Several conceptions of convergent and divergent thinking are being compared to determine the superior one. However, lateral thinking has emerged, blending convergent and divergent thinking whose potentials impact High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). This conceptual writing aimed to describe the practice of lateral thinking skills in ELT situations. Furthermore, its role in promoting HOTS was discussed, especially in modern classrooms. A library research design was used to gather primary data through literature reviews. The examinations were done qualitatively; triangulated for more reliability and compelling. The findings reveal that lateral thinking is most commonly delivered on a problem-based learning model, which might be utilized to encourage students to think beyond the box in the future. Lateral thinking is also adaptable and applicable in various settings and courses. It is anticipated that practicing lateral thinking in the modern classroom would significantly impact students' problem-solving skills, discover new solutions, create discoveries and breakthroughs. It is highly suggested that both teachers and students employ lateral thinking to ensure that HOTS is trained to its full potential.

This article reports the community service project on the implementation of a training model specially designed for alumni of English Education Department (hereafter, EED), Ganesha University of Education. The gradual increase of student body in EED has been found to have a direct effect on the longer waiting time for employment. It is common that they work as part time English instructors in private English courses while waiting for permanent employment. This kind of job has been considered temporal and it is unlikely to be taken seriously. Private English courses that provide general English tuitions are abundant, therefore, to be competitive the training follows a 100-hour English for Specific Purposes (hereafter, ESP) model. The materials involve 8 ESP packages that comprise English for Policeman, for Banking, for Hotel Restaurant, Tour Guides, for Secretary, for Public Relation, and for Art shop attendants and Street Vendors. They also learn about course management and conducting fun classroom activities. All the trainers are experienced human resources in the fields. The project results in 8 material packages and strong motivation of the alumni to start entrepreneurship in ESP courses

Speaking as the most demanding skill to be mastered in the ESL/EFL teaching context. This is caused by the prime priority of students who want to study English in order to be able to use English for communicative purposes. Knowledge of language functions has a vital role in supporting a speaker to be more involved in the real interaction. The aim of this study is to analyze the use of language functions in the speaking for academic purposes course. This study conducted at the English department students which altogether 33 persons in STKIP Santu Paulus Ruteng, Indonesia. Then data were collected through observation, field note and natural recorded when the respondents were doing the English speaking exercises at the speaking for academic purposes course. Data collection were done during eight meetings and only language functions utterances of those respondents were analyzed. The utterances recorded are expected to be representative of the whole the language functions. Utterances produced by respondents were recorded precisely by the researchers. The result showed that there are five types of language functions found, namely interactive function, informative function, manipulative function, motivative function and directive functions. Those functions are reciprocal. Speaking practitioners are suggested to provide the knowledge of language functions in the speaking learning process.

The study is aimed at describing the level of understanding and use of the bamboo and coconut tree lexicons which refer to both the entity and its derivatives by Using ethnic community and the factors that become the background. To cope with the research problems ecolinguistic theory was applied. The data were collected by using observation, interview and documentation methods supported by recording technique and questionnaires. Results of the data analysis are presented with formal and informal methods of deductive and inductive techniques, The results of analysis indicate that the level of respondents’ understanding and use on the lexicons of bamboo and coconut trees vary. The level of understanding and use of these two generic lexicons reaches 100% for all respondents while for specific lexicons and its derivatives, the understanding and use seem to vary. The lexicons which reference entities have a high usefulness, interaction, interrelation and interdependency, the level of understanding and use is also high. Inspite of its numerous entity population, the population of entities seem much but if the lexicon does not have the benefit on the lives of the respondents, the level of understanding of the lexicon can be high but usage levels are low, particularly for juvenile respondents. In addition, there are a number of lexicon with a usage rate of 0% among the juvenile respondents. It happened on the lexicon of equipment made of bamboo which has a rare or endangered reference entity because its function is replaced by another entity. Meanwhile, the factors that cause differences in the level of intergenerational understanding and use level of the lexicon of bamboo and coconut trees include (1) little population of entities; (2) less interaction, interrelation and interdependence on the reference entities; (3) some UL lexicon are replaced by other language lexicons; (4) the absence of transfer of knowledge of the reference entity from the predecessor generation; (5) the function of the reference entity is replaced by another entity function; and (6) the level of understanding and use of the respondent only at the level of generic lexicon.

