Abstract

This paper reports one best-practice in assessing the public speaking performance of advanced students at an Indonesian public university. The study involves an English course for an advanced class which was primarily related to public speaking skills. Considering that speaking is a productive skill that should be assessed through authentic assessment principles, the lecturers decided to assign the students with a mini-seminar project as part of their final examination. This project required the students to conduct a real-life contextualised seminar in which the organisers, speakers, and audience are composed of the students themselves. This paper discusses the rationale behind the planning and implementation of this successful project which involved a synthesis of assessment of, for, and as learning and critically evaluates the procedures of the assessment, the rubric developed therein, and the challenges experienced by the lecturers within the classroom. After the implementation, it can be concluded that this mini-seminar project as a doable alternative authentic assessment model that is applcable in a speaking class which focuses on the development of students’ public speaking skills. This mini-seminar project is recommended not only because it can be used as an alternative assessment model, but also it encourages students to work together in teams, and encourage them to work creatively, create something new in order to perform better.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji dan menganalisis pengaruh budaya organisasi dan motivasi terhadap kepuasan kerja guru di Sekolah Dasar Negeri di Kecamatan Rumbai Pesisir Kota Pekanbaru, yang berjumlah 311 orang dengan sampel 78 responden yang dipilih secara acak. Jenis dari penelitian ini adalah data primer untuk variabel budaya organisasi dan motivasi kerja yang bersumber dari guru SD Negeri di Kecamatan Rumbai Pesisir Kota Pekanbaru dihitung dari tanggal 2 September sampai dengan 30 Oktober 2020  dengan menggunakan kuisioner dan data sekunder untuk variabel kepuasan kerja guru yang bersumber dari Dinas Pendidikan Kota Pekanbaru. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan path analisis dengan bantuan SPSS. Dari hasil penelitian ini menujukkan bahwa budaya organisasi dan motivasi kerja berpengaruh dengan kepuasan kerja guru baik secara simultan maupun secara partial. Hasil dari penelitian ini terdapat pengaruh yang positif antara budaya organisasi dan motivasi kerja dengan kepuasan kerja guru. Semakin baik budaya organisasi dan semakin kuat motivasi kerja maka semakin tinggi kepuasan kerja. Sebaliknya semakin buruk budaya organisasi dan lemah motivasi kerja makin rendah pula kepuasan kerja. Kesimpulan, variabel budaya organisasi dan motivasi baik secara sendiri sendiri dan bersama-sama/ simultan mempunyai pengaruh yang signifikan dengan kepuasan kerja guru Sekolah Dasar Negeri di Kecamatan Rumbai Pesisir Kota Pekanbaru Provinsi Riau

