Abstract

The development of textbooks is very important in order to achieve the objectives of the lecture, one of which is in the English for Mathematics course. The purpose of this research was to develop English for mathematics textbook base on Collaborative Learning for mathematics education students. Development of this textbook was 4-D model with stage; defining, designing, developing and disseminating. English for mathematics based on collaborative learning are validated by several experts namely mathematical material experts, language experts and lay out experts. The practicality of textbook obtained through the result of student response questionnaires. The result of this research was to produce English for mathematics textbook based on collaborative learning that were valid and practical to be used for mathematics student in learning

Abstract

Program kemitraan masyarakat (PKM) dilakukan di Desa Sukadamai kecamatan Ujungbatu kabupaten Rokan Hulu provinsi Riau. Sebagaian besar kepala keluarga di desa ini berprofesi sebagai buruh pabrik sawit yang bekerja hanya seminggu dalam sebulan. Penghasilan mereka dibawah rata-rata UMK (Upah minimum kinerja) sehingga sulit untuk membuka usaha mandiri. Selain itu, belum adanya keterampilan/ skill khusus untuk menambah penghasilan. Ditambah lagi belum adanya produk unggulan desa yang dapat membuka lapangan kerja bagi masyarakat. Untuk itu perlu adanya pemberdayaan masayrakat untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan keluarga. Kegiatan pengabdian ini ditujukan untuk ibu-ibu rumah tangga desa sukadamai. Hal ini dikarenakan mereka masih produktif, punya waktu luang, dan bersemangat untuk berwirausaha. PKM ini dilaksanakan dalam bentuk penyuluhan, pelatihan, dan pendampingan usaha. Penyuluhan yang diberikan untuk menambah wawasan mitra tentang tata busana/fashion dan kewirausahaan. Pengadaan alat dan bahan baku diberikan untuk mendukung kegiatan usaha. Pelatihan tata busana yaitu pelatihan menjahit, mendesain pola, dan membordir. Pendampingan usaha/ mentoring yang diberikan dalam bentuk bantuan promosi jasa, pencatatan keuangan dan strategi pemasaran. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah ibu-ibu telah memiliki keahlian mendesain pola pakaian, menjahit, dan membordir dan bersiap membentuk UMKM bidang tata busana di desa sukadamai.

Abstract

To achieve effectiveness and alignment between the needs and the ability of students, it is necessary to conduct research about the needs of management students in learning English, especially English for Specific Purposes. Before designing the material for language teaching, the teacher needs to understand the nature of the material development and the process that is typically involved if quality materials are to be created. This research was designed as a descriptive qualitative design. In collecting the data, researchers gave questionnaires and interview the first semester of Management students at the University of Pasir Pengaraian. There are 80 students as a sample to conduct this research. Abstract

In writing and publication of scientific articles, lecturers need to be present to train teachers. This is in line with the task of lecturers in implementing the Tridharma of higher education and the main performance indicators; lecturers work outside the campus. Therefore, all lecturers of the English department of Universitas Pasir Pengaraian contributed to help English teachers in Rokan Hulu in writing and publishing scientific articles. The objectives of the service activities are:(1)to increase teachers’ understanding and competence in writing scientific articles;(2)to provide assistance to teachers in writing scientific articles;(3)to increase teachers' understanding of how to publish scientific articles. The number of participants for the first activity were 25 English teachers SMP and 80 English teachers for the second activity. The results of the activities were that the teacher can write articles starting from writing article identities, abstracts, introductions, citations and references, methods, presentation of results and discussions, understanding of using the Mandeley application. Although it had not been proven that articles had been published, the teachers already known and understood the procedures for publication on journals and proceedings. Abstrak Dalam penulisan dan publikasi artikel ilmiah, dosen perlu hadir untuk melatih guru. Hal ini sejalan dengan tugas dosen dalam pelaksanaaan tridarma perguruan tinggi dan indicator kinerja utama; dosen berkegiatan diluar kampus. Maka, semua dosen prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas pasir pengaraian berkontribusi membantu guru Bahasa inggris di Rokan Hulu dalam penulisan dan publiksai artikel ilmiah. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian adalah:(1) meningkatkan pemahaman dan kompetensi guru dalam penulisan artikel ilmiah;(2) melakukan pendampingan kepada guru dalam menulis artikel ilmiah;(3) meningkatkan pemahaman guru tentang cara publikasi artikel ilmiah. Jumlah Peserta kegiatan pertama yaitu 25 guru Bahasa inggris SMP dan peserta kegiatan kedua 80 guru Bahasa inggris SMA. Hasil kegiatan yaitu guru sudah bisa menulis artikel dimulai dari penulisan identitas artikel, abstrak, pendahuluan, pengutipan dan referensi, metode, penyajian hasil dan diskusi, paham menggunakan aplikasi mandeley. Meskipun belum terbukti sudah publikasi artikel, para guru sudah mengetahui dan memahami tata cara publikasi pada jurnal maupun prosiding.

