Abstract

A learning can run well supported by an appropriate learning model. In this study the Search Solve Create Share (SSCS) and Think Pair Share (TPS) learning models are used. This research is a quantitative study using t test. The purpose of this study is to study whether there are differences between the SSCS learning model and the TPS learning model on students' mathematical problem solving abilities. This research is a quantitative study with a research design. Random Design Group Pretest-Posttest Group. The results of this study obtained a P-value smaller than the significance level. Hypothesis testing from this study provides conclusions about the TPS learning model better than the SSCS learning model in improving students' mathematical problem solving abilities.

Abstract

There are some factors regarding which aspect of second language acquisition is affected by individual learner factors, age, learning style. aptitude, motivation, and personality. This research is about English language acquisition of fourth-year child by nature and nurture. The child acquired her second language acquisition at home and also in one of the courses in Jakarta. She schooled by her parents in order to be able to speak English well as a target language for her future time. The purpose of this paper is to see and examine individual learner difference especially in using English as a second language. This study is a library research and retrieved data collected, recorded, transcribed, and analyzed descriptively. The results can be concluded: the child is able to communicate well and also able to construct simple sentences, complex sentences, sentence statement, phrase questions, and explain something when her teacher asks her at school. She is able to communicate by making a simple sentence or compound sentence in well-form (two clauses or three clauses), even though she still not focus to use the past tense form and sometimes she forgets to put bound morpheme -s in third person singular but she can use turn-taking in her utterances. It is a very long process since the child does the second language acquisition. The family and teacher should participate and assist the child, the proven child can learn the first and the second language at the same time.

Abstract

Writing is the most difficult skill for second language learners. It can be seen, for example, they always make ageneralization, simplification, less of knowing vocabularies, punctuation, spelling,  and grammar. This paper will describe improving the students’ writing competence in second language acquisition through the implementation of lesson study in faculty of language education of Indraprasta PGRI University of Jakarta. This research uses qualitative approach and the data taken from the students who are studying writing in the class. In applying lesson study, lecturer model explains  about the materials based on the syllabus of the subject.  The students are also given tasks in their groups. The observers watch and write about the students and assist them. After doing this, the observers discuss about the class with the lecturer model.  By doing the implementation of  Lesson Study, the students can work in group together, the class is so inspiring, they feel satisfied with the explanation of the lecturer model and  havegood impact to improve the students’ writing competence.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Somatic, Auditory, Visualization and Intellectualy (SAVI) and Numbered Head Together (NHT) learning models on students' mathematical problem solving abilities. This research is included in the type of quantitative research. The research sampling technique uses the random sample method. Using the T-Test as a data processing analysis technique with a significance level α = 0,05. Obtained research results indicate that there are very significant differences in students' mathematical problem solving abilities. Students who use the NHT learning model have problem-solving abilities that are superior to students who use the SAVI learning model. This is evident from the mean value of descriptive data that is 80.88 for the NHT learning model and the SAVI learning model obtained a mean value of 68.24, in addition from the T test also concluded that there are significant values for both models.

Abstract

Speaker’s good pronunciation makes his/her listener comfortable, and confident to participate in the conversation and his/her mispronunciations bring implications to the listener’s awareness and involvement with the message spoken. The research was aimed at detecting the mispronunciations made by 70 non-native (L2) post-graduate students who were enrolled in the English department and were also school teachers in Greater Jakarta (including Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi [or commonly shortened as Jabodetabek]). They were given English texts to read, and recorded, and a semi-structured interview was applied. Error analysis was employed to check mispronunciations. The results showed that 43 students (61%) made mispronunciations and 27 (39%) didn’t. Mispronunciation was found on vowels by 4 students (5.71%), on consonants by 5 (7.14%), on diphthongs by 3 (4.28%), and on consonant clusters by 14 (20%). Most of the students made intralingual and global errors.

Abstract

This study investigated the pragmatic aspects of verbal attacks within Indonesian courtrooms, specifically examining speech acts and their alignment with Grice's maxims. While previous research has explored verbal attacks in legal contexts, this study is expected to fill a gap in the literature by focusing on the pragmatic analysis of speech acts and Grice's maxims in Indonesian settings. Using a qualitative research approach and court transcripts, the speech acts contained in this research were systematically analyzed and categorized based on the type and illocutionary force while scrutinizing their adherence to Grice's maxims. The findings reveal a diverse range of speech acts deployed during verbal attacks, including assertive challenges and veiled accusations, often involving deliberate violations of Grice's maxims. Participants strategically flout maxims, utilizing implicatures to contribute to the confrontational nature of verbal attacks. This study is also expected to advance our understanding of the pragmatic dimensions of verbal attacks in Indonesian courtrooms and to describe the strategic use of language in the legal context. It has the potential to inform legal practice, enhancing comprehension of courtroom communication and promoting more effective and respectful exchanges within the Indonesian legal system.
