Abstract

Writing might be a complex skill for the students rather than other three skills because there are many aspects that have to understand. Thus, to help students’ difficulty on writing, it needs the effective and efficient technique in teaching and learning process. This study aims to find out whether there is a significant improvement on students’ scores on writing ability through Tea Party Technique using English song. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Malang, and the sample was eleventh grade students of Science 1. Classroom Action Research was used as a research design. The technique included of planning, action, observing, and reflecting phases, and the research was applied in three cycles. The result of this study shows that there is significant improvement of students’ writing skill. It can be seen on students’ score in pre-test, middle test, and post-test. The average score of the students grew by 4.27 between the pre-test and middle test, and by 15.24 between the middle test and post-test. In short, the integration of the Tea Party Technique with English song can enhance students' writing skills, especially in writing descriptive text.

Abstract

Kemampuan warga desa Banjartengah Desa Sumbersekar Kecamatan Dau untuk berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris sangat bermanfaat dalam melayani para wisatawan baik domestik maupun internasional. Kunjungan wisatawan tersebut dapat menambah tingkat kesejahteraan warga desa dengan cara mengenalkan potensi desa kepada mereka. Sehingga dipandang perlu untuk memberikan pelatihan kepada para tutor yang ada di Omah Wacan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris mereka. Oleh karena itu, Pengabdian dan Pendampingan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan Pelatihan dan Pendampingan dalam membantu Omah Wacan untuk lebih memiliki keterampilan dalam meningkatkan tingkat penguasaan bahasa Inggris warga desanya. Pelatihan dan pendampingan ini dilakukan dengan mengenalkan metode percakapan (conversation) kepada para pengajar di Omah Wacan agar dapat lebih efektif dalam memberikan pelatihan bahasa Inggris percakapan kepada warga desa. Selain itu, warga desa Sumbersekar Kecamatan Dau, bisa menggunakan bahan ajar yang langsung diterapkan dalam percakapan keseharian mereka sehingga menjadi terlatih ketika para wisatawan mulai mengenal dan mengunjungi desa mereka.

Abstract

Pandemi Covid-19 menyebabkan penurunan produktivitas dan pendapatan UMKM akibat pembatasan sosial dan ekonomi serta kesulitan dalam memenuhi bahan baku, distribusi produk, dan menjaga kebersihan di tempat kerja. Selain itu, UMKM juga menghadapi penurunan permintaan atas produk mereka, terutama produk non-kebutuhan pokok, dan kesulitan mengakses pembiayaan karena kurangnya pengetahuan dan praktik pembukuan keuangan yang baik. Dengan adanya masalah-masalah tersebut, penting untuk dilakukan sosialisasi dan pelatihan mengenai pembukuan keuangan kepada UMKM dan masyarakat desa. Hal ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan pemahaman dan pengelolaan keuangan yang baik dalam usaha mereka, sehingga dapat membantu UMKM bertahan dan tumbuh di tengah situasi pandemi dan kondisi ekonomi yang sulit. Langkah-langkah dalam pengabdian masyarakat untuk program pelatihan dan sosialisasi pembukuan keuangan meliputi: (1) Identifikasi kebutuhan dan potensi lokal terkait pembukuan keuangan; (2) Membentuk tim pelaksana yang terdiri dari tenaga ahli dan praktisi; (3) Merancang program pelatihan dengan tujuan, materi, metode, dan evaluasi yang terstruktur; (4) Menyusun rencana sosialisasi melalui media massa dan pertemuan langsung; (5) Melaksanakan program pelatihan dan sosialisasi secara bertahap; dan (6) Melakukan evaluasi program untuk mengetahui efektivitasnya. Dengan langkah-langkah tersebut, diharapkan UMKM dan masyarakat desa dapat memperoleh manfaat dan kemampuan dalam mengelola keuangan secara baik dan benar.

