Abstract

The utilization of saline soil for chili pepper production might be established by selecting tolerant varieties so that the growth and production remain stable even though they are planted on marginal lands. The purpose of this study was to determine the selection criteria for tolerant chili pepper to salinity and select a chili pepper genotype that are tolerant to salinity based on morphological characters and yield components. This study was carried out in Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, from November 2020 to May 2021. The study was carried out on saline land nearby the coast with an average of electrical conductivity (EC) of 6.66 dS m-1. The study used a randomized complete block design with 22 lines of elite chili pepper and three replications. The results showed that characters as selection criteria for salinity tolerant were plant height, days to flowering, days to harvest, and fruit length because they had a significant effect on fruit weight per plant and high broad-sense heritability of 81.53%, 94.75%, 95.05%, and 87.45%, respectively. Based on these characters, the genotype selected as a candidate for the tolerant variety was G17. This genotype can be recommended for the development of chili pepper in saline soil. Keywords: heritability, saline land, tolerance, yield

Abstract

The food processing industry is currently growing rapidly in Kolaka Regency, marketing focuses on local travelers and tourists. The marketing pattern has been carried out online, but during the Covid-19 Pandemic it caused decrease the purchasing power and travelers. To maintain sales turnover, the industry must know the factors that affect marketing performance. Research purposes are to analyze the effect of product innovation on the marketing performance and to analyze the effect of marketing strategy creativity on the marketing performance of the food processing industry in Kolaka Regency. The research design is a survey research. The sampling technique is the census or saturated sampling technique where the research sample is all members of the population (51 Industries). The analytical technique used is multiple linear regression analysis and t test. The research results are product innovation variables have a positive and significant effect on the marketing performance with variable indicators including product expansion, product imitation, and new products. The marketing strategy creativity variable has a positive and significant effect on the marketing performance with variable indicators including individual characteristics, creative processes, and work environment

Abstract

Cassava peel waste can be used as an energy source in the form of bioethanol. The need for bioethanol is increasing both asalternative energy to replace fuel oil (BBM). Ethanol (C2H5OH) is the result of conversion from the sugar fermentation process using the help of microorganisms. This study aims to determine the levels of bioethanol produced from cassava peel obtained from Ibun sub-district, Bandung Regency through enzymatic treatment. The research procedure started from the pretreatment of cassava peel waste as a substrate, enzymatic hydrolysis, and fermentation. Enzymatic hydrolysis using Trichoderma viride isolates with 3 variations in inoculum concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20%. As for the fermentation process using Saccharomyces cerevisiae isolates. The highest reducing sugar of 21.28 mg/L was produced by treatment with hydrolysis time of 60 hours and inoculum concentration of 10%. The highest bioethanol content was 4.9 mg/L with a fermentation time of 96 hours.

Abstract

Chili is one of the most valuable horticultural commodities, yet production is declining year after year. Fruit fly pests, which cause losses of 30-60%, are a stumbling block to growing chili production. Several types of aromatic vegetable extracts were used in this investigation, including clove leaves, babadotan, citronella leaves, and basil leaves, all of which have been found to contain methyl eugenol components. The goals of this study were to find the most efficient form of aromatic vegetable extract for usage as a fruit fly pest attractant and to see how different aromatic vegetable extracts affected the intensity of fruit fly pests.  The treatments were set up in a completely random order and were repeated three times. Planting chilies, creating aromatic vegetable extracts, making traps, deploying traps in the field, estimating the number of trapped fruit fly populations, and finally assessing the results were all part of this study. P1 = clove leaf extract, P2 = babadotan leaf extract, P3 = citronella leaf extract, and P4 = basil leaf extract are the therapies that will be provided. Bactrocera dorsalis was identified as the captured fruit fly species. The clove leaf extract treatment had the most fruit flies captured (35.67), while the babadotan leaf extract had the least (29.76), but none of the treatments were substantially different

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the soil degradation level for biomass production in sloping areas used as agricultural land. This research was conducted in Tanggetada District, Kolaka Regency. This research was conducted using a field survey method with a slope class approach which is used as agricultural land with a slope of 8-15%, 15-25%, 25-45%, and 45%. The results of the study show that the status of soil damage in sloped areas used as agricultural land in Tanggetada District, Kolaka Regency, for slope classes 8-15%, 15-25%, and 25-45% included in the lightly damaged category while slope classes 45% included in the moderately damaged category. The limiting factors for soil damage status at this location are surface rock, microbial count, bulk density, permeability, and redox

Abstract

Soybean is one of the important food commodities in Indonesia which occupies the third position after rice and corn. In 2020, soybean production reached 632.3 tons but decreased by 3.01% to 613.3 tons in 2021 and is predicted to continue to decline until 2024. Whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) is one of the important pests on soybeans. which is also a viral vector. The purpose of this study was to obtain refugia plants which were effective in suppressing the whitefly pest population on soybeans. The study was carried out using a Randomized Block Design (RAK) with 5 treatments and repeated 3 times so that there were 15 experimental units. The treatment used 4 types of refugia plants, namely: R1 = yellow kenikir flower, R2 = orange kenikir flower, R3 = Zinnia elegans paper flower, R4 = Tagetes erecta flower, and R0 = Control (soybean plant without refugia block). The results showed that the four types of refugia affected the whitefly pest population but were not significantly different in each treatment and had no effect on the intensity of the whitefly pest attack. There are 7 species of natural enemies of whitefly consisting of 6 species of predators and 1 species of parasitoid. Most predators come from the order Coleoptera.
