Abstract

Food corps information system in Serdang Bedagai Regency are still stored in books and/or files that arevery limited in effectiveness. Computerized information delivery methods and internet networks are solutionsthat are worth to try to overcome the problems of information flow. Study was designed to produce systemsthat can help process the delivering, storing, and monitoring of data displayed in a web form. The systemswere designed in a user oriented programming language PHP, and MySQL database web Apachewebserver. This system could improve efficiency and effectiveness of information flow, especially food corpsinformation. The results showed that the distribution and types of food corps commodities in each district inSerdang Bedagai Regency was different. The spread and the kind depend on topographic, the price leveland market demand in the area.

Abstract

This research was done to test effect of number of knife edge on the effective  capacity of the equipment,  percentage of material left in the equipment, and percentage of material that was sliced completely. This research was using completely randomized design non factorial. It was found that the effective capacity of the equipment, percentage of material was sliced completely, on one knife edge 45.82 kg hr-1, 3.59%, 3.45%, on two knife edge 49.70 kg hr-1, 4.07%, 4.11%, on three knife edge 68.58 kg hr-1, 10.10%, 4.72%. Respectively the results showed  that number of knife edge had zig, don’t effect on the  effective capacity and  percentage of material left in the equipment, and had no effect on the percentage of material that was sliced completely. Abstract

The RPM of coffee roaster mixer tool is needed to care. The machine RPM will affect the roasting quality. Various level of PRM were tested to know the quality of coffee produced. Research had been conducted at agricultural engineering laboratory, faculty Agricultural USU in Juni – September 2012 with using factorial randomized block design with one factor i.e 10, 35,5 and 61 revolution per minute. Parameters observed were organoleptic test, yield, process capacity and water content. The results showed that the RPM had no effect on the organoleptic test, yield and process capacity, and had highly significantly effect on the water content. Abstract

This study is aimed at testing the number of sprocket groove on coconut fiber mechanical peeler. The study was conducted to determine the number of sprocket groove to get optimal effectiveness of equipment, the percentage of material that is not peeled and less broken yield and the amount of power needed. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Faculty of Agriculture, Agricultural engineering, University of North Sumatra in April-June 2012 using the of non-factorial randomized block design using number of sprocket grooves of 27, 29, and 31 pieces. Observed parameters was the effective capacity of the tool, the percentage of material and broken pieces and the amount of  power  needed to strip the coconut husk. The results showed that the number of sprocket groove significantly affected the effective capacity and had no effect on the percentage of defect peeling and broken pieces. The highest effective capacity was obtained on sprocket groove of 27 pieces i.e 537 coconut / hour and the percentage of unpeeled material and broken pieces was 11%. Abstract

Roasting is an important step in the production of coffee powder, wherein the formation of aroma and distinctive flavor of coffee is determined at this stage. Of the national production of coffee beans, only 20% are processed and marketed in the form of secondary products such as roasted coffee, ground coffee and instant coffee. This study was plan to build a rotary mechanical device of coffee roasters. The study was conducted with literature study, experiment, observation and testing of the tool. The parameters measured were the effective capacity of the tool. The results showed that the effective capacity of the coffee roasters was 2.151 kg.hour-1. Information system in Perbaungan irrigated area still done manually, so the storage, processing and delivery of information to be ineffective and inefficient. In the information management most the result were done by human role and took a relatively longer time. Moreover, the information seekers-and decision-makers also have difficulty in obtaining the data they need. Therefore, it is necessary to further develop of the information system. Web-based information system is considered to be a solution in order to access information faster, systematicaly and easy to use. For that a web-based information systems in the management of irrigation in Perbaungan irrigation areas Serdang Bedagai Regency was designed. Information system in Karo Regency irrigation area was still done manually, so the storage, processing and delivery of information to be ineffective and inefficient. In the information management most the result were done by human role and took a relatively longer time. Moreover, the information seekers-and decision-makers also had difficulty in obtaining the data they need. Therefore, it is necessary to further develop of the information system. Web-based information system is considered to be a solution in order to access information faster, systematicaly and easy to use. For that a web-based information systems in the management of irrigation in Karo Regency irrigation area was designed. Irrigation network information system was designed using PHP programming language, MySQL database and the method of system development life cycle (SDLC). The result was adynamic website that displays information and could interact with the user and was user friendly where the model user interface of the web was made to facilitate the user to use system properly. Abstract

The constraint of capacity of semi mechanical coffee skin pulper is one of the obstacles to increase the coffee production. To overcome this, we need a motor-driven mechanical coffee skin pulper. The research was conducted with the study of literature and observations of semi mechanical coffee skin pulper. Then mechanical coffee skin pulper was designed. Effective capacity was 117.39 kg/h or 821.73 kg/day. This was greater than human driven semi mechanical coffee skin pulper. Basic costs to be spent in coffee pulping with this device was Rp. 85.159 /kg in the 1st year, Rp. 76.139 /kg in the 2nd year, Rp. 73.137 /kg in the 3th year, Rp. 71.638 /kg in the 4th year, and Rp. 70.741 /kg in the 5th year. This equipment will reach break-even point if it has been pulping coffee at 15104.499 kg/year. Net present value of these tools with 6% interest rate was Rp. 72,378,030.96 which means that the business was feasible to run. Internal rate of return on these instruments was 42.64%. Abstract

Palm frond cutting is still done manually, where the operator has limitations in cutting the frond. He must be really experienced and have high levels of accuracy and the work capacity is relatively limited. Therefore a mechanical cutting equipment was made. This study was conducted in May to September 2013 in the Laboratory of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, Medan, with a literature study, making and test the equipment and observation of parameters. The parameters measured were the equipment capacity, economic analysis, break-even point, the internal rate of return, and net present value. The results demonstrated that device capacity was 142.78 frond / h, economic analysis was Rp 55.873 / frond, break event was 71577.091 point / year, the internal rate of return was 40.2547 % and the equipment was deserved to be made. Abstract

Land use that is not according to his ability, besides causing damage to the land, will also increase the problem of poverty and other social problem, can even destroy a culture that had been evolving. Due to the problem of agricultural land and the farmer’s need for information and knowledge to determine the types of plants that is suitable to the characteristic’s of land, an information system is needed as a decision support system in order to determine the feasibility of land for planting a commodity. Decision Support System for Land Suitability in Percut Sei Tuan District was made using the right matching method. From the results, it was known that in Kenangan and Kenangan Baru land were not suitable for the five commodities to be planted based on history of planting in the area. However there were some areas with the level of 5 high main parameters, but do not guarantee that the land would produces well, based on the history of plant productivity that can be rely on by the surrounding community for several years.
