Abstract

Penelitian    ini    bertujuan    untuk:    (1)    mengidentifikasi    dan   menganalisis    kompetensi-kompetensi    dan    topik-topik    yang   harus    dicapai    oleh    mahasiswa    dalam    pembelajaran    English for FB Service yang    mencakup    mengembangkan    tema    dan   subtema    yang    dapat    dimasukkan    ke    dalam    bahan    ajar;   dan    mengembangkan    jenis    dan    bentuk    asesmen    yang   dapat    digunakan    untuk    mengukur    ketercapaian    masingmasing   kompetensi    yang    telah    dirumuskan;    (2)    mendesain    prototype bahan ajar berbasis e-learning untuk mata kuliah English for FB Service;   dan    (3)    mengetahui    kualitas/validitas    bahan    ajar    yang   dikembangkan.    Desain    utama    dari    penelitian    ini    adalah   penelitian    dan    pengembangan    (Research and Development). Pentingnya    dan    keutamaan    dari    penelitian    ini,    yaitu    upaya   dalam    meningkatkan    pemahaman    mahasiswa dalam mata kuliah English for FB Service,    pengembangan    kurikulum    dan    material development, dan    kontribusi    dalam    pengembangan    e-learning   dalam    pembelajaran.    Data    penelitian    dianalisis    secara   kualitatif.    Hasil    penelitian    menunjukkan    bahwa    ada    13   kompetensi    yang    harus    dikuasai    mahasiswa    dalam   pembelajaran    English for FB Service    dan    13    topik-topik    yang   dikembangkan.    Uji    validasi    produk    menunjukkan    tingkat   validasi    dalam    kategori    sangat    tinggi    yang    berarti    bahwa   produk    penelitian    ini    sudah    siap    dipakai.    Kata kunci: bahan ajar, English for FB Service, e-learning

Abstract

This study reports the implementation of ICT-based learning materials using Blendspace in phonology classes. The ICT-based learning material was developed in the academic year of 2016/2017. The study was conducted in two stages. The rst stage was the validation of the teaching material by two expert judges. The second stage was trying out of the teaching material in the classroom using classroom action research. The learning material developed has been validated by experts using a checklist as an instrument, which has been analysed using the Gregory formula. The expert judges showed that the content validity of the learning material is 90.9%, which means very valid. In order to test the effectiveness of the learning material, it has been implemented in phonology classes joined by the second-semester Diploma III students of the English Department of Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha, using classroom action research. Based on the teaching and learning process using the material, more than 70% of the students obtained scores between 76 and 100. Fewer than 30% of the students had scores below 75. Therefore, the learning material is considered effective for learning phonology.

Abstract

The demands of English speaking workers in tourism and travel industry in Bali is increasing and this leads to the increase of the number of vocational learning and training for Tourism. However, more attention is given to the source culture (English culture) rather than the target culture (local culture) in most teaching materials. English for Tourism (under the  course name English for Tour and Travel), an ESP in English Education Department Undiksha,  has the same problem. Students learn English to talk to visitors who come to their country, but they are not expected to travel to target countries or to learn about target cultures while the textbook used focus more on the target culture. A new design of teaching material based on local culture is then needed. This paper reports an on-going project which aims at designing teaching materials based on local culture for English Tour and Travel. The development is carried out in three major stages. The paper draws on the data of the first stage that has been completed, and discusses the needs of the the EED students learning English for Tour and Travel based on local culture in several aspects: tourism topics, language functions, language skills, and local culture. It highlights the learners’ needs in the eyes of students, tourism practitioners and lecturers and discusses the implications of these on the design of the English for Tour and Travel teaching material.

Abstract

Studies concerning the use of attitude resources in students’ writing have been conducted by researchers. However, limited attention has been given to investigate how resources of attitude are used in a hybrid genre, such as blog. This paper aims at reporting how attitude resources are realized in students’ tourism blogs. 10 tourism blogs written by the seventh-semester students of English Education Department, taking English for Tourism course were purposively selected as the source of data. These data were chosen because their topics were about tourist attractions in Bali. The data were analyzed by following appraisal language analysis theory. The results show that appreciation and affect resources were used by the students in their blogs. However, the resources used by the students were basic and repetitive words. This study suggests English instructors provide explicit teaching of attitudinal words that the students can use when they are writing tourism blogs.

Abstract

During pandemic, almost all school activities rely on the use of technology. Teachers are expected to teach using the online platforms. This study aims at analyzing the readiness of English high school teachers who are categorized into Gen X in integrating technology in teaching, by using TPACK framework.  The study applies a descriptive qualitative design. Research subjects were 58 Gen X English high school teachers in one province in Indonesia. Data were collected by distributing online questionnaire to the teachers. Data analysis of triangulation was conducted by doing semi-structured interviews to volunteered teachers. The findings revealed that the Gen X teachers were not ready to integrate teaching with technology. Of all seven integration variables in TPACK, the first level knowledge bases are responded positively. When it comes to the second and third level knowledge bases, the teachers’ responses tend to decrease. Some problems in the technology integration were revealed during the interview. Trainings of teachers’ professionalism for teachers from generation X are considered necessary, especially training on the use of technology and the internet in learning. ICT curriculum integration is also an important issue. Finally, limitations and implications for the education authorities and future research were discussed.
