Abstract

This research has main objectives to identify the Cockney and Received Pronunciation accents in My Fair Lady movie spoken by Eliza Doolittle and Professor Henry Higgins. Also, the objective is to find the correlation between the accents and the social backgrounds of both speakers. The result of this research shows that the accents indeed can indicate Eliza and Higgins? social backgrounds. There are several characteristics that can distinct the Cockney and Received Pronunciation, such as H-dropping, Th- fronting, Diphthong shifting, and G- dropping. Eliza and Henry Higgins speak different accents because they come from different regions in London. Besides, from their accents, it is shown that Eliza  with her strong Cockney accent comes from lower class while Henry Higgins with his Received Pronunciation accent comes  from upper class. Furthermore, the correlation between accents and social backgrounds is also analyzed in this research. Key Words: Accent, Cockney, Received Pronunciation

Abstract

The thesis writer focuses on the analysis swear words used by John Bennett in Ted 2 movie script. The objectives of the study are, to find out the types of swear word used by john Bennett in Ted 2I movie script, and  the reasons of John Bennett using swear words in Ted 2 movie script. The thesis writer applies the theory Liedlich (1973) to find the types of Swearing and applies the theory of Neel Burton (2012) to find The Reasons of Swearing and the thesis writer also applies a qualitative research.Key Word: Swear Words, Ted 2 Movie script

Abstract

This article aimed to find out the vocabulary mastery on food and drink by the 4th Grade students of Bunga Elementary School, Sidoarjo. This thesis uses quantitative research because it is focused on number and analyzing data. The thesis writer uses written test to gather the data from the 4th grade students of Bunga Elementary School, Sidoarjo. After conducting, the thesis writer takes the student?s test paper to analyze how far the students have mastered vocabulary of food and drink. The test consists of 36 Items, divided into three parts. Part 1 is pictures matching, part 2 is blanks filling, and part 3 is essay. Each part has 12 numbers of questions with pictures of food and drink. The thesis writer finds that there are 9 students participate on the test. There are 1 student who gets B+(11.11%), 2 students who get B (22.22%), 1 students who get C (11.11%), 4 students who get D (44.44%), and 1student who gets E (11.11%). It can be concluded that there are 4 students who pass the test and 5 students who fail in mastering vocabulary. He hopes that this thesis could be a guide for teachers and students to improve theirvocabulary.Keywords: vocabulary, mastery, ability
