Abstract

The purposes of this research are to find out how are the conservation efforts, the human resources, the facilities and infrastructure, the process of obtaining the funding and the role of the government/stakeholders in preserving and improving the performance of the traditional sport named Sumpitan. This research is a descriptive qualitative with ethnographic design which using critical ethnography type. The data were collected using interviews, observation and documentation. The subjects of this research include administrators, coaches, athletes and supporting staff, Department of Youth, Sport and Tourism, Department of Education, Indonesian Sport and Recreation Committee (KORMI), Indonesian Traditional Games and Sport Committee (KPOTI) of Samarinda City. The validity of the data was done by implementing some steps including data collection, data reduction, data presentation and draw conclusion. There are several results of the research. Firstly, the Government of the Samarinda City rarely holds Sumpitan traditional sport events, coaching and improvement which have not been included in the local content curriculum of elementary, junior and senior high schools. Next, lack of attention dealing with funding and infrastructure support thus the operational costs use donations from community members. The minimum number of administrators, coaches, and regeneration of new athletes. The last is the lack of public awareness of the improvement and preservation in the implementation of cultural activities or traditional sports Sumpitan. the conclusions of this study are involvement that are not yet optimal, Lack of human resources, there is a change in culture, socio-cultural shift.

Abstract

Female English teachers make significant contributions to their field, yet stories about them are under-researched. This paper presents the framework of an ongoing narrative inquiry aimed at understanding female teachers’ agency and its role in their professional identity construction during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on a systematic review of relevant research, the framework displays several key themes, including the significance of active learning and digital literacies, and the scarcity of narrative inquiries into female teachers. We thus argue that in order to gain insights into post-pandemic pedagogy, there is a need for studies that depict female English teachers’ agency in enacting their pedagogical competencies and showcase their continuous efforts in constructing their professional identities, despite the challenges that they face. Against the backdrop of our review, the teacher education curriculum must include course(s) on agency and identity construction.

Abstract

Studi penerjemahan menjadi salah satu bagian penting dalam pembelajaran bahasa. Sebagaimana empat keterampilan bahasa (mendengarkan, berbicara, membaca, menulis), penerjemahan juga perlu diajarkan kepada pelajar EFL. Seiring dengan keempat keterampilan dasar tersebut, keterampilan menerjemahkan akan meningkatkan kompetensi bahasa asing peserta didik. Jadi, mengajar penerjemahan kepada pembelajar EFL tidak hanya akan memberikan pengetahuan tetapi juga mengembangkan kompetensi bahasa pembelajar. Dalam menerjemahkan suatu bahasa, seorang penerjemah harus mampu menyampaikan keseluruhan makna dari setiap klausa, khususnya kompleks klausa, di samping memahami bahasa sumber dan bahasa sasaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesulitan yang dihadapi dosen dan mahasiswa pada pengajaran clause complex di kelas penerjemahan dan solusi untuk mengatasi kesulitan tersebut. Penelitian kualitatif deskriptif digunakan untuk melakukan penelitian ini. Data dikumpulkan dari kelas penerjemahan Program Sekolah Bahasa Inggris yang diselenggarakan oleh Ma’had Al Jami’ah IAIN Kudus. Beberapa teknik yang dilakukan untuk mengumpulkan data yaitu observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara dengan santri Ma’had. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa beberapa kesulitan terkait kompleks klausa muncul di kelas penerjemahan. Sebagian besar mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan karena rendahnya penguasaan kosakata serta tata bahasa dan sulit menemukan padanan makna dalam bahasa target. Sementara itu, dosen mengalami kesulitan dalam menemukan metode dan teknik yang tepat untuk mengajar penerjemahan khususnya terkait dengan clause complex. Untuk mengatasi masalah ini, beberapa solusi dibahas secara rinci yang dapat digunakan dosen sebagai panduan ketika mengajar penerjemahan.

