Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impacts and causal relationship between inbound tourism activities and macroeconomic variables on environmental degradation and  to analyze the environmental degradation response due to shocks that occur in inbound tourism activities and macroeconomic variables in four countries with the highest international tourist visits in the ASEAN region of Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand known as ASEAN-4 for Periode 1995-2015. The method used in the research is panel vector error correction model (PVECM). The results showed that inbound tourism activities positively influence in the long-term and short-term  environmental degradation in ASEAN-4. Among  macroeconomic variables only gross domestic product (GDP) positively affects environmental degradation in the long term and short term whereas energy consumption only affects environmental degradation in the short term. There is a direct causal relationship of inbound  tourism activity with environmental degradation and environmental degradation with GDP. Energy consumption and environmental degradation manifest  bidirectional causality with a feedback effect. Impulse response function indicates environmental degradation responds negatively to the shocks that occur in Inbound tourism and GDP activities. The positive response is indicated by environmental degradation in case of shock to energy consumption.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the global financial crisis in 2008 has an impact on the instability of banks, so the banking industry is changes. The emerging change of the banking industry, as a result of the bank's efforts to increase profitability. The structure- conduct-performance analysis becomes an appropriate paradigm for analyzing changes in the banking industry using three minds: traditional hypotheses, differentiation hypotheses, and efficiency hypotheses. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of market structure and behavior variables on banking profitability. The method used in this study was the calculation of the ratio of concentration, HHI, and fixed effect model in the banking industry of Indonesian and the Philippines. The results of this study indicated that the market structure of the Indonesian banking industry was in a strict oligopoly condition so that it undergoes a change towards increasingly concentrated competition and into the traditional hypotheses, where the concentration ratio (CR4) could affect the ROA. In addition, NIM and CAR had a significantly positive effect, but LDR and NPL had no significantly negative effect on profitability. Other findings indicated that market structure of the Philippine banking industry was in a loose oligopoly condition affecting to experience efficiently competition and categoried into the efficiently hypotheses, where market share (MS) could affect ROA. In addition, NIM had no significantly positive effect, CAR had significantly positive effect, NPL and negative LDR had no significant effect on profitability. Abstract

Globalization in economic has an impact on the massive movement of foreign direct (FDI) and indirect (Foriegn Private Investment / FPI) investments in developing countries in the world. By intensive margin government and authority in each country utilizes these conditions as development capital and technology transfer, while for extensive margin foreign investment are used to maintain a conducive relationship between investors and investment destination countries. Foreign investment is an important part of development especially for developing countries. For ASEAN 4 countries investment is very useful as a driver of the national economy, so the consideration of a stable investment climate and macroeconomic environment is important in policy formulation. The method used to analyze the relationship to the intensive and extensive margins of FDI and FPI in ASEAN 4 is the Panel Least Square (PLS) with annual panel data from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand from 2003 to 2015. The estimation results show that on extensive margins GDP show a positive and significant effect on FDI. While on the FPI model estimation, the three proxy variables (Index Perception Corruption (IPK), Inflation Rate (TI), and lending rate) used indicate a positive direction towards FPI on intensive and extensive margins, but only IPK variable that have positive and significant influence. This is indicated by probalitity value less than 5% (0.05) that is equal to (0.005).Keywords : Extensive Margin, Foreign Direct Investment, Foreign Private Investment, Intensive Margin, Panel Least Square.

Abstract

In the mangrove forest ecosystem in the Java Island Coastal Area, there are shrimp and fish ponds owned by the community. Mangrove formations in coastal areas are generally the same, which is Avicennia spp, and are found from the boundaries of residential villages to far ahead of pond areas, specifically on aanslibbing which is the result of sedimentation from the coast and deposition from the sea. The Total Economic Value of mangrove ecosystems in the coastal area of Kraton District, Pasuruan Regency is the sum of benefit values, such as Direct Use Value, Indirect Use Value, Option Value, and Existence Value. The results of this study explained that the indirect benefits of mangrove forest ecosystems in Kraton District, Pasuruan Regency have the largest percentage which is 90.74% with a value of Rp. 4,807,905,315.53/year. The value of the greatest indirect benefits explains the ecological benefits of mangrove forests which are the greatest compared to economic and social benefits. Meanwhile, direct benefits are the second largest with a value of Rp. 185,145,655.00. This considerable value is due to the large value of the benefits of other biotas around the mangrove ecosystem. The total value of these direct benefits directly provides an indicator of economic benefits. The same result was also obtained from research conducted by Rangkuti (2013) where mangrove cover significantly contributed to daily shrimp and crab/biota catches (99% confidence interval). Furthermore, other benefits were identified, such as the benefits of choice and the benefits of existence. The results of the quantification of other benefits obtained successively the value of the optional benefit of Rp. 16,440,975.00/year (3.97%) and the value of the existence benefit of Rp. 20,782,079.29/year (0.52%). The comparison of the benefits generated from the mangrove forest ecosystem further strengthens that the ecological value of the mangrove forest is the greatest. Therefore, the community should be aware of the importance of managing the mangrove ecosystem while maintaining its sustainability. This means that the change in the mangrove forest ecosystem by becoming a shrimp pond system will be ecologically resistant and the real impact is the damage to the coastal environment which is no longer a barrier from waves crashing on the edge of the mainland.

Abstract

Village development can be achieved if it is balanced with an increase in the quality of human resources for village officials who are qualified and visionary. One of the villages in Bondowoso Regency, namely Pakisan Village, Tlogosari District, has the potential for natural and economic resources that have not been managed properly so that the village is not yet advanced and independent. One of the obstacles that has made Pakisan Village, Tlogosari Subdistrict, not yet advanced and independent is the not yet optimal village development planning system built by village officials. This causes natural and economic potential not to be managed properly. One of the things that is done to realize village development planning is the quality of human resources for village officials who must have a professional and visionary attitude. In reality, there are still many village governments that still have low professionalism and a lack of innovation and creativity. So that the management of village potential is still not optimal. Village potential in Pakisan Village, Tlogosari District, Bondowoso Regency is the strength and capability of the village which can provide benefits if managed properly to improve the welfare of the local community.
