Abstract

Grenden Village has the highest number of households in Puger District. Generally, the habit of the people there in managing their waste are throwing it into rivers and the sea. This is the main cause of flooding in that area. One of the efforts to reduce the production of plastic waste is ecobrick. Ecobricks products are the basic material for making tables, chairs, and building materials because they have the strength to withstand loads according to the specified weight. The youth in Grenden village are agents of change who are the object of service to tackle plastic waste in their area. This service activity has 3 stages, (1) socialization regarding the impact of plastic waste disposal in the waters and the introduction of ecobricks, (2) training on making ecobricks, and (3) marketing the results of ecobricks into e-commerce. Participants were very enthusiastic about being directly involved in filling ecobricks with plastic waste and were very confident that they would be able to make more ecobricks in the future by collecting the plastic waste they produce. This positive response is a small step for good changes for the environment, especially in Grenden village.

Abstract

The biological, chemical and physical compounds in waters will effect the life of the biota in it. Nitrate is the main form of nitrogen in natural waters and the major nutrient for alga growth. The aim of this research is determining the concentration of nitrate in Pasir Putih waters, so that the research data can be utilized as water quality monitoring in Pasir Putih waters, Bungatan district, Situbondo regency. The nitrate data in marine waters sampling was collected from three stations and through laboratory analysis methods. The marine waters samples ware putted in dark glass bottles and stored in coolbox for aboratory analysis, then the data results was compared with water quality standard based on theDecree of the State Minister of the Environment Number 51 of 2004. The average of the concentration of nitrate at station A is 6,8 mg/l; at station B is 10,2 mg/l; at station C is 5,6 mg/l. The average of nitrate concentration at sampling stationsis 7,53 mg/L shows that nitrate concentration level is exceed the water quality standard based on the Decree of the State Minister of the Environment Number 51 of 2004. This leads to an indication of anthropogenic pollution in the waters due to the existence of floating net cages near the research location at Pasir Putih waters Situbondo regency. It needs further researchs about the presence of floating net cages to the surrounding water quality.

Abstract

Catfish is one of the freshwater fish whose demand is increasing every year, both in the form of fresh fish and processed foods. This increase in demand along with the ease of maintenance has made catfish a cultivated commodity that is widely eyed by fish farmers. One of the important aspects in fish farming is the provision of fish feed, although it is relatively easy, but feed management is needed to increase fish production targets. The fish feeding method mostly uses manual sowing on the surface of the pond. This method has weaknesses in terms of labor requirements and the time required if catfish farmers have many ponds, especially if the breeders forget the schedule for fish feeding. The method of implementing this community service consists of socializing activities, presenting material, directing the steps for making automatic fish feeding tools, tool making practices, tool testing and evaluation. The manufacture of this automatic fish feed tool generally consists of making the body of the tool and the assembly of the timer module components. This activity was attended by 20 people who are members of the SYSGA group in Sumbersari District, a community group engaged in catfish farming. The activity went smoothly, the participants seemed enthusiastic during the activity. Further monitoring is needed to determine the level of effectiveness and efficiency of catfish production by breeders after the use of automatic fish feed equipment.

Abstract

Flood information in disaster management generally includes flood spatio-temporal locations, flood depths, vulnerabilities, risk locations and safe zones. This is needed by Jember district, which has several flood-prone villages to coastal areas. Google Earth Engine (GEE) is a remote sensing tool that can be used to produce a flood map with good spatial and temporal coverage. GEE performs parallel data processing on Google's computing infrastructure so that data processing efficiency is obtained by using spatial data on village administrative boundaries in Jember Regency, Sentinel-1 SAR satellite image data and DEMNAS satellite image data that has been cut to the Jember district boundary. The results obtained are that there are coastal areas that are prone to flooding, namely Sumberejo village and some Puger villages because they have low slopes and have a watershed (DAS) from upstream to downstream. Other coastal areas are included in the Flood Safe Zone because some areas have high slopes and other areas are low slope areas but do not have watersheds. Keywords: GEE, flood safe zone, coastal area, Jember

Abstract

Banyuwangi has quite a lot of coastal areas. However, the negative impact of many coastal areas is that garbage is generally disposed of in the waters starting from the river which will eventually empty into the sea or directly dumped into the open sea. The mindset of Indonesian people including Banyuwangi residents who consider the sea as a garbage dump has not changed much. Santen island is one of the beaches in Banyuwangi with less waste management. As a solution to these problems, socialization is needed to increase awareness to the community and provide training to the community in handling organic waste. Socialization and training conducted is the utilization of organic waste as Eco-Enzyme with partners are coastal women. Eco-Enzyme is. This PkM implementation method consists of five stages, namely Pre-activity, presentation, Breefing training, training, and Evaluation and closing. Participants who attended this activity were 23 women of various ages. On the day of the training, the participants had prepared all the materials, then the organizing team divided the participants into 4 groups. For the ratio of ingredients for making this eco-enzyme is 1: 3: 10, where 1 is for sugar in grams, 3 is for fruit skin or vegetable scraps in grams, and 10 is water in mL. The socialization of the material on the first day increased participants' awareness of the importance of waste management and participants' enthusiasm in making eco-enzymes. Each participant in each group made eco-enzyme according to the instructions from the presenter. After three months, the participants were able to use Eco-Enzyme products as glass cleaners, toilet cleaners and bathrooms, while the pulp became fertilizer for ornamental plants in their homes.

Abstract

Composites are made of multiple materials that are combined to create new materials with better properties. The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of SiC and Cu weight fractions on hardness, tensile strength, microstructure and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of Al 6061 composites. The manufacturing method used for creating composites in this study was stir-casting. Each composite component and its functions are as follows: aluminum 6061 as the matrix, silicon carbide (SiC) as a reinforcement, and copper (Cu) functions to improve the characteristics of the composite. Variations were made by weight composition of SiC (1%, 3%, and 5%) and Cu (5% and 8%). Observations were carried out on their hardness, tensile strength, and microstructure; each of which using Rockwell hardness test B (ASTM E 18 standard), a multipurpose tensile testing machine, and SEM, respectively. The results of this study indicate that the addition of SiC and Cu affects the aluminum 6061 characteristics. The best result of the hardness test was shown at Al6061 + 5% SiC + 8% Cu (109.37 HRB). The best tensile strength (UTS) test result was shown at Al6061 + 5% SiC + 8% Cu (211.8 MPa) with elongation number of 2.8%. There has been a significant reduction in grain size under micro observations that occurred very well but was still relatively not uniform. The result of several SEM observation phases formed by the combination of Al6061 and the addition of 5% SiC + 5% Cu and 8% Cu showed an observation phase of AlZnMgCu, α (Al) + AlZnMgCu, Al2Cu, and Al2CuMg.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe presence of biofouling has an impact on the ship’s performance, which is reduced to require more fuel, in the end, it contributes significantly to cost increases. Biofilms provide a suitable substrate for the growth of microorganisms. Ship hull as a substrate for biofilms has many kinds of material. Steel, wood, laminated bamboo, and fiber are often used for ship hulls. Different material makes different characteristics of substrate for biofilms. The aim of this research is to determine the growth rate of biofouling in each shipbuilding material and to find out which vessel material is suitable for use in the Bali Strait. The experiment was located in Boom Marina, Banyuwangi. The materials used in this research are wood, laminated bamboo, and fiber. The daily growth rate (DGR) is calculated every week of observation. Wood had the most biofouling with a DGR of 2,646 g/day. Laminated bamboo had the least biofouling in this research after 2 months of immersion with a DGR of 0,086 g/day. Keywords: Biofouling, shipbuilding material, daily growth rate.
