Abstract

Sea urchins is the member of Echinoidea. This species can be found in tropical marine water to the poles. The study aimed to know the types, the abundance and spread of sea urchins in Bengkayang Regency. The research, used the transect method. Each station consisted of 3 transects with a length of 50 meters from the shore into the sea with the distance of 10 meters among the transects. This research obtained five species consisting of three species of the Diadema (genus) and two species of the Echinotrix (genus) i.e. Diadema antillarium, D. savignyi, D. setosum, Echinotrix calamaris and E. deadema. The density of sea urchins in Lemukutan Island ranges from 273 – 453 ind/Ha. The Density of sea urchins on Penata Kecil island ranges from 167 - 347 ind / Ha and on Penata Besar Island has a range from 307 - 387 ind/Ha. The highest diversity of sea urchins was found in Penata Kecil Island of (1.2355). The distribution of sea urchins in Lemukutan and Penata Besar Island was categorized into clumped and evenly distributed, while the distribution of sea urchin on Penata Kecil Island is included in the clustered and random categories. Distribution of sea urchins on the island is influenced by several factors such as sea water waves and food contained in the environment.

Abstract

Parasetamol merupakan obat yang umum digunakan sebagai antipiretik dan analgesik tetapi dapat bersifat nefrotoksik apabila digunakan secara berlebih (overdosis). Buah lakum (Cayratia trifolia [L.] Domin) diketahui dapat digunakan sebagai nefroprotektif akibat parasetamol karena mengandung senyawa metabolit sekunder yang bersifat antioksidan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dosis optimal ekstrak metanol buah lakum (C. trifolia [L.] Domin) yang mampu meregenerasi nefron pada mikroanatomi ginjal tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) yang diinduksi parasetamol. Rancangan penelitian pada penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) yang terbagi menjadi tujuh kelompok perlakuan, yaitu kontrol normal (akuabides), kontrol negatif (parasetamol), kontrol positif (obat HEPA-Q), kontrol pelarut (CMC 0,5%) dan kelompok ekstrak (115 mg/200 g BB tikus, 230 mg/200 g BB tikus dan 345 mg/200 g BB tikus). Hasil penelitian ini adalah ekstrak buah lakum dosis 230 mg/200 g BB tikus memiliki kemampuan regenerasi nefron yang optimal dengan rerata kerusakan glomerulus dan tubulus masing-masing 1,6 ± 0,54 dan 1,4 ± 0,44. Struktur mikroanatomi ginjal tikus pada kelompok ekstrak buah lakum dosis 230 mg/200 g BB tikus memiliki struktur yang tidak berbeda dengan kelompok positif.

Abstract

The Ambawang river is an area of the peat waters which is at the Pancaroba Village of Kubu Raya Regency. The purpose of this research is to know the structure of the phytoplankton communities and knowing physical-chemical water condition against the community of phytoplankton in peat water at Ambawang River, Pancaroba Village. Research carried out using purpossive sampling method. Research results retrieved 11 (eleven) genera of phytoplankton that is Achnanthes, Anabaena, Asterionella, Bambusina, Diatomae, Fragillaria, Gonatozygon, Mougeotia, Navicula, Stauroneis and Synedra. Highest abundances of phytoplankton found at Station IV with total of abundance 820.11 Ind/L. Lowest abundance of phytoplankton found at Station II with total of abundance 181.98 Ind/L. Index of Diversity (H') phytoplankton between stations ranged between 0.9409-1.4625. Index of Dominance (D) ranged between 0.2855-0,4382. Index of Equity (E) ranged between 0.3924-0.6099 and between Station I and Station II have in common a high of 100%.

Abstract

Snakehead fish (Channa micropeltes Cuvier) is economical freshwater fish which are found in Kelubi Lake. Over time, Kelubi lake had changed by activity around the lake and impact on biota in it. The purpose of this research to gain information about aspects of snakehead fish reproduction in the Kelubi Lake which involve include density, sex ratio, level of gonad maturity, index of gonad maturity, fecundity, and egg diameter, along with aspects of marine environment Kelubi Lake. This research have been done at December, 2013 untill February, 2014. Sampling technique using Proportionate Cluster Random Sampling with fishnet stocking area 12,56 m2. Based on Catch per Unit Effort (CPUE) analyst is known snakehead fish density in Kelubi Lake is 439 fishes. Sex ratio between snakehead fish male and female is 2:1. Population is dominated by widhitebait with level of gonad maturity (TKG) I. Index of gonad maturity is about 0,03-0,94%,indicates that snakehead fish can spawn year-around. Snakehead fish fecundity as about 14.056 grains/fish and egg diameter range between 2,30-2,57 mm.

Abstract

Kelubi lake has an area of ?? 220 ha and high puddles influenced by rainfall. The research aimed to know macrozoobenthos diversity and the quality of Kelubi lake waters. Determination of five sampling stations based on different environmental setting. Macrozoobenthos samples were taken three times at each station by Ekman Grab and identified in the Zoology Laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Tanjungpura University Pontianak. Macrozoobenthos research results obtained in the waters of Lake Kelubi four genera namely Chironomus, Dasyhelea, Dixella and Limnodrilus. Value abundance of macrozoobenthos in Lake Kelubi ranged from 44.44 to 355.55 Ind/m2. The diversity index (H) of the highest macrozoobenthos obtained at station IV of 355.55 Ind/m2 and lowest at station I of 0.5004 Ind/m2. The macrozoobenthos diversity in Kelubi lake was low to moderate. The average of evenness index (E) of macrozoobenthos was 0.8650 which indicates high evenness, while the average of Simpson dominance index (C) wason the average of 0,4950 which in considered low dominance of macrozoobenthos. The result of Pearson correlation test shows that depth, temperature, transparency, organic substrate significantly affect the diversity of macrozoobenthos in Kelubi lake. Kelubi lakes classified in moderate pollution levels.