Abstract

Books are teaching materials that are designed as learning resources arranged systematically so that students can use them to achieve learning goals. Teachers and lecturers must have the ability to develop teaching materials according to the needs of their students. The purpose of this study was to describe the needs of mathematics students for Collaborative Learning-based mathematics English textbooks. This research method is descriptive qualitative. The research subjects were 21 students of Mathematics Education, Pasir Pengaraian University who had completed English courses. Data collected through questionnaires and interviews with indicators: (1) the ease of students in learning English (2) the need for students to master English in the face of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) era, (3) the student's need for learning English mathematics resources, (4) the student's need for textbooks involving students to actively read, write, and discuss (5) the student's need for an attractive, easy-to-carry and economical appearance of English mathematics textbooks (6) student interest in Collaborative Learning-based textbooks. Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out if there is significant relationship between students’ vocabulary knowledge and their speaking ability. The method used in this research is a correlation design which has two variables, variable X (vocabulary knowledge) and variable Y (speaking ability). The populations of this research were 275 of the second-grade students of MTs Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru and the researcher take 28 students as the sample. The researcher employed Simple Random Sampling technique. In collecting data, the researcher distributed objective test and take an oral test. The researcher analyzed the data with Pearson Product Moment Correlation formula by using SPSS 23.0 version. The results of this research, students' vocabulary knowledge has an average score of 73.04, which is categorized as "good" their speaking ability has an average value of 76.36, which is categorized as "good". Of course, there is a significant correlation between the relationship between students' vocabulary knowledge and their speaking ability at MTs Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out students' difficulties in speaking English skill. This research use descriptive qualitative research design. While the writer described and students' difficulties in speaking skill. The population of his research was taken rom the fourth semester students' English department University of PasirPengaraian. This class consisted 0f 26 students. Based on the data of analysis, it can be concluded that the fourth semester students' English department University o f PasirPengaraian in students' difficulties speaking most was they lack necessary of vocabulary and at least was students tend to use "Native" language when they are speaking English.

Abstract

Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris memiliki himpunan mahasiswa bahasa Inggris (ESSA) dimana seluruh mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris mengikuti program kerja yang selaras dengan visi dan misi program untuk memberikan ruang bagi mahasiswa untuk berinovasi, berkreasi, dan mengembangkan bakat dan keterampilan masing-masing. Tahun ini merupakan tahun kedua Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris berkonsentrasi pada program bekerja sama dengan para siswanya dalam mengikuti program Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka. Mahasiswa masih belum mengetahui segala hal yang perlu diketahui tentang berbagai kegiatan MBKM, baik yang akan dilakukan setiap semester maupun yang akan mereka lakukan. Himpunan mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris akan menjadi mitra sasaran kegiatan layanan MBKM tahun 2022. Workshop digunakan untuk mengimplementasikan MBKM dengan tujuan menjadikan lulusan dan mahasiswa lebih kompeten baik soft skill maupun hard skill yang bekerja sama dengan kegiatan MBKM. Hal ini akan menjadikan lulusan dan mahasiswa lebih siap dan lebih relevan dengan kebutuhan saat ini, menjadikan lulusan dan mahasiswa sebagai pemimpin masa depan bangsa yang unggul dan memiliki kepribadian. Program pembelajaran berdasarkan pengalaman dengan jalur yang dapat beradaptasi seharusnya bekerja dengan siswa untuk menumbuhkan kapasitas mereka yang sebenarnya sesuai dengan antusiasme dan kemampuan mereka melalui latihan MBKM yang diiklankan.

Abstract

Himpunan Pendidikan Bahasa Prodi Bahasa Inggris berupaya mengaktifkan program kerja himpunan mahasiswa di era perubahan yang mulai membaik pasca pandemi Covid-19 guna mencetak karakter mahasiswa dengan soft skill yang berkembang di masa depan. Perhimpunan mahasiswa ini menghadapi berbagai tantangan, antara lain sering merasa resah ketika tampil di depan umum dan kurangnya pengawasan terhadap tumbuhnya minat dan bakat mahasiswa. Alhasil, tim pengabdian masyarakat program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris Universitas Pasir Pengaraian mengadakan pelatihan untuk membantu mahasiswa belajar lebih banyak tentang berbicara di depan umum. Gerakan persiapan ini dilakukan dalam suatu konfigurasi pemeriksaan dan penilaian yang dilakukan baik secara kuantitatif maupun subyektif. Peserta pelatihan terbukti lebih percaya diri berbicara di depan umum setelah mengikuti pelatihan karena mereka lebih memahami tata cara berbicara di depan umum. Terbukti bahwa pengetahuan dan keterampilan telah meningkat sebagai hasil dari pelatihan ini.

Abstract

Todays, using technology in teaching English online is a must for lecturer. It can facilitate student and lecturer in interaction on the learning process and create an interactive and communicative classroom environment. Learning outcome of essay writing is students are able to write essay well. To achieve learning outcome, the lecturer must develop about teaching material. Module is the most suitable teaching material for the students. Module was also useful on online learning. The Purpose of this research was to create Module of essay writing valid, practice and effective and to gain effect of Module in stimulating students’ critical thinking. Method of this research is R and D (Research and Development); ADDIE Development; analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. Instruments of this research were Questionnaire and Writing Test. Data were gotten from the result of students’ and lecturer’s questionnaire response, validity test, and pre-test and posttest. Based on the result of Module validity; design, material, and language, the results showed that the Module had good validity. A pretest and posttest were given to get the result of implementation of writing Module in stimulating students’ critical thinking. The Sample Paired-t test was 11.094 t-table was 2.064. The results showed that the Module improved critical thinking and writing skills.
