Abstract

This study is aimed to investigate the interpersonal meaning in students’ explanation texts. Six texts taken from students’ writings were used as the instruments of text analysis. The theories of Systemic Functional Linguistics and explanation text were used as the framework of the text analysis. The findings show that students have employed mood types which are formed by the Subject and Finite as Mood element and predicator and complement as Residue. The arrangement of Subject and Finite in the clauses demonstrates that declarative mood is used dominantly in the texts to realize the speech function of a statement. It suggests that the students have attempted to provide the information to the readers which are relevant to the social function of the explanation text. Moreover, the little use of modality in students’ texts indicates that the students present factual information. This evidence has shown the students’ efforts to position themselves in the texts and to build relationships with the readers. In conclusion, students have been able to create an effective explanation text which is intended to inform how something is done.

Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of the students writing skills. It is believed that writing is a powerful device to reflect language structure and to promote language learning. However, many students still experience difficulties in writing since it requires the appropriate grammatical and textual structures. Therefore, this study tries to analyse the students writing skills that will help them to improve their communicative competence. Data were obtained through documentation of students texts and interviews. The theories of Systemic Functional Linguistics, explanation text, and communicative competence were employed as the framework of the text analysis. The findings revealed the social function, the generic structure, the linguistic features, and also the grammatical and discourse competence in students explanation texts. Abstract

Interpersonal communication patterns or it is commonly called as interpersonal communication is one of the soft skills that students should improve. The low ability of students’ interpersonal communication in a sense may cause problems since students must adapt to the academic environment which will eventually affect their academic achievement. This research is aimed at obtaining a description of the relationship between students’ interpersonal communication patterns with their academic achievement. The deductive method was applied by collecting data through a set of questionnaires which has been tested for its validity and reliability. The respondents of this research were 88 students of Politeknik Manufaktur Bandung. The data were tested using SPPS version 20. in which the correlation technique employed was product moment. The results obtained from testing the significant value table between the interpersonal communication skills and academic achievement variables show that there is a significant relationship between these two variables. This finding also indicates that the higher the increase of the students’ interpersonal communication skills, the higher their academic achievement will be. Further research can be developed by including other variables such as among others motivation, leadership, integrity, teamwork, lifelong learning, flexibility, and demography factors as the independent or mediator variable to get a more comprehensive result.  Keywords: communication skill; interpersonal communication; students’ academic achievement ABSTRAKPola komunikasi antar pribadi atau sering disebut komunikasi interpersonal merupakan salah satu soft skills yang perlu dikembangkan pada mahasiswa. Rendahnya keterampilan komunikasi  interpersonal pada mahasiswa sedikit banyak akan menyebabkan mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan dalan beradaptasi dengan lingkungan perkuliahan yang pada akhirnya akan berpengaruh pada prestasinya.  Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mendapatkan deskripsi tentang hubungan antara pola keterampilan komunikasi interpersonal antar mahasiswa dengan prestasi akademiknya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deduktif dengan pengumpulan data melalui kuesioner yang telah disusun dan dinyatakan valid dan reliabel untuk digunakan. Responden penelitian ini sebanyak 88 orang mahasiswa Politeknik Manufaktur Bandung. Pengujian data menggunakan SPSS versi 20 dimana teknik korelasi yang digunakan adalah product moment. Hasil pengujian berdasarkan tabel nilai signifikansi antara variabel keterampilan komunikasi interpersonal dengan variabel prestasi akademik menunjukkan terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara kedua variabel penelitian. Temuan penelitian ini juga mengindikasikan bahwa semakin meningkat keterampilan komunikasi interpersonal akan semakin meningkat pula prestasi akadenik mahasiswa. Penelitian selanjutnya dapat dikembangkan dengan memasukkan variabel lain dalam penelitian seperti motivasi, kepemimpinan, integritas, kerjasama tim, keinginan untuk terus belajar, fleksibilitas dan faktor demografi sebagai variabel bebas ataupun variabel mediator, sehingga didapatkan hasil yang lebih komprehensif.Kata kunci :  keterampilan komunikasi, komunikasi interpersonal; prestasi akademik mahasiswa

