Abstract

Tulisan ini menelusuri masalah sejumlah mahasiswa Tarbiyah STAIN Manado dalam membaca buku teks, terutama pada tataran kalimat. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa masalah utama mahasiswa Tarbiyah adalah keterbatasan penguasaan kosa kata. Kendala ini mengakibatkan membaca menjadi sangat sulit dan hasilnya pun tidak tepat. Mereka tampak belum terampil dan jarang memakai kamus. Masalah utama kedua adalah bahwa mereka hanya memiliki pengetahuan tentang unit-unit leksikogramatikal yang terbatas. Peranti penting yakni kata-kata gramatikal sering diabaikan sehingga sulit untuk memahami pola-pola urutan kata dalam suatu rangkaian kalimat.Kata Kunci: kata-kata gramatikal, leksikogramatikal, pola urutan kata.

Abstract

Reading skill as a part of receptive skills are given the first priority in language curriculum and in Islamic education. Reading skill is important because it is a medium of communication and a tool for learning. This study aims to find out the effectiveness of English reading material based on islamic value for Islamic higher education in IAIN of Manado, that support the students learning and coprehension the Islamic values through the English reading materials. This study applied a qualitative approach using a case study design where researcher conducted the in-depth exploration of the events, processes, and activities to one or more people who are bound by time and activity. The researcher used this type of research is due to the subject of this study is only one class of second semesters students, they are 21 students. The researcher was a key instrument who participated actively in the activities. In collecting data, the researcher used observation, interview, field note, and documentation. The data were analyzed concurrently with the data collection interactively through the process of data reduction, display and verification using domain analysis, taxonomic, conventional, and cultural theme analysis. The researcher found that with apply Islamic value in reading texts materials, beside students more easily understand it, texts Islamic value can also improve the character of students as Muslim students.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola belajar mahasiswa pekerja part time pada Program Studi Pendidikan Agama Islam Institut Agama Islam Negeri Manado dan probelamtika dalam belajar mahasiswa pekerja part time pada Program Studi Pendidikan Agama Islam Institut Agama Islam negeri Manado. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian etnografi dengan jenis penelitian kualitatif, dimana penulis berupaya untuk memaparkan aktivitas individu atau sekelompok individu dalam kesehariannya yang berkaitan dengan pola belajar, sehingga hasilnya dapat dibedakan atau dibandingkan. Metode pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis untuk menggambarkan data hasil penelitian tentang pola belajar mahasiswa pekerja part time. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan terhadap delapan orang mahasiswa pekerja part time pada Program Studi Pendidikan Agama Islam Institut Agama Islam Negeri Manado, pola belajar yang paling banyak digunakan adalah pola belajar bersama atau kelompok dan pola belajar mandiri. Sebanyak lima mahasiswa menggunakan pola belajar bersama atau kelompok dan tiga mahasiswa menggunakan pola belajar mandiri. Proses belajar sendiri tentunya tidak terlepas dari problematika atau masalah-masalah yang muncul, baik dari dalam diri mahasiswa maupun karena pengaruh dari luar. Problematika yang dialami oleh mahasiswa pekerja part time pada Program Studi Pendidikan Agama Islam Institut Agama Islam Negeri Manado dalam proses kuliah sambil bekerja part time diantaranya yaitu; kelelahan, tertundanya pengerjaan tugas-tugas perkuliahan dan dosen yang mengubah jadwal perkuliahan. di samping itu, bekerja part time juga memberikan dampak positif bagi mahasiswa, diantaranya ialah dapat menambah pengalaman, terlatih untuk memanage atau mengatur waktu dengan baik serta dapat menambah uang jajan.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out whether the implementation of Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) able to motivate students’ speaking activity or not. The researcher used classroom action research design in this study. The subject was the class VIII B of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sangkub consisting on 25 students which comprised 12 females and 13 boys. In this present research, the researcher used some instruments to collect the data, such as; Lesson Plan (RPP), Tests, observation, Interview, and documentation. In applying the test, the researcher asked the subject under the research to practice a simple dialogue about expression of giving instruction and expression of asking permission.In this research, there were three cycles, namely; Pre-Cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. Furthermore, Cycle I and II consisted on two sessions. In Pre-Cycle, the completeness percentage was low (36%) so that the present classroom action study was conducted to solve the problems of the students. The result of Cycle I showed that STAD motivated students’ speaking activity. It could be seen from the increase of the completeness percentage of Cycle I (64%). The researcher continued the research by conducting the Cycle II to revise the problem in Cycle I and the completeness percentage of Cycle II was (88%). Based on the result above, the STAD technique has a positive influence to students of class VIII B at eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sangkub speaking activity, and this STAD Technique could be used to be one of the alternative teaching techniques. Key Words: STAD, Motivate, Speaking Activity.

Abstract

The aims of this study was to improve the achievement of student’s reading comprehension at the tenth grade of language class in MAN Model 1 Manado through the implementation of three phase technique. The subjects of this research were 24 students consisted of 13 males and 11 females. The data was collected by using test and observation of students and teacher’s activity. Then, the data was analyzed by using quantitative and qualitative instrument. The result obtained in the first cycle were, the average score of post-test was 74.17 with the percentage of Mastery as 50%, the percentage score of teacher’s activity in the first meeting was 12.8 % and in the second meeting was13.2%. While in the second cycle, the average score of post- test was 85 with the percentage of Mastery as 71%, the percentage score of teacher’s activity in the first meeting was 14.4% and in the second meeting was 15.6%. From the observation of students’ activity in the first cycle displayed that the students still could not ask the question related to the materials and convey a summary. On the other hand, in the second cycle based on the checklist, the students have accomplished all the indicators on the observation.Keywords: Three Phase Technique, Reading Comprehension

Abstract

Various Utilization of Textbooks as Media for Learning English in Bitung City, North Sulawesi. This study aims to determine the criteria for determining textbooks as a media for learning English and the benefits, weaknesses, and advantages of textbooks. This research is qualitative and descriptive. The data collection techniques use in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that textbooks have a role as learning media in the teaching and learning process. 1) Criteria in selecting textbooks are: a) relevant to the curriculum, b) the material in textbooks is productive and receptive, c) The textbook material is based on the basic principles of learning foreign languages, d) Engaging content with media images in it, e) Have various types of evaluation that can measure learning achievement. 2) Using textbooks as media, learning resources, and learning evaluation tools. 3) Weaknesses and strengths of textbooks as a media for learning English a) unavailability of textbooks for each student, b) much material. Utilization Textbooks have advantages a) have a complete side, b) make it easier for teachers to deliver material, and visualization c) have varied questions
