan terbaik sebesar 87% isopulegol diperoleh menggunakan katalis H-NZ pada 100oC selama 3 jam tanpa penggunaan pelarut reaksi.

Abstract

This research is experimental research in the research design is pretest-posttest control group design to find out the influence of open-ended approach on creative-mathematic thinking skill of student's grade V SD.  The population of this research is all student's grade V of SD considering middle-group category based on the average score on a mathematics national exam at SD/MI level in the entire Rancakalong region. Meanwhile, the samples of this research are SDN Pasirbenteng II as experimental group and SDN Pasirbiru as a control group. The instruments in this research consist of test, affective scale, observation format of teachers’ performance, observation format of students’ activities and interview. The result from this research proves that learning using the open-ended approach can significantly increase a creative mathematic thinking of student's grade V SD. It can be seen from the findings of data analysis. Based on the research, students’ response to mathematics learning using open-ended tends to show a positive response that means students have good tendency of interest and enthusiasm to the learning. Thus, it can be concluded that open-ended is one of the solutions to increase creative - mathematic thinking skill of student's grade V SD. Keywords: open-ended approach, creative-mathematic thinking skill.

Abstract

The development of technology and information demands elementary school teachers to be able to make and teach technology-based musical instruments so that the development of technology and information can be used in the learning process. Elementary school teachers also have problems teaching musical composition using ensemble musical instruments. Teachers also lack strategies and media to teach musical instruments, so they need to have ideas for developing technology-based musical instruments. This study aims to develop the elementary school teachers’ ability to innovate and make music learning media using a computerized system. The research design used was action research. The participants were 38 teachers from nine regencies and cities in West Java, Indonesia. The results showed that the teachers were able to complete the task of making technology-based learning media which means that they were able to develop their technological abilities to make music learning media. Teachers can easily use and master the Scratch application to make music learning media. It can be concluded that with structured and controlled training, elementary school teachers can develop themselves and innovate well.