Penelitian ini merupakan bagian dari penelitian yang lebih besar yang bertujuan untuk mengungkap fenomena variasi bahasa suami dan istri dalam melakukan percakapan. Data dikumpulkan terhadap 40 pasang suami istri yang tinggal di Kabupaten Buleleng. Data yang terkumpul berupa data percakapan dan dianalisis dengan pendekatan sosiolinguistik interaksional. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan adanya kecendrungan bahwa ada perbedaan variasi bahasa antara suami dan istri. Kata kunci : variasi bahasa ,gender Abstract This study is a part of another study aiming at describing the phenomena of language variations of husbands and wives in conducting daily conversations. The data were collected from 40 coupless who live in Buleleng regency. Tn he data which in the forms of conversations were analized using an interactinal sociolinguistics approach. The result of anlaysis shows that there is a tendency that there are different language variations between husbands and wives.

The 21st-century learning outcomes are essential to be achieved by the students nowadays. A lesson plan is one of the mediums used to insert the skills of the 21st century, which needed to be improved by the students. This study examined English teachers’ readiness in inserting the 21st-century skills in planning the lesson in the city area and suburb area of Badung Regency. This study belonged to a case study and was conducted using a sequential embedded mixed-method, in which mixed the quantitative results with qualitative results to get more valid data. A questionnaire consisted of 17 items used to know the readiness of English teachers, combined with the results on document analysis. Based on the results of the investigation, it showed inconsistent answers of English teachers in the city area and suburb area based on the results on questionnaire and document analysis. English teachers perceived they were ready to insert the 21st-century skills but, based on results on document analysis, it showed English teachers mostly added learning and innovation skills and information, media, and technology skills in the lesson plan. It is suggested English teachers should be more ready by looking up at the standardization of the 21st-century education then combined it with attending seminars on related topics about the implementation of the 21st-century skills.

Kurikulum 2013 membutuhkan insersi pendidikan karakter dan integrasi teknologi. Penitian ini bertujuan untuk 1) mengidentifikasi karakteristik dari multimedia interaktif berbasis karakter, 2)menjelaskan proses perancangan multimedia interaktif berbasis karakter, 3) menjelaskan produk multimedia interaktif berbasis karakter, dan 4) menjelaskan kualitas multimedia interaktif berbasis karakter. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian dan Pengembangan yang menggunakan pendekatan metode campuran, sequential exploratory design, dan Four-D model.

This study was carried out to explore the teachers’ perception toward their creativity in teaching, to observe their creativity in teaching, and to describe the discrepancy between the teachers’ perception and the observed implementation. The study used embedded mixed method as the research design where the qualitative data were dominant and used as the primary data, while the quantitative data were used as the supportive data. SMK Negeri 1 Bangli was chosen as the research setting. Two English teachers were selected as the research subjects. There were two questionnaires which were used to collect the data: the self-rated questionnaire and classroom observation sheet. Then, the data were respectively analyzed, quantitatively and qualitatively. The interview was conducted to elaborate the result of the analyzed data. The results reveal that 1) the teachers perceive themselves as creative in implementing their creativity in teaching; 2) the teachers are observed as slightly creative in implementing the creativity in the actual teaching process 3) there is a discrepancy between the teachers’ perception and the implementation toward their creativity in teaching.