Abstract

Literacy Village is a village area that is used to create people who have broad knowledge and understanding. At the same time, it is also a program to realize the Sustainable Development Goals in 2030. An important effort made as the first step to build a Literacy Village in Maredan Barat physically is to build a Community Reading Park, as well as building positive perceptions of the community towards Literacy Village. This paper will explain the efforts made in building this Literacy Village. To get feedback and people’s perceptions about the activities done, 56 respondents were asked to give their responce to the given questionnaire. Respondents were selected by stratified random sampling. The results of the questionnaire analysis show that the community has a positive perception of the development of Literacy Village. In general, activities of Literacy Village development can be said to be successful, although there are still obstacles due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas pengaruh kemampuan manajerial kepala sekolah dan akuntabilitas guru terhadap mutu SD di Kecamatan Tampan. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan menggunakan kuesioner sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Populasi pada artikel ini melibatkan 156 guru, sedangkan sampel melibatkan 112 guru dari 6 sekolah dasar negeri di Kecamatan Tampan dengan teknik simple random sampling. Hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa 1) terdapat pengaruh yang positif signifikan kemampuan manajerial kepala sekolah (X1) terhadap mutu sekolah (Y) sebesar 24% dalam meningkatkan mutu sekolah yang ditentukan oleh kemampuan manajerial kepala sekolah. 2) Terdapat pengaruh yang positif signifikan akuntabilitas guru (X2) terhadap mutu sekolah (Y) sebesar 22% dalam menguatkan mutu sekolah yang ditentukan oleh akuntabilitas guru. 3) Terdapat pengaruh yang positif signifikan kemampuan manajerial kepala sekolah (X1) dan akuntabilitas guru (X2), secara bersama-sama terhadap Mutu Sekolah (Y) ditunjukan dengan persamaan regresi regresi Ý= 0.216 + 0.669X1 + 0.398X2 dengan kontribusi pengaruh sebesar 28.5%. Hasil penelitian tersebut menunjukkan bahwa adanya pengaruh yang positif signifikan antara kemampuan manajerial kepala sekolah terhadap mutu sekolah, antara akuntabilitas guru terhadap mutu sekolah serta pengaruh yang positif signifikan antara kemampuan manajerial kepala sekolah dan akuntabilitas guru secara bersama-sama terhadap mutu sekolah.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of variables (1) workload on teacher work stress levels, (2) dual role conflict on teacher work stress levels, (3) workload and dual role conflict together on teacher work stress levels. The research respondents were principals of public elementary schools in Tanjung Medan District, Rokan Hilir Regency, totaling 148 people with a sample of 108. The data was collected through the distribution of questionnaires as research instruments. The data analysis used is descriptive analysis and inferential statistical analysis. The instrument reliability coefficient was calculated using the Cronbach alpha formula. The results showed that there was a positive and significant effect of workload on the teacher's work stress level of 0.517, there was a positive and significant influence of dual role conflict on the teacher's work stress level of 0.458. Meanwhile, together there is an effect of workload and dual role conflict on the teacher's work stress level of 0.543

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan pengaruh kompensasi dan iklim organisasi terhadap kualitas pelayanan pegawai Dinas Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Kabupaten Rokan Hilir. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif dan metode Survey dengan teknik korelasional (correlational resarch). Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah kuisioner dengan 42 responden dari 71 semua Pegawai Dinas Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Kabupaten Rokan Hilir yang dipilih secara acak sebagai sampel menggunakan rumus Slovin. Metode penelitian dilakukan yaitu responden memberikan tanggapan terhadap kuesioner dalam bentuk skala likert yang terdiri dari lima pilihan jawaban yaitu Sangat Sering, Sering, Kadang-kadang, Jarang, dan Tidak Pernah. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah statistik deskriptif dan inferensial. Berdasarkan dari analisis data Diperoleh pengaruh yang siginifikan antara variabel kompensasi terhadap kualitas pelayanan sebesar 17,70% dengan tafsiran rendah, karena masih terdapat 82,30% ditentukan oleh faktor lain yang tidak menjadi bagian dari penelitian ini; selanjutnya, Diperoleh pengaruh yang siginifikan antara variabel iklim organisasi terhadap kualitas pelayanan sebesar 32,00% dengan tafsiran rendah, karena masih terdapat 68,00% ditentukan oleh faktor lain yang tidak menjadi bagian dari penelitian ini; dan Diperoleh pengaruh yang siginifikan secara bersama-sama antara variabel kompensasi dan iklim organisasi terhadap kualitas pelayanan sebesar 34,70% dengan tafsiran rendah, karena masih terdapat 65,30% ditentukan oleh faktor lain yang tidak menjadi bagian dari penelitian ini.

Abstract

Pesatnya perkembangan bioteknologi harus berkontribusi pada kesejahteraan manusia, dengan mengedepankan norma etika dan kemaslahatan semua mahluk hidup. Tetapi tidak seperti hal nya dengan pengaplikasia senjata biologis sebagai senjata penghancur massal. Artikel ini membahas bagaimana sejarah senjata biologis sampai era terbaru lahirnya indikasi Corona Virus salah satu senjata kimia. Dalam kajian filsafat, penggunaan senjata biologis dapat dilihat dari sudut pandang aksial, yaitu dengan menunjukkan teori kegunaan ilmu yang diperoleh dan kaidah-kaidah dari apa yang telah kita peroleh. Sikap memikirkan kebaikan pada semua aspek harus dipilih ketika mengaplikasikan suatu sains. Aksiologi mencover ide tentang subjek nilai, seperti nilai etika, agama, dan nilai estetika. Aksiologi menjawab banyak permasalahan yang berhubungan dengan fungsi sains, keterkaitan antara fungsi dan norma moral, penentuan objek menurut aturan moral, dan kaitan antara metode ilmiah dan teknik dan prosedur norma moral. Oleh sebab itu nilai moral dan kemanusiaan harus diperhatikan dalam mengaplikasikan rekayasa genetika dalam pembuatan senjata pemusnah massal.