Abstract

Language is divided into two, namely standard language and non-standard language. Slang is one of examples of non-standard language. Slangs means the use of informal words that are considered non-standard language. Slang usually found in movie, therefore slang and movie are related each other. This research aimed to identify slangs words used on Rampage movie. This study used the theory from Coleman (2012). The research was conducted using qualitative method. For the triangulation the researcher used investigator triangulation by discussing the findings with a lecturer who was expert in this subject. The findings of this study were: (1) English slangs created by changing meaning were 17 slangs; (2) English slangs created by changing in function were two slangs; (3) English slangs created by changing in form were seven slangs; (4) English slangs created by abbreviation was one slang; (5) English slangs made by changing spelling were three slangs; (6) English slangs created by language loans were two slangs. This study suggests the lecturer to use the findings as the option of effective authentic material. It is hoped that this research can help the students and English education in analyzing slangs word. This thesis can also be used as a reference for further researcher to analyze a movie more deeply.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa kesalahan grammar yg di tulis oleh mahasiswa semester 5 di kelas Writing dengan menggunakan teori error analysis oleh Dulay (1982) yang fokus pada surface strategy taxonomy. Penelitian ini menggunakan design penelitian kualitatif. Data di ambil dari tulisan mahasiswa semester 5 Universitas PGRI Kanjuruhan Malang. Peneliti menggunakan 1 kelas yang terdiri dari 29 mahasiswa sebagai partisipan penelitian. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menjadi instrumen utama. Peneliti terlibat dalam setiap kegiatan penelitian dalam mengumpulkan, menganalisa, mengklasifikasi, dan menyimpulkan data. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, 132 kesalahan grammar ditemukan. Kesalahan tersebut di klasifikasikan dalam empat kategori yaitu error omission, error addition, misformation error, dan misordering. Misformation error adalah jenis kesalahan yang paling umum dilakukan oleh mahasiwa di tulisan mereka (48%). Error omission menjadi peringkat kedua yang dominan (21%). Kesalahan selanjutnya adalah error addition (20%) dan misordering (11%). Kesimpulannya, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa masih memiliki kesulitan grammar dalam menulis karena frekuensi kesalahan mereka yang masih cukup tinggi. Oleh sebab itu, dosen diharapkan membuat koreksi dan memberikan penjelasan lebih lanjut tentang kesalahan grammar mahasiswa dalam proses belajar mengajar. Dosen juga di harapkan dapat menggunakan berbagai metode pengajaran sesuai kebutuhan siswa.

Abstract

For students, mastering English communicative skills is difficult. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced students to study online. Teachers must be able to adapt and present online learning strategies that suit the needs of students. This study aimed to find out the teachers’ teaching strategies and to explore the teachers’ difficulties in implementing teaching strategies in online speaking class at junior high school in Malang. A descriptive qualitative design in the form of a case study was used as the research design. The participants involved in this study were three English teachers at Kartika IV-8 Middle School Malang and Taman Siswa Malang Junior High School. Two instruments used in this study include observation and interviews. The data analysis process included data condensation, data display and drawing and verification of conclusions. The results of this study indicated that teachers used a variety of online speaking class teaching strategies such as discussion, simulation, and asking questions. The teachers also experienced several obstacles in implementing strategies in online speaking classes. In group discussions, teachers found it difficult to manage time and monitor student activities. The internet connection made it difficult for the teachers. In the simulation strategy, it was also difficult for teachers to monitor and assess student work. The teachers also found problems when applying the questioning strategy. This strategy could not be followed by all students. As a result, other students tended to be silent.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the culturally-bound words found in the legends and how the culturaly-bound words in legends are translated into English. Three legends entitled Lutung Kasarung, Timun Mas, and Keong Mas are analyzed qualitatively by using the culturally-bound words categories and translation strategies by Newmark (1988).The results show that there are 23 words included culturally-bound words which are separated into four categories and was translated by using six strategies by Newmark (1988). The four categories namely ecology; material culture; organisation, custom, activities; and gesture and habit. The six strategies by Newmark (1988) were cultural equivalent, functional equivalent, descriptive equivalent, modulation, transference, and synonymy. The findings provide reference to understand the Indonesian culturally-bound words and how they are translated into English.
