Abstract

This research aimed to see the effectiveness of using Wordlist plus picture in increasing students’ stock of vocabulary at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 2 Tenga. This research used pre- experimental designed with one group pre-test and post-test. The result of this research found that Wordlist plus picture was effective in increasing students’ stock of vocabulary. The result showed that post-test was higher than pre-test. The mean score of pre-test was 5.00 and the mean score of post-test is 7.25 which means that the result of the post-test is higher than the pre-test. It can be stated that the students’ stock of vocabulary at the seventh grade of SMP N 2 Tenga is high in the post-test. So, it means Wordlist plus picture is effective in increasing students’ stock ofvocabulary at the seventh grade of SMP N 2 Tenga.

Abstract

The aims of this research was to find out whether or not, the Students’ Perception about School Library a Affects their Reading Comprehension Achievment. This research was conducted at SMA NEGERI 1 LANGOWAN. The subjects were 30 students’ of XI grade, which consisted of 25 sample. The instrument for data collection was taken from student’s questionnaire based on Likert scale. The results showed that Since Pearson r (1.00) is bigger than r(table) (0.361) at p. 0.05 and df 28, it can then be stated that the null hypothesis (ho) is rejected, and alternative hypothesis (ha) is accepted at p 0.05 and df 28. This, in other words, means that students’perception about school library in affecting their reading comprehension are positively correlated. Thus, in turn, students who are predicted to have high reading comprehension,according to the researcher that the influence of the school library is very high to develop students' reading comprehension. In this case the researcher considers that the relationship between the school library and students’ is very important.That means there was a positive correlation between students’ perception about school library and their reading comprehension achievment.

Abstract

This study focuses on students’ interest in English, and how it influences students’ achievement. The aim of this study is to figure out whether there is a correlation between students’ interest and their academic achievement in learning English. The number of the sample in this research are 87 students at the second grade of SMA Negeri 1 Tomohon. This study used quantitative research design which is non-experimental research. The data collected with questionnaire to obtain the information about students’ interest and students’ achievement in learning English. The questionnaire consists of 31 items divided into positive and negative statements. The items were tested with SPPS to determent the validity and the reliability of each items. The data was analysed by using the formula of Pearson Product Moment Correlation. It was found that the correlation score was 0.424. The significance value was 0.217 showed in the r table. The score of correlation 0.424 was higher than the significance value 0.217, means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Based on the result, it can be concluded that there was a positive correlation between students’ interest and their academic achievement in learning English. The researcher suggests that the case interest is very important particularly in affecting students’ achievement, therefore it must be improved.

Abstract

This study was aimed to find out the speaking problems encountered by the students’. It was conducted at twelveth grade Of SMAN 2 Gemeh. The design of the research was used descriptive quantitative method. The instrument for data collection was questionnaires distributed to twenty students’ of twelveth grade at SMAN 2 Gemeh. Students' answer to each item in the spread questionnaire were examined and conferred by the researcher's understanding, opinion and experience. The results showed that most of the students’ had problems in speaking, they were linguistic problems and non-linguistic problems. Linguistic problems consisted of poor in grammar, lack of vocabulary and lack of pronunciation. The dominant problem of linguistic problems was poor in grammar. Most of them stated that they were not able to construct English sentences accurately, and for non-linguistic problems were shyness and lack of confidence. It is suggested that the students should study hard and do more practice in speaking.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out whether the use of role play could improve the students’ speaking ability or not. The goal of this study was to see if students' speaking improved after using role play. The quantitative method was used to conduct this study. This study used a pre-experimental design with a single group pre-test and post-test. The subject of this research was second grade of SMP Anugrah Tondano which consisted of 10 students. The tests were in the form fill in test with dialogue. The result of this research showed that the mean scores in the post-test was higher (76) than those of pre-test (45). It was found that students' speaking ability was still low before using Role play technique; however, it was found that students' speaking ability improved after implementing Role play technique. It could be concluded that, the use of role play was effective to increase students’ speaking ability

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out whether using Anki-flashcard can increase students' vocabulary as a learning-teaching aid in learning English. The object of this research was grade 7th students consisted of 20 students at SMP Berea Tondano. This was quantitative research of pre-test and post-test with pre-experimental design. The data pre-test and post-test were collected using 20 items multiple-choice test. The results of this research indicate that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. The results of mean score showed improvement between the pre-test (53) and the post-test (90), with the post-test score higher than the pre-test. Therefore, it can be said that the use of the Anki-Flashcard was effective in increasing students' vocabulary. English teachers were suggested to use Anki-Flashcard in teaching and learning to help students remember words more easily.

Abstract

To improve students' language skills, the researcher is interested in employing English songs. If teachers use engaging teaching methods, students will be more motivated to learn English. High motivation can thus facilitate pupils' learning. This research aimed at finding out whether the use of songs could increase the students’ stock of vocabulary or not. In conducting this research, quantitative research was used. The subject of this study was one class of the first grade at SMP Anugrah Tondano that consist of 20 students. The instrument of collecting data was in the form pre-test and post-test. The tests were in the form fill in test with missing words and multiple choice. The result of this research showed that the mean scores in the post-test was higher (77) than those of pre-test (40). Which has an increase in scores of (23) between pre-test to post-test. It could conclude that, the use of song was effective to increase students’ vocabulary because it could stimulate students in learning and encourage them to be able to memorize the word

Abstract

This study focused on the students’ perception on the use of podcast to the learning of English speaking. In doing this research, the researcher used questionnaire to be distributed to the students. The researcher used quantitative research as the research method and the collected data were presented in the form of numbers and counted in percentage formula. In distributing this research, the population was the third grade of TKJ students of SMK Cokroaminoto Kotamobagu, which has 5 classes. The researcher took the sample from 3 classes of those 5 classes based on the teacher’s recommendation. There were 3 classes participated in this research which one class consisted of 20 until 25 students. There were total 65 respondents answered the distributed questionnaire. The result of the research showed the domination of positive responses from the respondents of the questionnaire based on the students’ experience in using the podcast as learning media. So, could be concluded that English podcast was effective to use as a media in learning English, especially to practice the speaking skills. The teacher was suggested to always do an improvement in more creative way by using the existing technology and to know what the students need to be fun in various ways of learning especially in learning English also speaking skill practice as well and could be produced the best outcomes from the benefits obtained.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to increase students’ vocabulary by using songs techniques of SMP Negeri 1 Siau Timur Selatan. The method used in this study was the pre-experimental method. This research was carried out in one class, namely the seventh grade with a total of 21 students. The students are taught using the songs and they are That is a Window, Things in the classroom and My Classroom. The instruments used in this study were pre-test and post-test. Mean score formula was used in analyzing data. The result showed that the pre-test score is 4,47 while the post-test score is 7,57. That means, Song is the right technique to use in increasing students’ vocabulary.

Abstract

This research aims to determine whether the final exam that is given by the teacher to students can encourage students to think critically. This research was conducted in Tondano. The method used in this research was the quantitative method. The researcher took the data from about English language exam consisting of 40 questions. In 40 questions there are 5 kinds of test that is examined. Research using the theory of Bloom's Taxonomy. After being analyzed based on the theory of bloom’s taxonomy, all the contents of the questions contain 100% knowledge. In 40 questions there is no comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, or even evaluation. The test results showed that the 40 questions are at the level of low order thinking because it's a matter of the English exam is otherwise not able to encourage the students in critical thinking according to the theory of Bloom's Taxonomy on high order thinking level.
