Abstract

Peserta didik perlu dilatih keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi dengan harapan dapat menguasai keterampilan abad ke-21 supaya mampu mengimbangi perkembangan teknologi yang sangat pesat dan mampu bersaing dengan negara lain. Karena itu diperlukan bahan ajar untuk memfasilitasi peserta didik berlatih keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan utama yaitu menghasilkan bahan ajar LKPD berbasis Problem Based Learning pada materi Sistem Peredaran Darah kelas XI SMA yang layak secara teoritis berdasarkan hasil validasi para ahli. Penelitian ini menggunakan model penelitian 4D (four-D) meliputi tahapan define (pendefinisian), design (perencanaan), develop (pengembangan), tanpa tahap disseminate (penyebaran). Perangkat yang dikembangkan divalidasi oleh dosen biologi ahli materi, dosen biologi ahli pendidikan serta guru biologi SMA yang menggunakan lembar. LKPD berbasis Problem Based Learning diharapkan dapat melatihkan keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi peserta didik. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa LKPD layak secara teoritis mencapai 93,00% dengan kategori valid. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian LKPD yang dikembangkan layak untuk diuji coba. Abstract

Keterampilan proses sains berkaitan erat dengan kegiatan penelitian. Pengembangan keterampilan proses sains penting bagi peserta didik agar dapat memahami serta mengembangkan ide dan konsep yang belum diketahui serta memungkinkan untuk menemukan konsep secara mandiri. Lembar Kegiatan Peserta Didik (LKPD) berbasis guided discovery berisi kegiatan percobaan transpor membran yang berhubungan dengan pengalaman sehari-hari untuk melatihkan keterampilan proses sains peserta didik. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan validitas lembar kegiatan peserta didik berbasis guided discovery pada materi transpor membran sehingga dapat melatihkan keterampilan proses sains kelas XI SMA. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan model penelitian pengembangan 4D (four-D models) dengan tahapan define, design, develop tanpa disseminate. Validitas LKPD diukur berdasarkan kelayakan penyajian (teknis), kelayakan isi (didaktik), kelayakan kebahasaan (konstruksi), kesesuaian dengan komponen guded discovery, serta kesesuaian dengan pencapaian tujuan melatihkan keterampilan proses sains. Validitas LKPD ditentukan berdasarkan hasil validasi oleh dua dosen ahli dan satu guru biologi. Hasil validasi berdasarkan kelayakan penyajian memperoleh skor 3,9; kelayakan isi dengan skor 3,67; kelayakan bahasa dengan skor 4; keterkaitan dengan langkah pembelajaran guided discovery memperoleh skor 3,8; dan kesesuaian dengan indikator keterampilan proses sains memperoleh skor 3,53. Secara keseluruhan, hasil validasi LKPD memperoleh skor rata-rata 3,78 sehingga dikategorikan sangat valid. Dengan demikian, LKPD berbasis guided discovery yang dikembangkan telah memenuhi aspek-aspek penilaian LKPD dan dapat digunakan dalam pembelajaran yang melatihkan keterampilan proses sains. Abstract

As measure against the rapid spreading of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) which now has reached global level, Indonesian government established Large-scale Social Distancing (LsSD). As consequence, learning method used in junior and senior high school is substituted from face-to-face learning in class to online distance learning, including for science and biology. This study was conducted to know software preference used by science and biology junior and senior high school teachers for online learning during LsSD measure. A total of 189 science and biology junior and senior high school teachers from various area had given their response via questionnaire. Data was analyzed using quantitative descriptive method. About 57% respondents had never manage online learning before COVID-19 pandemic while the remaining 43% had experience in managing one before, however almost all managed online learning. Non-paid software used the most (81%) among respondents to manage online science/biology learning. Software types used were social networking (64%) especially WhatsApp, learning management system (LMS) (51%) especially Google Classroom, teleconference applications (12%), and assessment software outside of LMSs (15%). Software chosen were mostly non-paid, easily accessed by all people, already familiar among Indonesian, and its interface were easily mastered.

