Abstract

As a part of the Agrilab Inclusive farming programme, Pusat Rehabilitasi Yakum collaborated with the Institute for Research and Community Service, Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana in assisting the design and development of the inclusive mushroom house which is owned by the farmers under the Yakkum Difable Person Organisation in Cangkep Lor, Purworejo. The design process was conducted by utilizing the participatory design method. The enquiry phase included the determination of the most demanding capabilities in the mushroom-farming context. The problems were mainly found in accessibility. For instance, the visually impaired farmer required non-visual stimulus. In addition, motion or space adjustment was also needed by wheelchair-using farmers. The action-research method in this programme intended to develop a mushroom house with adequate, accessible pathways and an automatic misting system that eased the difficulties faced by farmers with disabilities. The results showed that the solutions increased the productivity of mushroom farming, promoted a positive experience in mushroom cultivation both for farmers with and without disabilities. The participation of mushroom farmers during the design process was the key to the sustainable mushroom house. This approach allowed the mushroom farmers to understand the inclusive design principles and to adjust the design to meet their capabilities and local sources. Therefore, they could accommodate maintenance and implement future development independently.

Abstract

Freedom to Learn and Independent Campus (Merdeka Belajar- Kampus Merdeka or MBKM) was established by Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) in 2020, creating challenges for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). HEIs needs adaptation strategies to set up and implement the program. This article aims to discuss the adaptation strategies to be consider by HEIs in order to implement participative and collaborative learning for the new curriculum framework, especially in design-based study program for architecture major. Data collection method was done by survey, distributed questionnaires, interviewing the curriculum executant, and literature study. Data analysis was carried out using quantitative distributive method for questionnaires and qualitative textual analysis for interview data. As the result, there are five adaptation strategies found. They are (1) identifying similar program that already been conducted, (2) giving students freedom to choose by providing variation of program, (3) constructing a set of devices to perform the new curriculum, (4) integrating program funding with funder, and (5) starting simple activitties.

Abstract

The increasing rate of population growth and urbanization resulted in a shift in the function of agricultural land into residential areas which r has an impact on the occurrence of a food crisis due to population growth that is not balanced with the rate of food production. One of the efforts to grow food self-sufficiency in urban areas, especially on narrow land, is to practice urban agriculture. This study aims to determine the priority for the development of products that support the productivity of urban farming practices with the case study in the city of Yogyakarta. Data was collected through a survey with a sample of 25 households in RW 3 Tompeyan, Tegalrejo District, Yogyakarta City, who practice urban farming. Data were analyzed quantitatively distributively to find a trend of significance. The results of the study show that products that support plant watering, development of planting containers, and products that facilitate the application of waste in urban agriculture are top priorities that designers and manufacturers of agricultural equipment must develop to support urban farming practices in the City of Yogyakarta, as well as in other regions in Indonesia. with similar characteristics.

Abstract

Worship is essential to every human being, but finding a house with a particular prayer room is still rare. This study seeks to capture the various phenomena of worship in the dwelling, consisting of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. In general, the choice of space for prayer at home stems from intrinsic motivation from within. This research seeks to find extrinsic motivation, a characteristic of the environment that is then analyzed and compiled into design principles. This research was conducted using a qualitative grounded theory approach. The data were collected by distributing open questionnaires freely (non-random sampling). The data obtained from 192 respondents were analyzed using content analysis, which was carried out in three stages: open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The investigation found seven (seven) designs for unique prayer rooms in the house. These principles include comfort, privacy, tranquility, minimal distraction, flexibility, cleanliness, and closeness. This study also revealed that a particular room for worship could increase religious activities at home and interaction between family members in spiritual and religious aspects

Abstract

The implementation of Community Activity Restrictions set by the government during the COVID-19 pandemic encouraged people to pursue gardening as a hobby while undergoing independent isolation or quarantine at home. The increasing selling price of ornamental plants and the emergence of various equipment products mark the guard. This study aims to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on increasing the hobby of gardening and to identify consumer preferences in purchasing gardening equipment products. The benefit of this research is to produce recommendations for gardening equipment designs that are desirable to consumers. Quantitative methods were used to describe trends in consumer behavior through online surveys of one hundred people who have a gardening hobby. Based on the analysis of the questionnaire, it is known that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the gardening hobby in the community. The three most essential tools in gardening are pots, watering tools, and shelves. In choosing a pot, the prominent factors considered by consumers are design, material, and price. The types of pots most respondents chose were plain earthenware pots and white plastic pots. Most respondents choose high-straight iron and wood-iron shelves or minimalist iron shelves. Regarding to pot decorations, respondents chose metal-wood pot stand, or rattan pot stand, over other decorative products such as pot hangers or fabric pot covers.