Abstract

The issue is that history is generally taught in schools in a conventional manner, relying solely on textbook explanations and attempting to gather facts about what happened in the past. As a result, history classes have always come to be associated with memorization and recollection of past events, making it harder for students to acquire higher-order thinking abilities like historical thinking. To distribute the potential that students must possess, relevant paradigms, methods, tactics, models, and processes must be used to develop historical thinking abilities. The goal of this research is to develop a local history learning model based on the progressivism paradigm that will aid students in improving their historical thinking abilities. This study is a development studies project based on Thiagarajan, Semmel, and Semmel's 4D development design. The research stage is modified according to the needs and goals of the study. Interviews, open questionnaires, validation sheets, and historical thinking skills tests were used to gather data for the study. This study enlisted the participation of 160 students from Riau University's history education program. Our study's findings show that the local history learning model based on the progressive paradigm was valid and reliable as a learning model in local history learning and had a significant impact on students at Riau University's think historically. The summative evaluation indicated that the progressivism-based local history learning model was extremely effective in improving higher-order thinking abilities like historical thinking. Abstract

The role of the teacher in the world of education is very dominant in achieving the quality of education, this is because the teacher who deals directly with students, so efforts are needed to improve teacher performance. The basic problems that occur related to teacher performance are the factors that influence teacher performance, there are many factors that affect teacher performance, including academic supervision and the leadership style of the school principal are two factors that are assumed to affect teacher performance. It is assumed that the implementation of academic supervision and the implementation of the principal's leadership style have not been maximal, it is assumed that it has influenced the good and bad performance of senior high school teachers in the Dumai Selatan District. This study aims to determine and test 1) The partial effect of academic supervision on teacher performance, 2) The partial effect of the principal's leadership style on teacher performance, and 3) The simultaneous effect of academic supervision and the principal's leadership style on the performance of senior high school teachers in the Dumai Selatan District. This type of research is a field research (Field Research) with a correlation approach which aims to obtain data from the problems studied, the method in this research is ex post facto. The population in this study were 127 teachers who taught in senior high schools in Dumai Selatan District with the total of sample were 97 teachers.The research results obtained in the field show that: (1) there is a positive and significant influence of academic supervision on teacher performance of 14.0% with a t-count value of 3,933 with a t-table value of 1,988 with a significance value of <0.005. (2) there is a positive and significant influence of the principal's leadership style on teacher performance by 13.0% on the basis of a t-count value of 3,762 > t-table value of 1,988 with a significance value of <0.005, (3) there is a positive and significant influence of supervision academic and leadership style of the principal simultaneously on teacher performance by 30.3% with a constant value of 31.371, with an X1 coefficient of 0.324 and an X2 coefficient of 0.601. Based on the results of this analysis, it can be concluded that academic supervision and leadership style of school principals can be used as predictor variables and can determine and influence the performance of senior high school teachers in Dumai Selatan District.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop an English learning medium using Edpuzzle to understand language expressions in listening and speaking classes. A Research and Development (RD) design was employed in this study, using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) as the development model. Data were collected through an online questionnaire consisting of a set of written statements for respondents to answer. Descriptive analysis was utilized as the technique for data analysis, dealing with quantitative data. Four Edpuzzle-based videos, featuring explanations and quizzes, were developed and validated by media and language experts. The validation results revealed that the video 'Invitation' achieved an average score of 4.25 (valid), the video 'Apologizing, Expressing Anger and Resolving Conflict' scored an average of 4.30 (valid), the video 'Giving Compliments and Replying to Compliments' received an average score of 3.81 (quite valid), and the 'Expressing Opinions' video garnered an average score of 3.91 (quite valid). Overall, the average score was 4.10, categorized as valid. Therefore, the Edpuzzle-based video, as a developed English learning medium, was deemed suitable and appropriate for application in listening and speaking classes in Indonesia.
