Abstract

This study aims to determine the various effect of heat input due to varied electric current on microstructure of the weld joints and the bending strength of 2 dissimilar metals (aluminum alloy 5052 and galvanized steel) with Al-Si 4043 as filler. This experimental research was worked out by varying the strength of the current which can then be calculated into a heat input. The current inputs applied were 30.8 J / mm (70A), 35.2 J / mm (80A) and 39.6 J / mm (90A) while the protective gas flow rate used is 14 liters / minute. This study showed that the increase in heat input greatly affects the shape of the weld area microstructure, i.e. the microstructure and bending strength. Greater heat input due to higher current can melt larger area, so that the join process occured better. The highest bending strength at 9.05 Mpa was achieved for heat input at 39.6 J / mm or strong current of 90 A. The weakest bending strength at 8.88 Mpa was achieved for heat input at 35.2 J / mm or a strong current of 70 A.

Abstract

The methods of joining engineering materials using adhesives is mostly implemented by using synthetic adhesives from non-renewable sources. Even though it has good joining performance, its poisonous nature and difficult to decompose naturally makes the adhesive needs to seek alternatives that are more environmentally friendly. Another reason is to support FAO campaigns for the use of environmentally friendly and biodegradable materials. One that has the potential to replace synthetic one is adhesives from natural sources such as gum rubber, jackfruit, and breadfruit. Because each natural sap has a different composition, the adhesive strength will also be different. Therefore it is necessary to examine the adhesive strength of each of these natural gums. In this research, natural adhesives (gums) and synthetic adhesives were used to joint pine wood as a test specimen. After joining, peeling and shearing tests on the specimens were carried out so that the mechanical strength of the joints for each adhesive variation was recognized. Fracture analysis was then performed to analyze the mechanism of joint failure for each adhesive variation. From this research, the highest peeling strength was obtained from rubber tree sap of 0.15 MPa, while the highest shearing strength was also obtained for rubber sap of 0.68 MPa.

Abstract

Lighter construction in the structure of transportation make industries rely on aluminium as construction materials and new technology of joining such as friction stir welding become increasingly applied. Since welding force in the process is considered high so that many researches are focussed on this area. In this research, a new method of welding by using non-rotating shoulder tool and combined with pre heating was investigated. The result give confirmation that the methods was proven to be adequate to produce sound welding when the parameters chosen was rightly. Eventhough the method was able to lower the force but significant results only observed for Fx while another force, i.e. Fz, did not have similar significant results. Non-rotating shoulder with additional heat input has limited capability in lowering forces in Fz because of its design, while has very good capability to lower Fx. Also, it was obvious that the heat source using propane torch was not adequate to give uniform additional heat input in all welding phase and still need another moee porent heat source in order to improve the performance.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of microwave oven heating power on pineapple leaf fiber on the tensile strength of epoxy matrix composites. In this study, the composite reinforcement used was pineapple leaf fiber without treatment and pineapple leaf fiber heated using a microwave oven with 250W, 440W, and 715W power for 15 minutes after being given 6% NaOH immersion for 2 hours. The composite manufacturing method used is the vacuum assisted resin infusion method. Tensile testing was carried out on pineapple leaf fiber reinforced composite specimens according to ASTM D638-01 standard. The results showed that the higher the heating power of the microwave oven, the higher the tensile strength of the composite due to the better adhesion between the fiber and the epoxy matrix. The highest tensile strength was obtained in the pineapple leaf fiber-reinforced composite with a heating power of 715W of 147.9 MPa, then heating with a power of 440W of 136.6 MPa, heating with a power of 250W of 125.5 MPa, and the lowest on specimens of pineapple leaf fiber composite without treatment of 107.1 MPa. In addition, the SEM results also show that the surface roughness of the fiber increases with the addition of heating power and the wettability results also show that the wettability between the fiber and the epoxy matrix is getting better as the heating power of the microwave oven increases.

Abstract

In the chatter, machining operations are undesirable because of the phenomena that affect product results, machining accuracy, tool life, and high operating value. Chatter is a vibration phenomenon that occurs in cutting tools due to the self-excitation of the influence of cutting parameters during the operation process of the machine. Types of chatter in machinery are regenerative and resonant. Because the pitch angles of variable helix tools vary, the helix angles of variable tools produce different tooth passing frequencies on each tool eye next to each other and can be used to prevent and control resonance. This study aimed to compare chatter control from the variable helix and regular-angle tools in the aluminum end milling process. The method is carried out through the end milling process experiment to determine the chatter control of the variable helix and regular-angle tools through the stability loop diagram. The results from this study were obtained by comparing control chatters in the milling process through controlling variable and standard helix angles as a guideline to produce the best surface roughness in the end milling process made from aluminum. The comparison of estimated control charts from variable helix tools is more comprehensive than regular helix tools.

Abstract

At Taman Embong Anyar 1 Housing Complex in Dau District, Malang, there is a high crime risk due to residents' activity patterns and open access to residential areas. One of the community's biggest issues is a lack of understanding of using security technology. As an alternative to monitoring the situation in residential areas, CCTV installation and operation assistance are needed to increase environmental security. Beginning with a survey of the areas where CCTV must be installed, the CCTV system must then be selected, installed, and its operation explained to all users. The residents can use and maintain the CCTV system as a result of the entire series of activities. The environment is made more secure and the workload of security officers is minimized with the installation of CCTV.