Abstract

Dendropthoe pentandra (L.) Miq constitutes one type of parasite plant, which is efficacious as an antibacterial and able to inhibit the growth of microorganisms. Salmonella typhi is the bacteria that attacks the gastrointestinal tract, so that it is necessary to look for antibacterial alternative medicine from natural materials. The aim of this study is to determine the antibacterial activity of methanol extract from                D. pentandra leaves toward the growth of S. typhi bacteria. The research conducted from August to September 2013. The extract of D. pentandra leaves obtained by employing maceration method. The test of antibacterial activity carried out by using paper disc diffusion method at the level 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% (g/mL) of extract concentration, and also positive control by using 2.5% of chloramphenicol. Phytochemical analysis indicates that the extract of D. pentandra leaves contain flavonoids, alkaloids, polyphenols, steroids and quinones. The analysis indicates that the concentration of  D. pentandra extract leaves has significant effect toward the diameter of the inhibition zone formed. Concentration of 75% is the lowest concentration that can inhibit the growth of S. typhi to grow larger. The results indicate that the methanol extract of D. pentandra leaves has antibacterial activity toward S. typhi.

Abstract

One of the ways of controlling the housefly (Musca domestica L.) is by using botanical insecticide that is capable of repelling M. domestica i.e. using the kesum leaf (Polygonum minus Huds.). This research aimed to determine the lowest concentration of methanol extract of P. minus that had a repellent effect, as well as to determine the effectiveness of the extract in causing knockdown and its first knockdown period on M. domestica. The research was conducted from January to February 2014 at the Laboratory of Zoology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Laboratory of Forest Products Technology, Faculty of Forestry, Tanjungpura University. This research uses a Randomized Group Design (RGD) in which there were 6 treatments of electric mats with active ingredient of methanol extract of P. minus with concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% respectively, as well as alcohol of 50% as a solvent control, which was repeated 3 times. The test results indicated that the methanol extract of P. minus had a repellent effect and knockdown against M. domestica, where the concentration of the methanol extract of P. minus at 10% offered the highest repellent effect by 61.67% which fell into the moderate category and concentration of the extract at 25% was more effective in causing knockdown against M. domestica by 75% where the first knockdown period occurred in the 40th minute.

Abstract

The butterfly is one of the fauna found in the area of Mandor Nature Reserve needs to bepreserved and have a benefit asenvironmental health bioindikator. This research aims to know the type and the level of diversity of butterflies on heath lands at Mandor Nature Reserve. Research methods used are field observation with outbound techniques in three different habitats, namely in the area of forest, forest edge and open areas. The research results obtained 15 types of butterflies that is Acraea violae, Appias libythea, Catopsilia pyranthe, Euploea mulciber, Eurema sari, Hypolimnas bolina, Junonia orithya, J. atlites, Letopsia nina, Neptis hylas, Papilio demodocus, P. helenus, P. polytes, P. memnon, and Parantica agleoides. Index of Diversity (H') of butterfly was founded ranged between 1.1602 - 2.1661 with average of diversity 1.7051. Index of equity (E) ranged between 0.4184 – 0.7813 with average 0.6104 that’s shows level of high equity. Index of Dominance (D) ranged between 0.1328-0.4297 with the average 0.2509 that shows there is no type of butterflies that dominates on site research.

Abstract

Sungai Kapuas memiliki peran penting dalam kehidupan masyarakat Kota Sintang. Kepadatan penduduk dan intensitas penggunaan sungai yang semakin meningkat menyebabkan penurunan kualitas air Sungai Kapuas akibat pencemaran limbah yang masuk ke dalamnya. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman makrozoobentos dan kualitas perairan di Sungai Kapuas Kota Sintang. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada 5 stasiun, setiap stasiun diambil 4 titik yang mewakili tepi kanan dan kiri sungai. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan sebanyak dua kali, yaitu pada bulan Maret dan bulan April 2011. Hasil penelitian didapatkan tiga filum makrozoobentos yaitu Annelida, Arthropoda dan Molusca. Filum Annelida diwakili kelas Oligochaeta dari genus Limnodrilus dan Lumbricullus. Filum Arthropoda diwakili kelas Insecta dari genus Chironomus dan Probezzia. Filum Molusca diwakili kelas Gastropoda dari genus Sphaerium. Kepadatan total genus makrozoobentos tertinggi pada bulan Maret (1244,44 ind./m2) dan April 2011 (1911,11 ind./m2) didominasi oleh Limnodrilus. Indeks keanekaragaman Shannon-Winner makrozoobentos pada bulan Maret dan April 2011 tergolong rendah (0,4196-1,1644). Kualitas perairan Sungai Kapuas Kota Sintang ditinjau dari keanekaragaman makrozoobentos tergolong sebagai perairan tercemar berat oleh bahan organik.

Abstract

Klotok ship is one of transportation that was used in West Kalimantan. The engine sound from the ship has negative impact on passengers health. The purpose of this research is to find out correlation between noise in klotok ship and blood pressure of male passengers. The research used interview with 90 respondents noise measure in ship and blood pressure passengers. The research analysed age of passengers, frequency of using the ship, smoking habits, hipertension, and types of jobs. The current research used regression analysis to measure intensity of the engine sound of ship and blood preassure. The approximate intensity of engine sound was 93,49 dBA. The intensity of engine sound was the main factor of blood prassure passenger increase. Based on the analysis of Y= 152,20+0,001X and Y=94,73+0.0001X, it showed that there was significant correlation between engine sound of klotok ship systolic and diastolic blood pressure of male passengers.
