Abstract

One of the environment-based diseases is diarrhea. This disease is closely related to environmental sanitation conditions such as inadequate latrines and garbage. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that there are at least 2.2 million people who die from diarrhea, this is related to environmental conditions (sanitation/hygiene) and inadequate water (Moernanto, 2009). Judging from the district's health profile in 2018 it stated that in North Sumatra there were cases of diarrhea at all ages, namely 11,151 cases with service coverage reaching 10,280 cases (92.19%). Method: The design used in this study is descriptive quantitative with a cross sectional approach, and the research location is the Belawan Sicanang area. The number of research samples is 69 respondents using a non-probably sampling technique, namely the accidental sampling technique. Results: Based on the results of the SPSS analysis research based on the chi-square test with α=5%, it can be stated that there is a relationship between the location of the existence of latrines, the use of clean water, and the behavior of disposing of garbage to the TPA with the incidence of diarrhea in Belawan Sicanang with the acquisition of a Pvalue of each 0.03, 0.015, and 0.02 (p<0.05). Abstract

A new study released by UNICEF in 2022, states that nearly 70 percent of the 20,000 household drinking water sources tested in Indonesia have been contaminated with fecal waste and one of the causes of the spread of diarrheal diseases. Based on data from the Bumi Ayu Health Center (2022), households are still found using the plengsengan and cemplung types of latrines. Improper fecal drainage conditions make clean water sources and drinking water cannot be used directly so that it can have an impact on public health. The purpose of this study was to analyze the source of water and septic tank ownership with total Coliform household clean water in the District of South Dumai. This study uses quantitative research with cross sectional design. Sampling technique is done by purposive sampling technique. The Data were obtained by using questionnaires and laboratory tests of clean water samples (Wells) consumed and <10 m with a septictank of 10 samples. The results of the questionnaire were analyzed using the chi square test and it is known that the entire sample contains total coliform bacteria (> 50 MPN). It is known that there is a relationship between the source of clean water used by respondents with septic tank ownership. Then the results of the analysis with total coliform content showed that all samples of well water, which is a subsurface water source, were contaminated by total coliform bacteria so that they did not meet hygiene and health standards. The suggestion is that people should be more selective in choosing and using water sources for consumption. Keywords: Septictank, Total Coliform, Water Source, Well Water

Abstract

Hygiene is a health effort to maintain and protect the cleanliness of food, such as washing hands with clean water and soap to protect hand hygiene, washing dishes to keep plates clean, and throwing away damaged parts of food to protect the integrity of the food as a whole. Sanitation is an effort to prevent disease that focuses on emphasizing activities on human environmental health efforts. Sanitation is a health effort to maintain and protect the cleanliness of the environment of the subject. Cleanliness and clean sanitation will make the presentation of food provide added value and attract customers when it is distributed. Therefore, there are various technical methods for serving food to consumers as long as they pay attention to appropriateness or good hygiene and sanitation. According to BPOM, in 2017, 5,293 people were exposed to food poisoning, which was dominated by microbiology. Meanwhile, 2,041 cases of extraordinary events (KLB) have been reported and 3 people died. This research is a descriptive observational study with a quantitative approach. The variables used in this research are handler hygiene, equipment sanitation, serving sanitation, and vendor facility sanitation. In assessing hygiene and sanitation, this research is guided by the regulations of the Decree of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. 92/MENKES/SK/VII/2003 concerning guidelines for hygiene and sanitation requirements for snack foods. This research was conducted on street vendors at Campus IV UINSU Tuntungan. The total sample was 30 street vendors using a simple random side sampling technique. In collecting data using observation and interview techniques. The data sources used are primary data which comes from interviews and observations, while secondary data comes from previous research. Data analysis uses univariate analysis to produce the distribution and frequency of each variable, namely a description of hygiene and sanitation, hygiene of handlers, sanitation of equipment, sanitation of serving, and sanitation of vending facilities is presented in the form of tables and tables. Suggestions are expected to avoid contamination of food equipment, especially germs, it is necessary to improve equipment sanitation such as washing equipment using clean water and using soap and drying equipment using a dryer or clean cloth. Handlers should wash their hands before and after work. The government and POM should carry out routine supervision and inspections in school canteens, catering services, and street snacks, especially around campuses.

Abstract

Waste management in households is very important in the context of environmental and community sustainability because household waste is still the main contributor to waste. The active role and participation of the community, especially housewives, is needed to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, waste sorting practices and grouping them in different containers according to their type. The purpose of the study was to determine the factors related to waste management behavior in housewives in Masangau Hamlet, Silau Padang, Sipispis, Serdang Bedagai. This study is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 85 housewives in Masangau Hamlet. A sample of 45 respondents was selected using the Simple Random Sampling method based on the Lemeshow formula. Data analysis was performed with chi-square tests for univariate and bivariate analysis, using questionnaires as instruments. The results showed that the majority of respondents were aged 25-59 years (84.4%), with 6.7% over 60 years old. A total of 57.8% had higher education and 42.2% had low education. Most (73.3%) work as housewives. The respondents' knowledge was divided into 55.6% good and 44.4% low, while the attitude was 66.7% good and 33.3% less good. Only 22.2% had good facilities, and 77.8% were not good. High motivation was recorded in 46.7% of respondents, and 53.3% had low motivation. Waste management behavior was good by 44.4%, and 55.6% was not good. The chi-square test showed p-values of 0.627 for age and 0.177 for occupation, both >0.05, showing no significant association. However, there is a significant relationship between waste management behavior with education (p-value 0.017), knowledge (p-value 0.001), attitude (p-value 0.001), facilities and infrastructure (p-value 0.014), and motivation (p-value 0.002). In conclusion, there is a relationship between education, knowledge, attitudes, facilities and infrastructure, and motivation with waste management behavior, but no relationship with age and occupation.