Penelitian tindakan kelas ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) penguasaan kosakata bahasa Jepang siswa dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran kooperatif teknik two stay two stray, (2) respon siswa kelas XI Bahasa SMA Negeri 2 Tejakula terhadap penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif teknik two stay two stray. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI Bahasa SMA Negeri 2 Tejakula tahun ajaran 2015/2016, sebanyak 39 orang. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan observasi, tes, dan angket. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik deskriptif kualitatif dan deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif teknik two stay two stray dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata bahasa Jepang siswa. Ini diketahui berdasarkan hasil penelitian, terjadi peningkatan nilai rata-rata kelas dari pre-test sebesar 60.3, kemudian pada post-test I menjadi 78.8, dan pada post-test II menjadi 89,1. (2) Siswa memberikan respon positif terhadap penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif teknik two stay two stray. Sebagian besar siswa merasa terbantu dalam kegiatan pembelajaran, siswa menjadi semangat dalam belajar, siswa merasa adanya peningkatan penguasaan kosakata bahasa Jepang dengan menggunakan teknik ini.Kata Kunci : model pembelajaran kooperatif, teknik TSTS, penguasaan kosakata bahasa Jepang 本研究は教育実践活動である。具体的に本研究の目的は:(1)TSTSを使用したグループ学習法における学習者の日本語語彙力、(2)同学習法を使用した際の学習者の反応を明らかにすることである。研究の対象は、2015年度公立テジャクラ第二高等学校言語コース11年生の39名である。データは、観察テスト、およびアンケートにより収集し、定性的、定量的記述法により分析した。結果、(1)TSTSを使用するグループ学習法は、当校学習者の日本語語彙力を高められた。これは、予備テストの平均点が60.3点、標準を超えた者の割合は5%であったのに対し、第一周期終了時のそれは78.8点、51%、第二周期終了時のそれは89.1点、100%に上昇したことが分かった。(2)学習者のこの学習法に対する反応は良好であった。本研究を通して多くの学習者は、この学習法が役立つと考え、学習に積極的に参加し日本語語彙力が向上したと感じている。keyword : グループ学習法、TSTSゲーム、日本語語彙力

Penelitian ini bertujuan (1) untuk mengetahui peningkatan kosakata bahasa Jepang pada siswa kelas XI Bahasa 2 SMA Karya Wisata melalui penerapan teknik permainan alphabet race dan (2) untuk mengetahui respon siswa kelas XI bahasa 2 SMA Karya Wisata terhadap penerapan teknik permainan alphabet race dalam pembelajaran kosakata bahasa Jepang. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilaksanakan dalam menggunakan dua siklus. Subyek penelitian adalah siswa kelas XI Bahasa 2 SMA Karya Wisata tahun ajaran 2016/2017, sebanyak 48 orang. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode (1) observasi, (2) tes, (3) kuesioner, dan (4) wawancara. Data yang diperoleh selanjutnya dianalisis dengan teknik deskriptif-kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian pada tes penguasaan kosakata bahasa Jepang dalam penerapan teknik permainan alphabet race menunjukkan bahwa (1) terjadi peningkatan persentase ketuntasan kelas sebesar 85,4% pada siklus I menjadi 100% pada siklus II. Berdasarkan penelitian tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan teknik permainan alphabet race dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata bahasa Jepang siswa kelas XI Bahasa 2 SMA Karya Wisata, (2) siswa merasakan manfaat dari penerapan teknik permainan alphabet race dalam pembelajaran kosakata bahasa Jepang, yaitu pembelajaran menjadi lebih menyenangkan dan penguasaan kosakata menjadi lebih baik. Kata Kunci : permainan alphabet race, penguasaan kosakata, bahasa Jepang 本論の目的は、(1)2016年度カリヤウィサタ観光実業高等学校言語コース11年生2組の「アルファベット・レース」を使用するゲーム学習法による日本語語彙力の向上、(2)当校学習者がこの学習法を使用した際の反応を明らかにすることである。本論は、2周期に渡る教室実践活動調査である。対象は、2016年度カリヤウィサタ観光実業高等学校11年2組の48名である。データは、テスト、アンケート、インタビューにより収集し、それを定性的定量的記述法により分析したものである。この結果、(1)このゲーム学習法使用後の標準値を越えた学習者の割合は、第1周期終了後が85,4%、第2周期終了後には100%に達した。このことより、このゲーム学習法は学習者の日本語語彙力を向上させることができる。(2)学習者は、この学習法が有効であると感じている。これは、授業が一層興味深いものとなり、単語力が向上したと考えていることからいえる。keyword : 「アルファベット・レース」ゲーム、語彙力、日本語
