Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the species diversity and to determine the dominant species of lady bird beetle predators in high land plantation ecosystem in West Sumatera. The samples were taken by hand collection and sweep net. The data of species diversity were analyzed using Shannon-Wiener index, evenness of species were analyzed by Simpson index, and  dominant species using important value index. The results showed that there were 91 individuals predator found which consisted of 7 species. The highest  species diversity (1.74) and evenness (0.89) were found in Pulau Punjung. The lowest diversity and evennes (1,40) and (0,75) was found in Koto Besar. The highest  species importance value index was 1,00, that was Menochillus sexmaculatus.

Abstract

Cacao BL-50 clone is a superior cacao clone from West Sumatra. The BL-50 clones are most ideally propagated by side grafting. The objective of this study wa to determine the effect of various storage media of cacao scion BL-50 clone on the successful of side grafting. The present study was conducted in December 2018 to April 2019 at Balubuih Village, 50 Kota District and at Dharmasraya District. This research was a experiment used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three storage media namely banana midrib, curcuma sliced, and alcosorb mixed with sawdust which are repeated 6 times. The observation data were analyzed by the F test at 5% level significantly, if significantly different it was continued by the Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DMNRT) at 5% level significantly. The results showed that the best scion storage media was a banana midrib which was able to increase the successful of side grafting of cacao BL-50 clones.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to identify normal and abnormal flowers on oil palm clones from tissue culture in PPKS plantation in Dharmasraya District. This research used descriptive method and the data were taken by purposive sampling. Forms of normal and abnormal flowers were described, as well as the stages of flowers development. Result indicated that normal female flowers have 3 stigmas and 3 lobes, while abnormal female flowers have more than 3 stigmas and 3 to 7 lobes. In comparison, normal female flowers have 6 circles of corollas while abnormal female flowers have 7 circles with additional carpels on corolla. There are three kinds of abnormalities found i.e.: transvestite coat, heavy coat, and very heavy coat (abort). The percentages of normal flowers is 80% while the abnormal flowers is 20%.

The purpose of this research is to invent and to characterize of the morphology of the daro at the District of Koto Baru Regency of Dharmasraya. This research is conducted under both surveys and interview methods then followed with the morphological inventory and characterization. There are found about 103 trees of daros. The descriptive result shows that the tree grows standing upright, woody, and the bark of the tree is rough with light brown and white spotted. The cross-section is round. The leaf is incomplete for it only has a stalk, and a blade of leaf with the dark green upper surface and smooth and light green lower surface, and the leaf spine is fish bone like. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to see and determine the effect of application of cow rumen compost on the growth of oil palm seedlings (Elaies gueneensis Jacq.) in main nursery. This research was carried out in the experimental garden of the Agroecotechnology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University from September 2018 to February 2019. This research was conducted whit 5 treatments and 5 replications, each of which consisted of 2 units of plant experiments. Doses of compost were 0 g, 250 g, 500 g, 750 g and 1000 g. The parameters observed were plant height, leaf length, leaf width, number of leaves, and stem diameter. The data obtained were analyzed by variance with a level of 5% if significantly different followed by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5% level. The application of 1000 g compost gave the best result on plant height, leaf length, leaf width, leaf number, and hump diameter.
