Abstract

Good personal hygiene is needed by young women, including during menstruation, to prevent problems or diseases in the reproductive organs. However, many young girls do not have sufficient knowledge regarding this issue. The problem of insufficient knowledge and practice of personal hygiene during menstruation was also found in the students of SMP Negeri 1 Amanuban Selatan. This school is located in South Central Timor (TTS) Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province. This service activity aims to increase the knowledge and practice of personal hygiene for young women during menstruation at SMP Negeri 1 Amanuban Selatan, TTS Regency, NTT. Activities included counseling, discussions, and demonstrations on personal hygiene during menstruation, distribution of personal hygiene kits and sanitary napkins to students, and initiation of the formation of Adolescent Health Cadre groups with teachers as mentors. The results of the service activities showed an increase in knowledge by 50% after counseling and a strong commitment from the students of SMP Negeri 1 Amanuban Selatan to practice personal hygiene during menstruation properly and correctly, and the willingness of teachers to guide and assist groups of adolescent health cadres formed after service activities. The active participation of students and teachers in youth health cadre groups is very important in ensuring the sustainability of the results of community service activities.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused changes in activity patterns and life habits, which have an impact on increasing psychosocial pressure and psychological (mental) problems in adolescents, such as feelings of anxiety and loneliness, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Complaints about changes in behavior and emotions during the Covid-19 pandemic were also found in SMA Negeri 2 Kupang City students. Most students show feelings of boredom, irritability, lack of enthusiasm, and stress, as well as internet and online game dependency behavior. Students and teachers also lack knowledge about mental health and Covid-19 prevention behavior. This community service activity is carried out to increase the knowledge and abilities of students and teachers in recognizing and maintaining adolescent mental health while implementing appropriate preventive behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic. Service activities include counseling on mental health and the Covid-19 pandemic, social skills training (life skills), provision of IEC media in the form of youth mental health leaflets/posters during the Covid-19 pandemic, and provision of PHBS supporting facilities to implement the Covid-19 Pandemic behavior. The activity results showed that after counseling, there was an increase of 82.5% for students of SMAN 2 Kupang with a good level of knowledge. All students participating in community service activities can also practice skills in preventing and improving mental health and preventing the transmission of Covid-19. The school (students and teachers) should consistently educate youth mental health and health protocols to all students of SMAN 2 Kupang.

Abstract

Stunting is a serious health issue because it has short-term and long-term impacts on public health. NTT Province is the province with the highest stunting cases in Indonesia. Baadale Village, which is in the Rote Ndao Regency, NTT, is also not immune from the problem of stunting in toddlers and targets to be stunting-free by 2023. The problems found are the lack of knowledge of pregnant women and mothers of toddlers regarding environmental sanitation, inconsistent implementation of environmental sanitation and clean and healthy living behavior, poor parenting patterns for toddlers, and limited knowledge and practice of serving varied food menus in improving toddler nutrition. This community service activity is carried out to increase the knowledge and abilities of mothers of children under five years old regarding implementing environmental sanitation, parenting patterns, and serving a variety of food menus to reduce stunting rates. The activities include health education and providing animal protein assistance. The activity results showed an increase in knowledge of 60% in pregnant women and mothers of toddlers after the counseling. Participants were also willing to apply and pass on the knowledge gained to other pregnant women and mothers of toddlers in Baadale Village. Continuous assistance and education need to be carried out to continue to encourage the will and ability of the community, especially pregnant women and mothers of toddlers, to maintain a healthy environment and implement good parenting patterns in terms of feeding, health care, and personal hygiene for children under five years old.