Abstract

This article reports the effectiveness of online teaching and learning in a polytechnic institution. The online teaching and learning during the Covid19 pandemic have made a challenging situation. Moreover, the subjects or courses at Polman Bandung consist of the Theory course (e.g., Maths, English, Strength of Materials) and Practice course (e.g., Technical Drawing, CNC Machine practical program, Bench-work). What happens in the online classroom and its effectiveness should be known and considered by its academic officer. In general, the target to be achieved in this study is to provide an overview of online learning and measure online learning effectiveness in 2020. The research method used is a descriptive study. Data collection was done by distributing questionnaires to the third-grade students who have had or are currently implementing online learning in Theory and Practice courses. There were 231 questionnaire data collected. Besides, semi-structured interviews with students and lecturers were also carried out. The study results show that the teaching and learning effectivity carried online were scored in 3.25 by students (scale 1- 4), meaning it is still inadequate performance. Both Theory and Practice courses were challenging for students and lecturers, but the practice was considered more challenging. Some departments could not hold Practice courses entirely online due to the laboratory tools and machines needed. Therefore, it is recommended that the lecturer improve their online teaching skills and interact more with students in the Theory course and Practice course. The students should better communicate with the lecturers and, most importantly, handle significant learning challenges. Then, the institution should make a better system and program to help the lecturer to teach online.

Abstract

Kondisi pembelajaran di masa pandemi secara nyata mengubah pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang biasanya dilakukan luring menjadi sebagian besar daring. Bagaimana pihak pengguna lulusan merasakan dampak terhadap hal ini perlu dipahami oleh Polman Bandung. Oleh karenanya, perlu dilakukan pengukuran kepuasan pengguna lulusan. Kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini dilakukan dengan membagikan kuesioner kepada para pengguna lulusan. Para responden adalah perusahaan yang memiliki staf lulusan Polman Bandung 3 tahun terakhir. Terdapat 38 pengguna lulusan Polman yang mengisi kuesioner. Setelah itu dilakukan wawancara untuk memvalidasi data. Setelah data ditelaah, dilakukanlah forum group discussion di Polman Bandung yang diikuti 14 peserta dari pihak program studi dan yang berkepentingan lainnya untuk membahas hasil data. Didapatkan bahwa pada aspek softskill, kepemimpinan adalah hal yang perlu untuk diperhatikan karena memiliki gap terbesar (1,03 skala 4). Adapun di sisi hardskill, penguasaan bahasa asing perlu diperhatikan (gap 1,00 skala 4). Didiskusikan pula strategi yang perlu dilakukan untuk melakukan perbaikan untuk peningkatan kompetensi mahasiswa yang ditulis dalam dokumen resmi untuk disampaikan pada pimpinan. Hal ini merupakan umpan balik bagi Polman Bandung untuk proses perbaikan. Pada akhirnya, diharapkan lulusan berikutnya akan menjadi lebih baik lagi kualitasnya. Hal ini tentu akan berdampak positif bagi masyarakat pengguna lulusan yang merupakan mitra pendidikan tinggi politeknik yang penting.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview of the use of instructional media during online learning from vocational higher education students' perspectives. The education system in the vocational institution focuses on practical activities, so the use of instructional media during online learning faces various problems. Online learning is believed to be effective if there is a two-way interaction between lecturers and students in class using effective instructional media. This research was conducted to look into the students' perception of using online instructional media. With a sample of 181 students, this study employed a descriptive quantitative method. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires through Google Forms consisting of 17 questions with a Likert scale. In addition, semi-structured interviews with students were carried out for data triangulation. The results showed that the student perception of using instructional media during online learning is good, with an average score of 3.15 (Scale of 1- 4). The students perceived that instructional media during online learning increases their confidence and competence in learning, and their awareness of mastering a subject matter increased slightly, primarily in theoretical subjects. However, in practical classes, students still experienced problems due to the need for hands-on training. Therefore, the institution must provide a technological trend for lecturers and students, improve the teachers' competence in online instructional media, and improve software and equipment facilities that encourage and support the online learning process for more effective implementation.