Abstract

Control of Ae. Aegypti population is performed as an effort to suppress the transmission of dengue virus, one of the methods is sprinkling of temephos larvicide. Operational dose of temephos used in Indonesia (1 mg/L) is higher from recommended dose of WHO (0.012 mg/L). In East Java, commercial temephos are found to have different application doses of 8 g/L (8G) and 10 g/L (10 G). This study was designed to know the susceptibility of Ae. aegypti population from Jember (JEM), Surabaya (SBY), and Entomology Laboratory of Universitas Airlangga collection (LAB) towards temephos 8G and 10G starting at high (1 mg/L) to low concentrations(0.015625 mg/L). Larvae mortality test was performed based on WHO standard method with 4 times replication. Data was analyzed statistically. Results showed that the three groups of Ae. aegypti larvae had mortality level at >90% in the lowest concentration applied (0.015625 mg/L) at time threshold of 240 minutes, for both temephos8 G and 10 G. Significant difference of larvae mortality towards highest (1 mg/L) and lowest dose (0.015625 mg/L) was found in JEM, at both 8 G and 10 G doses, and LAB at 8 G dose. JEM and SBY groups were found to have resistance ratio 95 (RR95) to temephosat low category (<5) compared to LAB. All groupstill retained susceptibility towards commercial temephos larvicide at low dose (0.015625 mg/L). Based on results, we recommendedlowering the operational dose of larvicide temephos used for population control of Ae. aegypti vector population in East Java.

Abstract

Abstract

Batteries are one source of electrical energy that is still an important need in everyday life, especially for electronic equipment. Batteries are often used for daily activities, including for TV remotes, wall clocks, flashlights, and others. However, battery waste is very dangerous for the environment because it contains hazardous materials and requires proper handling to deal with it. One of them is the procurement of alternative batteries that are more environmentally friendly. Battery waste can be recycled using natural materials, one of which is using waste from banana peels. Banana peels contain ionizing properties and conduct electricity, making them suitable for use as an electrolyte paste that has optimal battery life. The processing of leather waste into alternative batteries (biobatteries) is carried out with partners from the residents of Sidotopo Wetan Village, Kenjeran District, Surabaya, as a community service program through three stages, namely the preparation, socialization, and practice stages. Then in the practical session, experiments were also carried out with the aim of knowing the voltage generated from the biobattery and the durability of the biobattery made from banana peel waste. In the experimental results in the practical session, it was found that banana peel waste can deliver electricity, so it can be used for electrolytics in commercial batteries which may be used as biobatteries. It is hoped that through this service program, it can provide provisions for community partners in overcoming battery needs through their own production to reduce the cost of purchasing batteries, as well as being able to update science and technology, so that community partners are able to create prosperous and competitive families. Baterai merupakan salah satu sumber energi listrik yang masih menjadi kebutuhan penting dalam kehidupan sehari-hari terutama untuk peralatan elektronika. Baterai seringkali digunakan untuk kegiatan sehari-hari, diantaranya untuk remot TV, jam dinding, senter, dan lain-lain. Namun, limbah baterai sangat berbahaya bagi lingkungan karena mengandung bahan berbahaya dan beracun yang memerlukan penanganan yang tepat untuk mengatasinya. Salah satunya dengan pengadaan baterai alternatif yang lebih ramah lingkungan. Limbah baterai dapat didaur ulang menggunakan bahan alami salah satunya menggunakan limbah dari kulit pisang. Kulit pisang memiliki kandungan yang dapat terionisasi dan menghantarkan listrik, sehingga cocok digunakan sebagai pasta elektrolit yang memiliki daya tahan baterai yang optimal. Pengolahan limbah kulit pisang menjadi baterai alternatif (biobaterai) dilakukan bersama mitra warga Kelurahan Sidotopo Wetan, Kecamatan Kenjeran, Surabaya, sebagai program pengabdian masyarakat melalui tiga tahapan yaitu tahap persiapan, sosialisasi, dan praktik. Kemudian di sesi praktik juga dilakukan eksperimen dengan tujuan mengetahui tegangan yang dihasilkan dari biobaterai serta daya tahan biobaterai yang berbahan dari limbah kulit pisang. Pada hasil eksperimen di sesi praktik didapatkan hasil bahwa limbah kulit pisang dapat mengantarkan arus listrik, sehingga dapat digunakan untuk menggantikan elektrolit pada baterai komersil yang berpotensi sebagai pembuatan biobaterai. Diharapkan melalui program pengabdian ini dapat memberikan bekal kepada mitra warga dalam mengatasi kebutuhan baterai melalui produksi sendiri untuk menekan biaya pembelian baterai, serta dapat menjadi pemutakhiran ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi, sehingga mitra warga mampu menciptakan keluarga sejahtera dan berdaya saing.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of various fractions of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) pericarp extract to the changes of the fasting blood cholesterol and serum malondialdehyde (MDA) levels on diabetic mice (Mus musculus). Thirty 3-4 months old male mice strain BALB/c, weight 20-30 g were divided into six groups. The first group was KN as a non diabetic control group, KD as a diabetic control, KM as a group of diabetic mice treated with metformin, and NP, SP, and P as the treatment groups that were treated by using three different fractions from mangosteen pericarp extract, non polar, semi polar, and polar respectively. The induction of Diabetes mellitus was done by the injection of STZ, and the mice were given a high fat diet treatment to induce the hiperlipidemia condition using lard for three weeks. The blood cholesterol levels were measured in all groups before and after the injection of lard, and day 1, 7, and 14 of treatment as well. The serum MDA level as the indicator of lipid peroxidation were measured by using QuantiChrom TBARS Assay Kit (DTBA-100). The data of cholesterol levels were statistically analyzed by t-test, while the data of serum MDA levels were analyzed by variance analysis followed by Duncan test. The results showed that the polar fraction of mangosteen pericarp had effect to decrease the fasting blood cholesterol level in mice, however the non polar and semi polar fraction had no simmilar effect. All of the fractions has shown significant effect to decrease the serum MDA level in mice.

