Abstract

This research investigates the ideology of Trump on his speech about Jerusalem. This research was aimed to analyze illocutionary acts and the ideology of Trump.. This research used qualitative approach. The design of this research is Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). This research used Fairclough’s three models of CDA, those are textual analysis, discursive practice and social practice The result that showed that there are five types of illocutionary acts expressed, those are representatives, directives, commissives, expressives and declaratives. Representatives was mostly expressed by Trump. Therefore, the result showed that Trump expressed all types of illocutionary act. The ideology on the speech about Jerusalem showed that Trump intended to use his power to create peace in Jerusalem.

Abstract

This research investigated the ideology of Donald Trump on his speech at the Israel museum. This research focused on analysing illocutionary acts to discover the ideology of Trump on his speech. This research used qualitative approach. The design of this research is Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). This research used Fairclough’s three models of CDA, namely: textual analysis, discursive practice and social practice The result that showed there were five types of illocutionary acts expressed, those are representatives, directives, commissives, expressives and declaratives. Representatives was mostly expressed by Trump. Therefore, the result showed that Trump expressed all types of illocutionary act. The ideology on the speech at the Israel museum showed that Trump intended to use his power to create peace in Jerusalem.

Abstract

This research focused on how the ideology can be revealed from the headline news which focus on its lexical choice that hide the meaning. This study used an online media news which published on Detik.com that has the headline Punya Garis Pantai Terpanjang di Dunia, Kok RI Impor Garam? As the mind object. This object also focused on its discourse as the mind media of analysis and the headline used as the point of view through the news. To analyse the object the researcher used critical discourse analysis by Van Dijk as the mind approach in analysing the discourse through the news and also supported in metafunction by Halliday which concern on ideological metafunction to help revealing the ideology.The study used qualitative as the design of analysis, it needed to describe the data. The aim of doing the research was to come up the ideology that hidden behind the headline of news. The issue was controversially and it would be the grand topic to be analysed. From the analysis known that the discourse of the news could build contradictive perspective between the headlines through the whole of discourse. That perspective came from the discourse which has been selected in its lexical and composing the pattern of sentences.

Abstract

This study scrutinizes the common types of directive speech act performed by the teacher in the form of written feedback along with its function classification. Descriptive qualitative was used as the research design. For data collection, observation and documentation were used to obtain utterances performed by the speaker. In this regard, one English lecturer at one of universities in Indonesia was chosen teaching one class under the subject of Advanced Reading. Then, thematic analysis was used to analyze and categorize the data set. There were 81 number of data found from this study as directive speech act in the teacher feedback. This study revealed that direct acts were dominant with 50 data while the indirect acts consisted of 31 data. Furthermore, out of six (6) types of directive speech acts, the findings demonstrated that the function of requestives and questions were the most frequent acts performed by the teacher in the feedback. The result of this study suggested that the further research may take account into different criteria of giving feedback, such as the other types of speech acts, the teacher gender, and the subject of the class.

Abstract

Motivation has been considered the most contributing factor to the success of language learning. Motivation has some factors that affect the high or low scale of the motivation. Parents' support, for instance, claimed that parents involve the students' motivation, then what if the students who do not have parents or called as the orphan? This study scrutinizes the comparison of the orphan and non orphan student’s motivation.The design of this study was quantitative design, in which the study examined the difference between orphan and non-orphan students in terms of motivation in learning English as measured by questionnaire response scores. An Independent t-test was computed to answer research question. The participants involved in this study were a hundred students from the secondary level, including junior high school (n=66) and senior high school (n=34) participating in this study fifty (n=50) the students were orphans, and fifty (n=50) others were non-orphan.The result of the research question demonstrates that non-orphan Indonesian EFL  learners had higher individual motivation and social motivation in learning English compared to orphan learners for individual motivation and social motivation. Since, the orphan has a lower motivation, the reasons for that phenomenon can be a potential further study.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada pronomina penunjuk tempat saja. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan fungsi sintaksis yang dimiliki pronomina penunjuk tempat dalam bahasa Jawa Mataraman. Berkaitan dengan tujuan tersebut, jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan elisitasi menggunakan gambar pada tanggal 26 Februari 2023 di Dusun Sumber, Kelurahan Kanigoro, Kabupaten Blitar. Melalui dua informan dengan inisial NP dan S, peneliti menemukan data-data berupa klausa dan kalimat yang dituturkan berdasarkan gambar yang disediakan. Data tersebut kemudian dianalisis dengan metode analisis tematik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa satu-satunya fungsi yang dimiliki oleh pronomina penunjuk tempat adalah fungsi keterangan. Bentuk pronomina yang ditemukan adalah kene, kono, dan kɔnɔ. Adapun pronomina ‘rene’ sebagai variasi dari ‘kene’ tidak memerlukan preposisi dalam pengucapannya karena telah memiliki makna alamiah ‘ke sini’ menurut kamus Bausastra.
