Abstract

Islamic banking financing is carried out into three categories, namely financing based on economic sectors, financing based on contracts, and financing based on types of use. The funding is faced with risks where the customer is unable to pay the loan. This study discusses the forecasting of Islamic banking problem financing in Indonesia using monthly data from 2003 to 2019. Prediction is made using the Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity-Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (ARCH-GARCH) method. Forecasting from the results of this study shows that non-performing financing tends to decrease in Indonesia. Islamic banking has been able to manage problem financing well. Islamic banking financing should be focused on sectors that have low risk. The results of this study are undoubtedly useful for stakeholders to make policies to improve the quality of the funding.

Abstract

The stock market has a strategic role in the development of a country's economy in the era of globalization, including the Islamic stock market. The rapid growth of the Islamic stock market, especially in developing countries, is a historical record in Indonesia's financial sector. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the return of the Indonesian Sharia Stock Index (ISSI) in the short and long term, how long shocks occur, and how much the contribution of these factors. This study uses monthly time series data from January 2012 to December 2019 using the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) method. VECM estimation results show the price of gold has a significant effect on the short and long term, while inflation has an impact on a long time. ISSI's return quickly reaches stability when it receives a shock from the exchange rate. The price of gold dominates the diversity of ISSI's performances. Stakeholders should consider several things that affect the ISSI return, pay attention to the economic climate, and anticipate quickly the shock that occurs.

Abstract

Hedging is a derivative instrument in the form of actions used to minimize risks due to fluctuations in foreign currencies, interest rates, and commodity prices. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence hedging in agricultural sector companies using the panel data method in the form of quarterly from 7 companies from 2013 to 2019. The study results show growth opportunity, financial distress, debt, leverage, firm size, liquidity, profitability, and dividend payout ratio significantly influence the use of hedging. This study's results indicate that agricultural sector companies as a whole use hedging to protect against future risk exposures. Besides, it is necessary to know the factors that influence making decisions using hedging. This study recommends that companies increase export productivity balanced with appropriate hedging policies to improve company performance.

Abstract

As the most prominent Muslim majority country globally, Ramadan is a viral religious celebration in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the effect of the month of Ramadan on the performance of Islamic stocks in food and beverage companies. This study uses the event study method with a paired sample t-test as a test instrument. Sharia stock performance uses variable returns, abnormal returns, trading volume activity, and variability of securities returns from 2013-2020 during Shaban, Ramadan, and Syawal. This study indicates that the return variable and trading volume activity have a significant difference at the moment and after the month of Ramadan. In contrast, the other tests have no difference. Directly, during the month of Ramadan, the level of public consumption increases along with increasing needs. Indirectly, the traditions of the month of Ramadan also affect performance in the capital market. This phenomenon will affect sentiment in stock transactions based on the festive atmosphere brought by the month of Ramadan.

This study aims to shed some light on the influence of economic indicators and the financing response to agriculture sector using monthly data from 2006 to 2020, including data from agriculture sector financing, interest rates, inflation, exchange rates, Islamic stock index, and composite stock index. This study employed Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) method. The results revealed that only interest rates and inflation affected Islamic bank financing in the short and long term period. Islamic bank financing in the agriculture sector reached the fastest stability when responding to exchange rate shocks. The results further showed that interest rates mostly influenced the level of diversity in Islamic bank financing in the agriculture sector. The results suggest that stakeholders need to play a crucial role in stabilizing economic turmoil to accelerate Islamic bank financing particularly in agriculture sector.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the movement of macroeconomic variables on financing using the musharaka contract on Islamic banks. This study consists of sharia commercial banks and sharia business units using monthly data from January 2004 to December 2019. This study uses Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) to answer the research objectives. All variables tested have an influence on financing using the musharaka contract. Financing using the musharaka contract responds negatively to movements in the exchange rate and interest rates while inflation responds positively and negatively. Islamic banking needs to prepare more reserve funds in the face of such movements before achieving stability. The musharaka contract financing itself dominates the forecasting then followed by interest rates, inflation, and exchange rates. Therefore, Islamic banking needs to prepare a reserve fund in the face of these shocks before achieving stability. Abstract

Along with the large number of investors transacting on Islamic stocks, stock prices' movement becomes more volatile. The purpose of this research is to examine the behavior of volatility patterns in shares incorporated in the Jakarta Islamic Index using the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) model. This study uses daily data from six stocks in the Jakarta Islamic Index during the period of January 1, 2009, to December 31, 2019. Data volatility is seen using the GARCH model. Estimation results for daily data show that the volatility of ASII, SMGR, TLKM, UNTR, and UNVR shares is influenced by the previous day's error and return volatility. This is indicated by the GARCH effect on each regression result. The study results are beneficial for an investor, and invest with a low level of risk can choose TLKM shares. Nevertheless, if going to get a high level of return can invest in UNTR shares. For securities, analysis can use the GARCH model tested to predict volatility in the Jakarta Islamic Index.
