Abstract

Liké geleng is a practice of traditions among the Aneuk Jamè ethnic group in Aceh. The implementation of Liké geleng tradition consisted of many traditions included the commemoration of Maulid Nabi. This study discusses the implementation of Liké geleng and its relationship with strengthening social cohesion among the Aneuk Jamè ethnic group in Kampung Balai, Samadua, South Aceh. This research objective is to explore the traditions within the Liké geleng and how the implementation of the traditions among the Aneuk Jamè ethnic community. The informants consisted of religious leaders, traditional leaders, women leaders, and the community involved in carrying out the Maulid Nabi memorial in the village. Applying the method of qualitative research, the results of the study showed that the implementation of Liké geleng among the Aneuk Jamè ethnic group as an activity in commemoration of the Maulid Nabi Muhammad is an activity that can strengthen social cohesion in the community. This is indicated by the development of closer friendship and kinship, increasingly frequent social interactions, and stronger cooperation between communities. This result proved that tradition may strengthen social cohesion by doing the tradition together.

Abstract

Tragedy is a negative word, describing an unwanted event that still occurred; the negatifity of tragedy is seen form the destructive effect it caused such as destruction, death, and disappointment. This paper try to address tragedy not just from the negative side but from the starting point of tragedy from point of view Friedrich Nietzsche, Nietzsche sees tragedy originally derived from the theatre of art, between visual art such as sculpture and non visual art such as music, this paper uses descriptive analytic with main focus on the book of Nietzsche The Birth of Tragedy, to find the contect of tragedy in the world of arts specifically and culture generally.

Abstract

Penan Jeb tradition is a unique tradition of Gayo Lues people, this tradition is commonly held along together with others religious ritual such as Eid Al Adha, mauled (birth of the prophet) and aqiqah (ritual of new-born), as a tradition that has been regulated from generation to generation, Penan Jeb has developed new form and pattern along the way, for instance the declining of ritual held in every household and the adding of modern snack to its menu which normally consist of traditional cookies, this study aimed to find an answer to some questions of historical background of Penan Jeb tradition, the processing of ritual Penan Jeb, its development and its significance meanings, this study uses qualitative method of  analytical description, the results of study show that the reason behind the declining of Penan Jeb proceeding is due to practical factor, before, Penan Jeb was held in every household, now people prepare the food and cookies and bring it to the pesantren (Islamic boarding school) to be held in one centralized place.

Abstract

this study focus on tradition of melengkan in marriage culture of Gayonese society. The main issues of this study are the background of melengkan, the process of melengkan ritual and the process of preservation melengkan tradition. The aims of study are to know detail of the background, ritual procession and preservation of melengkan tradition. This study uses qualitative approaches of observation, interview and documentation. Data are analyzed through inductive qualitative approach. The results show that melengkan is part of local wisdom in system marriage tradition of Gayonese. Melengkan is art of speech or poems by using specific Gayo language. The processions are in two phase (1) during proposing of marriage (2) the ritual of delivering bride and groom. This tradition is not being performed if the marriage took place in religious affair office, but melengkan still performed if the marriages are held in personal house or in meunasah, the preservation efforts are including the competition of melengkan, socialization in community and schools, especially in school by adding special subject in class for study basic of melengkan.

Abstract

This paper is entitled The Existence of Javanese Ethnic in the Town of Jantho. This scientific study focuses on the history of the existence of Javanese ethnic during the transmigration program to the Town of Jantho Aceh Besar. The purpose of this paper is to examine further the identification of the number of Javanese Ethnic, fields of livelihood, ethnic interaction with local communities, and factors supporting and inhibiting the existence of Javanese Ethnic. The research used a qualitative approach with observation, interview, and documentation. The data were analyzed through a descriptive qualitative approach. The results showed that the transmigration process in Aceh began during the New Order era. The presence of Javanese ethnics to Jantho through various stages under the direction of government programs starting through providing various kinds of infrastructures. The type of economy they develop is agriculture/plantation, household economy, traders, and others. This is advantageous for them compared to their narrow area of ​​employment in Java. Javanese ethnic maintains harmony among each other well. The supporting factors consist of infrastructure, mixed marriage, culture, and social, while the inhibiting factor is conflict.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to learn more about how the Thaipusam Tamil Hindu festival is celebrated in Banda Aceh, as well as how the people of Banda Aceh feel about it. The Thaipussam ritual is a Hindu religious ceremony that the Tamil ethnic minority follows. This ceremony is performed as a thank you to Lord Murugan or Lord Subramanyam, who gives life with safety, tranquility, and prosperity. This rite is also performed as a penance and on the day when vows are paid. This study employed a qualitative approach, including observation, interviews, and documentation as tools. The acquired data was analyzed using techniques such as data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. The findings of this study show that the Thaipusam ritual is not just a religious activity for the Tamil people of Banda Aceh, but also an ethnic identity. Despite being a minority, this tradition makes the Tamil ethnic group's existence in Banda Aceh known, ensuring that ordinary people are not disturbed by the celebration. The contact between Tamil Hindus and other religious communities has never been tense or contentious. They all live in peace and love, never interfering with or mocking one another's religious beliefs.

Abstract

Abstract: The existence of ulama and dayah in political dynamics in Aceh has occurred for a long time, simultaneously with the development of Islam in Aceh. Ulama in Aceh has been playing as the main actors behind the successful political indicator in many phases, namely; empire phase, independence phase, new order (orde baru) phase until the phase of reformation. The doctrines played by ulama through religious languages have received great support from people in Aceh. This study employs the qualitative research approach with three main techniques of data collection, namely interview, observation and documentation. The result showed that there has been the participation from ulama and santri dayah in Aceh during 2019 General Election (GE). Such participation was reflected from the full support from ulama by calling up the political machine from santri dayah during 2019 GE, and deciding a political attitude by taking side on one of the candidates by holding a fundamental belief that Islam does not forbid ulama to participate in the political practice. Abstrak: Eksistensi ulama dan dayah dalam dinamika perpolitikan di Aceh telah berlangsung sejak lama, seiring berkembangnya Islam di Aceh. Dari berbagai fae perkembangan perpolitikan di Aceh, dari fase kerajaan, fase kemerdekaan, fase orde baru hingga fase reformasi telah ditemukan pula indikator suksesnya politik di Aceh akibat permainan aktor utama yaitu ulama. Ulama melalui doktrin-doktrin yang disebarkan melalui bahasa-bahasa agama, sehingga mendapat dukungan penuh dari kalangan masyarakat di Aceh. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data tiga macam cara yaitu wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat partisipasi ulama dan santri dayah di Aceh pada Pemilu 2019. Partisipasi tersebut tampak terhadap dukungan penuh ulama dengan mengerahkan “mesin politik” yaitu santri dayah terhadap Pemilu 2019, dan mengambil sikap politik berpihak kepada salah satu calon dalam Pemilu 2019 dengan landasan utama berpijak bahwa Islam tidak melarang ulama berpolitik. Keywords: ulama, santri, dayah, politics, general election, Aceh