Abstract

Semenjak covid 19 kebanyakan proses belajar mengajar dilakukan secara online. Dan setelah covid 19 hilang proses belajar mengajar dilakukan secara tatap muka kembali. Hal ini mempunyai pengaruh terhadap guru apalagi terhadap siswa sekolah dasar yang baru tamat dan melanjutkan ketiingkat sekolah menengah tingkat pertama (SMP). Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini adalahuntuk mengetahui pengaruh scrambled word yang diberikan pada siswa dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris.Metode penelitian ini adalah dengan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan kuasi eksperimental desain. Adapun jumlah populasi adalah 57 siswa yang terdiri dari 30 siswa laki-laki untuk kelas kontrol dan 27 siswa perempuan untuk kelas treatment. Jadi untuk sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah sebanyak 27 siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMP Juara Pekanbaru di kelas 7. Analisa data dilakukan dengan SPSS versi 2.3.Hasil dari penelitian ditemukan bahwasanya screambled word sangat mempengaruhi penguasaan kosa kata siswa dalam belejar Bahasa Inggris. Untuk hasil rata-rata pre-test untuk kelas treatment adalah 48.519 dan nilai rata pre-test untuk kelas kontrol adalah 67.333. Sedangkan nilai rata-rata untuk kelas post-test di kelas kontrol adalah 74.000 dan untuk di kelas treatment adalah 77.407. Hal ini dapat disimpulkan bahwasanya setelah diberikan treatment nilai individu dan nilai rata-rata siswa naik yang di awalnya pada level kurang sekarang pada level baik. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat bermanfaat bagi siswa, guru dan peneliti selenjutnya. Untuk kedepannya bisa menambahkan mengapa masih terjadi juga kesalahan dalam mengerjakan latihan scrambled untuk pengusaan kosakata Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Mindfulness adalah sebuah pendekatan dalam pembelajaran bahasa asing yang menstimulasi kreativitas dan produktivitas berbahasa. Penelitian menunjukkan mindfulness meningkatkan fokus belajar, memperluas perspektif, menciptakan ketenangan, dan kedamaian belajar. Mindfulness memiliki empat aspek yaitu menemukan pengetahuan baru, menemukan konteks, menemukan perspektif baru, dan menciptakan hal baru. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana mindfulness membantu pembelajar bahasa asing untuk menemukan kebaruan, menemukan konteks, menemukan perspektif baru, dan menciptakan hal baru. Penelitian ini menggunakan mindfulness sebagai sebuah pendekatan pembelajaran dengan media poetry. Adapun metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah narrative inquiry. Metode ini digunakan untuk menemukan proses di balik penulisan poetry. Melalui metode ini, pembelajar menceritakan pengalamannya menulis poetry. Narrative inquiry memberikan konteks bagaimana pembelajar menciptakan poetry sebagai hasil belajarnya. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa mindfulness mampu menstimulasi pembelajar untuk mengembangkan pengetahuan baru, menemukan konteks, menemukan perspektif, dan menciptakan hal baru. Implikasinya bagi pembelajaran bahasa adalah mindfulness dapat mengembangkan potensi pembelajar bahasa untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajarannya.

Abstract

The teaching and learning process has changed from in-person instruction to online learning during the Covid 19 outbreak. EFL lecturers should utilize a variety of media for teaching English, particularly for instruction on productive skills. The paper aims to investigate the Indonesian EFL lecturers’ views on utilizing media for English productive skills instructions amidst online learning. This study emphasized the implementation of the media for teaching productive skills, how to assess students' productive skills, how students' motivation during online learning, and students' ability to use clause complexes in English productive skills. This research relied on a qualitative study. A structured questionnaire was employed to collect the data. Eight lecturers from several universities contributed the information as research data. The current study yielded a range of findings. First, various media were employed for synchronous and asynchronous learning in order to discuss the teaching materials, give quizzes, and submit students’ assignments. Second, assessments for speaking instruction were conducted through students’ performances utilizing video conferencing tools, but assessments for writing instruction were conducted through asynchronous learning using Google Classroom or the university's LMS. Third, during online learning, students have less motivation in productive skills classes and their ability to use clause complexes in productive skills is decreasing.

Abstract

This article aims at finding out how the EFL in-service teachers reflect their teaching practice and what can be learned by EFL in-service teachers about reflecting their reflective practice to their teacher professional development. Two in-service teachers at an Indonesian university participated in this study. The data in this study are collected from Narrative questionnaire on critical reflection of classroom practice, and in-depth interview. The qualitative data are the in-service teachers’ critical reflection dealing with their teaching practice. The finding of the research show that the incident was analyzed using Appraisal theory by Martin & White (2005) becomes a reference for finding out what aspects of lecturer competence they want to target. Continuous reflection should be conducted to make better teaching learning process, so that he can get the impact of reflection activities maximally. Thus, it becomes endeavor for teacher professional development.

Abstract

Abstrak. Multimodal paralanguage is related to multi resources of nonphonemic properties in communication activities. As part of the non-verbal aspect, paralanguage is considered a crucial technique for the success of the presentational activity. In this case, a group of ELT students at a certain university had concerns about transferring information that caused their presentation performance. Therefore, this study aims to reveal the implementation of paralanguage components by entailing multimodal features in conveying effective meaning. The subject of this study is a representative group of ELT students at a certain university. Qualitative research is used with observation and recording as the data collection method. The steps in analyzing the data are adopted from Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014), including data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion (drawing or verifying). The findings revealed distinctive components of paralanguage used by the students during the presentation. The implemented components include voice qualities, vocal characteristics, and vocal segregation. Multimodal features are implemented as a strategy for improvisation in communication. Furthermore, this study can be advantageous as a reference for each person who will act as a presenter or speaker to enhance their presentational skill.
