Abstract

The achievement of high performance and optimal physical quality is the requirement that can not be ignored by a coach because every sport requires physical quality levels that vary according to the required physical qualities of the sport. Today, there are many types of tests to determine physical capabilities that are used for identifying the talent of table tennis players of all age groups. The available physical tests have not been tested empirically against the physical performance of a table tennis player. This study aimed to develop appropriate physical tests for men and women’s table tennis players aged 13-15 years. The method used was research and development. The development steps included 1) a preliminary study, 2) needs analysis, 3) expert validation, 4) empirical validation, 5) evaluating the effectiveness. The research samples consisted of 73 men’s players and 68 women’s players aged 13-15 who were enrolled in the Indonesia table tennis club (PTMSI) in Central Java; the age chronologically following the practice for at least 2 years and the frequency of exercise being 3 times a week. The data were analyzed using inter-correlation and research instruments consisting of observations with the Likert scale in the form of a rating scale. The results of the research and development show that the appropriate physical tests for men and women’s players aged 13-15 years consist of 6 test items including arm span, hands reaction speed, a tennis ball catching-throwing test, shuttle run, 20-meter sprint and multistage running. The conclusions of this research are:  the developed physical tests are appropriate for men and women’s table tennis players aged 13-15 years, including the length of arm span, speed of reaction hand, tennis ball catching-throwing test, shuttle run, 20-meter sprint, and multistage run tests.

Abstract

This study was aimed at identifying the pattern of early age children’s motor skills development. By acknowledging the pattern, a program was expected to be developed to improve the early age children’s motor skills. Motor skills are not only closely related to children’s physical abilities and intelligence but they are also associated with children’s psychological aspect. Denver Development Screening Test (DDST) was used as the research instrument. Then, the obtained data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic. The data and information were collected from respondents using observation sheets. After collected, the data were explained descriptively. The population of this study involved the early age children in the kindergartens. Moreover, in order to prevent distortion of data, the data collection employed Stratified Random Sampling technique in which population is grouped into five based on regencies and sub-grouped based on districts, so the groups of population were homogenous. The research findings present the early age children’s motor skills development pattern. In general, the results are: social behavior aspect is categorized as very good, and its percentage point is 57.14%; language aspect is categorized as very good, and its percentage point is 61.91%; gross motor skill aspect is categorized as very good, and its percentage point is 71.44 %; and the fine motor skill aspect is categorized as very good, and its percentage point is 57.14%. Based on the findings, it can be inferred that children’s motor skills development is an important part in the human life span. On the other hand the more important thing is how children innate motor skills can be optimized in a program suitable with children needs, so they can benefit from doing appropriate physical activities

Abstract

Every child is born with creative potential, but this potential may be stifled if care is nottaken to nurture and stimulate creativity. Creativity is the ability to see things in a new andunusual light, to see problems that no one else may even realize exist, and then come upwith new, unusual, and effective solutions to these problems.Children like to try out different ways, experiment with different materials, and seewhat they can do creatively. Finding different ways to exspressing themselves physicallysatisfies the urge for creative action. But it must be their ways, their ides, and theiraccomplishment.Physical education gives children opportunity for exploratory and creative activity.Children need an opportunity to tray out their own ideas, solve some of their own movementproblems and bring forth movement of their own origin. Teachers need to take advantage ofthis drive by providing opportunity for the child to come up with his own movement ideas.

Abstract

For the last two decades the teaching games for understanding (TGFU) approach has caused considerable debate in games teaching. The TGFU focuses upon teaching students tactical understanding before dealing with the performance of skills, as such the TGFU offers a tactical approach to games teaching emphasizing game performance before skill performance. The aim of a tactical approach is to improve students game performance, which involves combining tactical awareness and skill execution. Tactical awareness, critical to game performance, is the ability to identify tactical problems that arises during a game and to select the appropriate responses to solve them. In tactical approach, students are placed in a game situation that emphasizes maintaining possesion before identifying and practicing passing, ball control, or support as solution to the problem.
