Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the community structure and distribution pattern of Gastropods in the mangrove ecosystem Bolihutuo village. The study was conducted in February and July 2021 in two different stations. Community structure analysis carried out includes species composition, density, diversity, evenness, dominance, and distribution patterns by Morisita dispersion index. The results showed that 13 species of gastropods were found from 8 families, namely Cassidula nucleus, Littoraria palescens, Chicoreus capucinus, Nasarius distortus and Phrontis polygonata, Nerita planospira, Faunus ater, Pirenella alata, Cerithidea obtuse, Telescopium Telescopium, Terebralia palustris, Terebralia sulcata and Monodonta labio. Gastropod diversity of each station in June was relatively higher than observations in February. The distribution of Gastropods has a clustered, random, and uniform pattern. Keywords: Bolihutuo, Community structure, distribution pattern, Gastropods, Mangrove

Abstract

The increasing of sea level due to climate change has been focused many research activities in order to know the coastal response to the change, and determine the important variables which have contribution to the coastal change. This paper presents a method for integrating Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI), Multi Criteria Analysis (MCA) method and Geographic Information-System (GIS) technology to map the coastal vulnerability. The index is calculated based-on six variables: coastal erosion, geomorphology, slope, significant wave height, sea level change and tidal range. Emphasize has been made to the methodological aspect, essentially which is linked to: (i) the use of GIS technique for constructing, interpolation, filtering and resampling the data for shoreline grid, (ii) the standardization each rank of variables (0-1) and the use of several percentile (20%, 40%, 60%, and 80%) for each rank score, and (iii) the use of variable’s rank to map the relative (local) and standard (global) vulnerability of the coastline. The result show that for local, the index consist of four categories: very high (19.61%), high (68.63%), moderate (1,96%), and low (9.80%). Meanwhile, for global level, the index is constantly in low category.

Abstract

Omuto Village is one of the villages located in the Biau sub-district, Gorontalo Regency. To the north is Tapalu Village, Tenilo, Biau Village, to the east by Didingga Village, to the south by Potanga Village, the West to contigous with Molangga Village. The livelihoods of the people of Omuto Village are Farmers. Corn processing is still limited to processing for traditional foods such as milu siram. This type of traditional food has a low shelf life at a low selling price. Most of the corn commodities in Omuto Village are marketed in primary form (fresh corn) or shelled dry maize with a low selling value. This program of KKS Service activities aims to increase the added value of corn through the diversification of processed food. The target of this activity is so that the target group can acquire skills in processing various kinds of products made from corn, so that gradually they are motivated to develop businesses with a commercial-business mindset. This KKS Service activity will be carried out from September to October 2020. The technique used to socialize innovations in the field of food processing technology to the public is through communicative learning through training activities. Efforts to empower the community in Omuto Village are carried out by providing guidance and transfer of knowledge. technical skills and how to process corn commodities into processed products in the form of home industries

Abstract

Sampling based on the distribution of mangrove that formed two areas so that the research station was made into two. The placement of line transects is determined based on the horizontal distribution. Stasion I is made up of two transect line and Station II is made up of three uniform transect lines. The distance between the transect is determined based on the waste found in the mangrove on land so that it becomes the starting point for drawing transect lines from land to sea. Sampling used a 10x10 m2 quadrant with a distance between the quadrants of 10 m. observations showed that the composition of macro debris in the mangrove ecosisytem area produced three large group of waste: plastic, plastic foam, glass and ceramics. The most dominant waste is plastic, while the least quantity is glass and ceramics.keywords: Marine debris, Mangrove, Bolihutuo.

Abstract

The concentration of three heavy metals Pb, Cd and Hg ware measured in Bone River, Gorontalo sediment. The heavy metal pollution on sediment in Bone River have not been explored longitudinally. The samples were taken in July 2021 at 8 stations.  The trend of metals ware observed in sediment as PbCdHg. The level of studied metals Cd and Hg did not exceed the safe limit by ANZECC, OSQG LEL and CCME TEL meanwhile Pb was met the limit by by ANZECC. However, the investigated showed that fluctuations due to differences in the characteristics of each location. Contamination factor (CF) and geoaccumulation index (Igeo) demonstrated that the sediment samples were low contamination and lightly polluted. Contamination by heavy metals in the Bone River implies that the conditions are much frightening for the biota and residents around the river.

Abstract

Coastal areas are important for economic activities, but are also vulnerable to environmental changes caused by human activities. The use of remote sensing technology can assist in efficient and accurate monitoring of coastline changes related to the spatial-temporal dynamics of coastlines in local areas, which is needed in the development of effective coastal management strategies. By applying the Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI) method for coastline extraction, the research results show that the addition of coastal areas (accretion) as a dominant process in coastal stability in almost all coastal areas of Gorontalo City during the period 2000-2022, has experienced the significantly accelerated trend during the 2015-2022 period with an increase in the accretion rate of 60.15%. The rate of accretion in this period has caused an increase in the land area of coastal areas by 425.44% compared to the accretion that occurred during the 2000-2015 period. The findings of this research can be used as a basis for further research regarding the impact of human activities on coastal ecosystems and the effectiveness of Gorontalo City's coastal management strategies.

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) determine the existing condition of Langge Village's mangroves and their utilization, 2) analyze stakeholders, the influence and mapping of co-management, and 3) analyze the form of co-management, roles, and responsibilities of stakeholders towards mangrove management in Langge Village. This research was conducted in August-November 2021. Mangrove vegetation data was collected using the line transect method; while the stakeholder data collection is done by open interviews. The data obtained from mangrove vegetation are frequency and density; while the stakeholders are in the form of interests, influence, implementation of co-management, and the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders. Based on this study, 16 species of true mangroves were found at 3 observation stations from Avicennia, Bruguiera, Ceriops, Rhizophora, Sonneratia, and Xylocarpus groups. Mangrove management in Langge Village is at the Advisory Committee stage or the advocacy stage. Keywords: Co-Management, stakeholders, management, mangrove
