Abstract

The aim of this research is to know about Language Register that being used in the Victorian Era. 1) How Industrial Revolution effects on the language choices in a Victorian Era, 2) What the expressions of Register Language are used in the Victorian Era, and 3) How Language Register cannot be separated from the use of language styles. The design of this research is a qualitative descriptive study with content analysis to find out about the context, purposes, and content messages of utterances in the communication. Analyzing and making inferences about the utterances producers as the addressors and the audience as the addressee of the text. It has found problems in society during Victorian era, especially to harsh conditions of orphans and children during the Industrial revolution which is the main focus. 1) Realism projected in realistic characters and setting, comprehensive detail about everyday occurrences, plausible plot, dialects of community, character development, and the importance in depicting social class. These elements are the background for choosing words, choosing language in all utterances between speakers, each character. Representing the use of language in the Victorian Era. 2). Many register languages are used, there are types of Register variation expressions used, the choice of lexical in a conversation sentence that refers to the context of the situation, the context of addressee and addressors, also the typical language variation used in the Victorian era. In the context of the situation, the register also influenced of choosing the right sequence of sentences intended by the interlocutor, in a particular situation. 3). There are variety of language in utterances where style is widely used. Utterances in daily context of living in the Victorian Era occurring in every conversation between speakers. This research is expected to be useful in obtaining information about Register Language and the advantages for English second Language learner and Learning English for special purposes. Broaden vocabulary and sentences of a Register Language can affect the ability of communication skill especially speaking skill.

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to examine the Theme and Moral Values in "Closer Than Veins" by Outlandish. It is a band that originated in Denmark with Hip hop/R&B. The results of this study are to provide insight to readers about the contents of the songs, both themes and moral messages. This research is a qualitative research, where the Theme and Moral Values as independent variable while “Closer Than Veins" as dependent variable. 1). Themes are social problems 38%, moral implication 25%, Coming of age 25%, The complexity of human relationship 12%, The struggle for human dignity 6%, The truth of human nature 0%, A moral or philosophical riddle 0%. 2). Moral values are commitment to something greater than oneself 56%, while the other moral values are self-respect but humanity 25%, self-discipline and acceptance of personal responsibility 19%, respect and caring for others, caring for other living things and environment 0%.Key Words: Theme, Moral values, Song.

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to know the effect of students’ perception of learning media and vocabulary mastery toward students’ listening comprehension skills. The result of the research shows that; 1). There are significant effects of students’ perception on the use of learning media and vocabulary mastery toward students’ listening comprehension skills at the Private Colleges in Jakarta.  The significant effect was proved by the score of Sig. = 0,000< 0,05 andF0= 47.238. Both variables, the students’ perception on the use of learning media and vocabulary mastery, had a contribution of 62.4 % to the students’ listening comprehension. 2). There is a significant effect of the students’ perception of learning media toward the students listening comprehension skills at the Private Colleges in  Jakarta. Keywords: Learning media; vocabulary mastery; listening comprehension skill

Abstract

This research is a survey and aims to find out and analyze empirically the effects of reading interest and need achievement towards student's reading comprehension on English text. The observed population of this research is students from a state senior high schools in North Jakarta. The sample was simple random sampling, which means that the researcher mixed the subjects in the population so that they will be considered the same. The results of this research are: 1) There are significant effects of reading interest and need achievement altogether towards reading comprehension on English text. It is proved by Sig.= 0.000 < 0.05 and Fobserved = 63.825; 2) There is a significant effect of reading interest towards student's reading comprehension on English text. It is proved by Sig.= 0.000 < 0.05 and tobserved = 6.476; 3) There is a significant effect of need achievement towards student's reading comprehension on English text. It is proved by Sig.= 0.001 < 0.05 and tobserved = 3.469.

Abstract

This study deals with phonological analysis, which focuses on analyzing lexical and metrical stress in Maya Angelou's poem entitled 'Still I Rise.' This study explores the lexical stress and metrical stress used in Angelou's poem, which answers the research questions. This method is the qualitative method which means the data was written text. The writer intends to determine what lexical stress (primary and secondary stress) and metrical stress (iamb, trochee, and dactyl) are in the poem text. This research showed that lexical stress, namely primary stress with total numbers, is 43 items, and secondary stress with total numbers is three items. Also, there are metrical stresses, including iamb with nine items, trochee 27 items, and dactyl seven items.

