Abstract

Generally candlenut are still broken traditionally. The product broken candlenut is affected by immersion process ofdrying and it will affect the product significantly. This research was performed in December 2011 up to February 2012 atAgricultural Engineering Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture USU, Medan using non factorial randomized block design withone factor i.e immersion temperature (3 0C, 6 0C, and 9 C). The parameters observed were percentage of whole nut, thepercentage of nut broken in half, the percentage of crushed nut, the percentage of sticky core, immersion temperatureand engineering economics analysis using basic value, BEP, NPV, and IRR.  The results showed that immersiontemperature had significantly affected all parameters. The best result was immersion temperature at 3 0C. This equipmentis feasible to operate with the basic value of Rp. 119,92 kg-1, the BEP of 37.329,32 kg year, NPV of Rp. 8.121.452,19 ininterest 12% and Rp. 7.171.112,51 in interest 15%, and IRR of 37,64%.-10

Abstract

Cultivation of crops on sloping land is  vulnerable to erosion if no soil and water conservation measures applied. This study was aim to quantify the erosion, determining the tolerable rate of erosion, and the erosion rate (TBE) in the Ultisol soil on slopes: 9%, 19%, and 32% plantedwith  peanuts, using small plots and USLE predictions on July-October 2012 in the District Siborongborong. The results showed that the amount of erosion that occurs for USLE prediction method based on 12 years of rainfall data for the slopes of 9%, 19%, 32%, were 20.91, 69.43, and 166.47 tons/ha.year respectively, with moderate to very high TBE category. USLE prediction method based on rainfall data for four months of study with 9%, 19%, 32% slopes, were 0.4, 1.2,and 2.9 ton/ha.year respectively with low TBE category. Small methods plots for slopes of 9% 19%, 32%, were 12.36, 12.54, and 0.63 tons/ha year respectively with low TBE category. The magnitude of the tolerable rate of erosion at 17:17 tonnes/ha.year (17.17 mm/ha.year). Key words: Erosion, Ultisol land, Peanut Plant, Siborongborong

Abstract

This research was done to test the variant of the knife edge shape on the effective capacity of the equipment, percentage of material unpeeled, and fuel consumption on mechanical coconut peeler. This research was using non factorial completely randomized design. It was found that the effective capacity of the equipment, percentage of material unpeeled, and fuel consumption were 231.24 unit hour-1, 6,67%, and 2.37 litre hour-1 respectively triangle knife edge,  301.97 unit/hour, 13.33%, and 2.62 litre/hour respectively cone knife edge, and 192.48 unit hour-1, 13.33% and 1.85 litre hour-1 respectively nail knife edge. The results showed that the variant of knife edge had significant effect on the effective capacity and fuel consumption and had no effect on the percentage of material unpeeled. Abstract

The aim of this study was to quantify and to compare the modulus values of wetland ricefield drainage in the village of Sei Beras Sekata. Drainage modulus value is used as a reference to throw out water from the wetland ricefield. Drainage modulus values was calculated by three methods i.e plotting maximum daily rainfall, daily inundation simulations with a daily water balance in the mapped fields, and using the formula of the Department of Public Works. It was found from the research, that the drainage modulus values on daily maximum rainfall plotting methods was 29 mm day-1, the daily inundation simulation methods with high daily water balance mapped fields was 40.3 mm day-1, and formula of the Department of Public Works was 61,2 mm day-1. Abstract

The RPM of coffee roaster mixer tool is needed to care. The machine RPM will affect the roasting quality. Various level of PRM were tested to know the quality of coffee produced. Research had been conducted at agricultural engineering laboratory, faculty Agricultural USU in Juni – September 2012 with using factorial randomized block design with one factor i.e 10, 35,5 and 61 revolution per minute. Parameters observed were organoleptic test, yield, process capacity and water content. The results showed that the RPM had no effect on the organoleptic test, yield and process capacity, and had highly significantly effect on the water content. Abstract

Oil palm has been rumored as a plant which more water consumption, therefore a research is needed with water balance model to arrange and analyze rainfall parameters as a water source at Kebun Rambutan PT Perkebunan Nusantara III during March-July 2013. Water balance model consist of rainfall, throughfall, stemflow, interception, actual evaporation and runoff. The results showed that the soil at the site has Ultisol land order with sandy clay loam texture and bulk density of, 1,284 g/cm3, particle density of 2,663 g/cm3, porosity of 51,471% and soil organic matter of 2,275%. Daiy rainfall during the research was 3,456 mm/day, however based on yhe calculation of 10 years data from BMKG, daily rainfall during March-July was 4,269 mm/day. Actual evaporation was 2,929 mm/day and in field capacity was 358,05 mm, so that 143,837 mm more water as percolation. Keywords : rainfall, oil palm, water balance

Abstract

One way to overcome erosion is using vegetative methods, where its influence can be manifested by the C factor. The best C factors used in determining the amount of erosion is the value of C in the local area. This study was aimed to determine the value of soya bean and lemongrass crop factor on the Andepts soil during March to July 2013 using the method of small plots and USLE. Parameters used in determining the C factor were the amount of erosion, the allowable erosion rate, and the erosion hazard level. The results showed that the amount of erosion on land without a crop was 0,46 ton (ha.year)-1, on lemongrass land was 0,39 ton (ha.year)-1, on soybeans land was 0,30 ton (ha.year)-1. The amount of allowable erosion rate was 32 ton (ha.year)-1. While erosion hazard rate on land without a crop was 0,014; on lemongras land was 0,012 and on soybeans land was 0,009 which include in low category. The value of soybeans crop factor using rainfall research data for 4 months and 10 years data was 0,655 and 0,666 respectively. The value of lemongrass crop factor using rainfall research data for 4 months and 10 years data was 0,851 and 0,866 respectively. Key words : andepts, C factor, erosion,, Kwala Bekala USU