Abstract

The Indonesian government has long supported educational institutions to provide clean and healthy living habits through the Ministry of Health. However, clean and healthy living habits in schools seem to be increasingly important nowadays, because in the new normal era of the corona virus pandemic, children will soon return to school. Schools must maintain a clean and healthy lifestyle by involving teachers, students, and the community in the school environment and following certain health-related procedures. The school environment also needs to be made clean and healthy. The benefit of maintaining a clean and healthy lifestyle at school is to create a clean and healthy environment. In this way, the teaching process will run smoothly, and the health of teachers, students and the surrounding community will not be disturbed. Education on clean and healthy living habits is packaged in a national seminar in collaboration with SMA Negeri 19 Surabaya on Sunday, March 28, 2021. This activity is carried out in the form of lectures with the help of power points, through a zoom meeting platform which is also broadcast live on Youtube. The material presented includes three things with the author himself as the resource person and moderator of the event. The three materials are about Covid-19 and its development, the Covid-19 vaccine and its effectiveness, and the application of clean and healthy living habits in an effort to fight Covid-19. As for the participants, students from SD, SMP, and SMA with a total of 78 people and general participants reaching 11 people. This service is carried out independently and is carried out well in accordance with the objectives expected by the executor.

Abstract

The education system is defined as a process of learning something new, where the process can develop the potential within and then increase student interest in learning Increasing students' learning interest will have a good impact on teaching and learning activities so that learning results can be achieved. The learning that has been carried out so far seems to be still less than optimal, while students are required to master all existing concepts, especially on Animal Tissue material. In addition, the lack of optimal learning media is one of the reasons why student learning results’ decline. For that, it takes a learning media that can act as a bridge to understanding the concepts. The purpose of this research was to describe the level of effectiveness and practicality of using the Make a-Match cards on Animal Tissue material. This research was quantitative descriptive research. The model used was ASSURE with six stages. This study used a one group pretest-posttest design. The trial was carried out at XI MIPA 4 SMAN 8 Surabaya. Research instruments included test sheets, validation, observation, and student responses. The results showed that the completeness indicator scores 75% in the complete category, validation scores 79.3% in the valid category, the implementation observation was 100% in the very good category, and student responses were 94.5% in the very practical category. Thus, the Make a-Match Card learning media can be used for the learning process at school.