Abstract

Program Penyuluhan Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS) merupakan salah satu metode yang bisa diterapkan bagi kegiatan peningkatan tingkat kesehatan masyarakat di seluruh tatanan kehidupan. Namun, berbagai penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kesehatan masyarakat Indonesia masih berada pada kategori rendah. Hal ini terutama disebabkan oleh kondisi lingkungan yang kurang sehat, faktor perilaku masyarakat yang tidak peduli dengan lingkungan sekitarnya, serta sulitnya memperoleh pasokan air bersih bagi warga dikarenakan belum adanya fasilitas yang memadai terutama berkenaan dengan pendistribusian air bersih tersebut. Adapun tujuan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan penyuluhan hidup bersih dan sehat kepada masyarakat untuk menjaga kesehatan diri dan lingkungan hidup sekitar serta pembuatan rancang bangun pendistribusian air bersih. Sasaran kegiatan ini adalah masyarakat Kp. Koropeak Ds. Ciela Kab. Garut. Metode yang digunakan diawali dengan observasi dan sosialisasi perilaku hidup sehat, bimbingan dan penyuluhan, kerja bakti lingkungan, serta pembuatan rancang bangun pendistribusian air bersih. Penyuluhan hidup bersih dan sehat pada masyarakat Kp. Koropeak Desa Ciela sangat bermanfaat dan memberikan dampak dalam peningkatan derajat kesehatan masyarakat, pengetahuan masyarakat tentang Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat dan kesadaran akan pentingnya PHBS, serta peningkatan kesadaran dalam menjaga kebersihan lingkungan sebagai bentuk pemberdayaan masyarakat untuk mencapai kualitas kesehatan yang lebih baik. Penerapan teknologi di bidang sistem pendistribusian air bersih dapat meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat di Kp. Koropeak Desa Ciela karena terpenuhinya kebutuhan air bersih warga dengan efisiensi waktu dan tenaga. Pemasangan sistem distribusi air otomatis dapat meningkatkan efisiensi pemenuhan tempat penampungan air 500L hanya dalam 10-15 menit dengan debit air 0,67L/detik.

Abstract

ABSTRAKSIMATIC WinCC V7 merupakan sistem visualisasi SCADA yang digunakan untuk kontrol dan monitoring proses pada sistem SCADA Modular Production System (MPS) yang merupakan prototype dalam simulasi produksi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengimplementasikan software SIMATIC WinCC V7 dengan metode protokol komunikasi TCP/IP pada sistem SCADA plant Testing Station dan Separating Station. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan HMI SIMATIC WinCC V7 berhasil melakukan pengendalian dan pemantauan plant Testing dan Separating. Waktu delay transfer data PLC (Testing Station) ke PC (WinCC) yaitu 102 ms dan waktu delay transfer data PC (WinCC) ke PLC (Testing Station) yaitu 84 ms. Selain itu, dapat disimpulkan juga bahwa waktu delay transfer data PLC (Separating Station) ke PC (WinCC) yaitu 95 ms dan waktu delay transfer data PC (WinCC) ke PLC (Separating Station) yaitu 66 ms.Kata kunci: Modular Production System, PLC, Protokol TCP/IP, SCADA, SIMATIC WinCC V7. ABSTRACTSIMATIC WinCC V7 is a SCADA visualization system used for control and process monitoring on the SCADA Modular Production System (MPS) system which is a prototype in production simulation. This study aims to implement the SIMATIC WinCC V7 software with the TCP/IP Protocol method on the SCADA plant Testing Station and Separating Station systems. The test results show that the SIMATIC WinCC V7 HMI has succeeded in controlling and monitoring Plant Testing and Separating. The delay time for PLC (Testing Station) data transfer to a PC (WinCC) is 102 ms and the delay time for PC data transfer (WinCC) to a PLC (Testing Station) is 84 ms. Besides that, it can also be concluded that the delay time for PLC (Separating Station) data transfer to a PC (WinCC) is 95 ms and the delay time for PC data transfer (WinCC) to PLC (Separating Station) is 66 ms.Keywords: Modular Production System, PLC, TCP/IP Protocol, SCADA, SIMATIC WinCC V7.