Abstract

Abstract. The aim of the research is to know: 1) mistake which often in writing text descriptive. 2) mistake of usage of tense present simple in writing text descriptive..  3) mistake of usage of adjective in writing text descriptive student Senior High School in Bekasi. If is true there mistake which is signifikan hence how big mistake of simple tense present and of adjective in writing text descriptive. Method use in this research is an descriptive kualitative. Sampel of the research followed by 65 from 645 student consisting of 33 students class 8 from Junior High School 1 Tarumajaya and 32 student class 8 dan 32 8 from Junior High School 2 Tarumajaya. Data collecting is taken through test which consist of giving of tes write text of deskripsi in English and here in after analyse found by mistake is student in it. End session, 1) There are 232 mistake of tense present simple and of adjective in descriptive article of student, among others 126 mistake of tense present simple and 106 mistake of adjective. 2) Type mistake of using of tense present simple which is often conducted by student is omission of error counted 100 mistake with percentage 79 %. Of Omission Error is mistakes having the character of omission marked by absence item which ought to there in real correct and good sentence. 3) While type mistake of usage of adjective which often conducted by student is Misodering of error counted 47 mistake with percentage 44 %. Of Misodering Error caused by location which not true to morpheme group or morpheme in sentence meaning can be concluded by most of all student do mistake write  of simple tense present and almost semi from student mistake write adjective in text of deskriptive.Keywords     : Simple present tense, verb, adjective, text description

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penguasaan kosakata dan minat baca terhadap kemampuan memahami teks recount. Hipotesis penelitian yang diuji meliputi: 1) Pengaruh Penguasaan Kosakata terhadap Kemampuan Memahami Teks Recount, 2) Pengaruh Minat Baca terhadap Kemampuan Memahami Teks Recount, 3) Pengaruh Penguasaan Kosakata dan Minat Baca secara bersama-sama terhadap Kemampuan Memahami Teks Recount. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode survei dengan jumlah sampel 66 (enampuluh enam) siswa SMP Negeri di Kabupaten Indramayu.. Instrument yang digunakan adalah angket dan hasil tes bahasa Inggris bentuk pilihan ganda dengan pilihan 20 soal penguasaan kosakata dan 20 soal mengenai teks recount. Data diolah dengan menggunakan bantuan SPSS 20 dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis regresi. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian hipotesis, diperoleh kesimpulan: 1) Pengaruh Penguasaan Kosakata berpengaruh langsung terhadap Kemampuan Memahami Teks Recount, 2) Penguasaan Minat Baca berpengaruh langsung terhadap Kemampuan Memahami Teks Recount, 3) Pengaruh  Penguasaan Kosakata dan Minat Baca secara bersama-sama berpangaruh langsung terhadap Kemampuan Memahami Teks recount.             Kata kunci: Penguasaan kosakata, minat baca, teks recount.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are to find out the simultaneously influences of parents’ active participation and learning discipline towards students English learning achievement, to find out the influence of parents’ active participation towards students English learning achievement and to find out  the influence of learning discipline towards students English learning achievement. The reseach method that used is survey. The samples are 87 students who chosen randomly from all students of VII level of MTS Negeri at Cipayung Sub – Distric, East Jakarta.  The data collection are carried out by distributing quisioner. The data analysis use descriptive method, pearson multiple correlation coefficient, determination coefficient, regression analysis. The statistic test is used Fcount and Tcount. This research is implemented on April 30 th  till Mei 18th 2018. The results of this research draw: (1) Parents’ active participation and learning discipline simultaneously have positive and relevant influences towards students English learning achievement with multiple correlation coefficient r = 0,524. Parents’ active participation and learning discipline simutaneosly distribute 27,4% towards students English learning achievement through  significant multiple regression equation  = -13,777 + 0,471 X1 + 0,360 X2  with sig score 0,000 < 0,05 dan Fcount = 20.879 ; (2) Parents’ active participation has a relevant influence towards students English learning achievement. It is proven by getting sig score 0,000 < 0,05 and tcount = 4,525; (3) Learning disciple has a significat influence towards students English learning achievement. It si proven by getting score Sig. 0,000 < 0,05 dan tcount = 3,449  Key words : Parents’ active participation, Learning discipline, Learning achievement
