Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the mathematical reasoning abilities of high school students with the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach in the material of sequences and series. The RME approach in this study was applied in the form of RME reasoning questions. This research uses a descriptive qualitative research method. The subjects in this study were 33 students of class IX-E SMA, then reduction was made by taking three students, one with high, medium, and low reasoning abilities. The data was collected using an instrument of mathematical reasoning ability test in the form of an essay consisting of 4 valid and reliable questions, and by using interviews to obtain data in the form of student responses directly by providing a series of questions posed by the researcher to the subject. Based on the results of the study, several conclusions were obtained that the three subjects had a fairly good understanding of using questions that were close to examples in everyday life. Students who have high reasoning ability are able to master the five indicators of mathematical reasoning ability. Students who have moderate reasoning ability are only able to master three indicators of mathematical reasoning ability. Students who have low reasoning ability, are able to master one hand of mathematical reasoning ability.

Abstract

This study aims to develop teaching materials in the form of mathematics modules based on Higher Order Thinking Skills to increase student learning independence at SMK YPK Medan. The mathematical logic module developed is feasible to use and has met the valid, practical and effective criteria. The method used in this study is a Research and Development method with define, design, develop, disseminate. The results of the research that have been carried out show that the module developed is valid. This is based on the results of four different validators in terms of material, language, and design with an average score of 4.0 and are in the valid category. Practicality is obtained from the results of student questionnaires with an average score of 58.47 and is in the practical category. The effectiveness is obtained from the results of increasing student learning independence on the first trial test of 68.3 and on the second trial test of 81.65 which is included in the effective improvement category.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a Higher Order Thinking Skill-based mathematical logic assessment instrument in mathematics to improve student learning independence and to determine the quality of the Higher Order Thinking Skill-based mathematical logic assessment instrument in mathematics to improve student learning independence. The type of research used is Research and Development research with reference to the 4-D model proposed by Thiagarajan, namely define, design, develop, disseminate. The subjects in this study were students of class XI SMK Medan Family Education Foundation. The assessment instrument used is a test of interest in learning and student response questionnaires which will then be tested for feasibility. The results showed that the mathematical logic assessment instrument developed was valid and reliable after being repaired. Meanwhile, after conducting the trial, in the second stage, an effective and practical mathematical logic assessment instrument was obtained.

Abstract

Kurangnya variasi media dan pendekatan pembelajaran yang digunakan guru pada pembelajaran matematika mengakibatkan rendahnya kemampuan penalaran matematis dan self-efficacy siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan media pembelajaran audio visual berbasis RME yang valid, praktis, dan efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan penalaran matematis dan self-efficacy siswa. Jenis penelitian ini adalah pengembangan model Thiagarajan. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 33 orang siswa kelas XI-E Pondok Pesantren Mawaridussalam. Teknik yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah: 1) lembar validasi ahli dengan hasil validasi sebesar 91,67% dalam kategoti sangat valid; 2) Instrumen kepraktisan dengan hasil sebesar 90,40% dalam kategori sangat praktis;  3) instrument tes penalaran dengan hasil 88,89% siswa tuntas secara klasikal dan peningkatan indikator penalaran sebesar 0,22;  4) angket self-efficacy dengan hasil rata-rata penguasaan self-efficacy siswa sebesar 71,80% dalam kategori tinggi dan peningkatan indikator self-efficacy sebesar 0,51 Dapat disimpulkan bahwa media pembelajaran audio visual berbasis RME telah valid,praktis, dan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan penalaran matematis dan self-efficacy siswa.Kata kunci : Media Audio Visual, RME, Penalaran Matematis, Self-Efficacy

Abstract

Variables and expressions serve as bridges where students cross from arithmetic to algebra. Although variables and expressions are important concepts in middle school and high school mathematics, they are topics that many students find challenging, and many, in fact, do not develop a thorough understanding of these topics. This study aims to explore the epistemological obstacles students face in understanding and interpreting the concepts of variables and expressions. Based on these objectives, a qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach was chosen to achieve this research objective. The subjects in this study were 8th grade middle school students in the city of Medan, Indonesia. Tests and interviews were used to collect data. The data obtained were analyzed using an inductive approach. The data obtained are presented in narrative and graphical forms. Based on the research results obtained, six types of student errors in solving problems related to the concept of variables and expressions were identified. Overall, students' limitations in understanding and interpreting variables as something unknown is one of the triggers for epistemological obstacles. Teachers should give chances for pupils to debate and explain variables and expressions in the classroom to assist students gain a comprehensive knowledge of these mathematical tools.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the impact of implementing differentiated learning and how it is implemented in class VII mathematics subjects at SMP Negeri 8 Medan. This type of research is qualitative research with student informants and subject teachers who have become Driving Teachers. The results of the research show that the implementation of differentiated learning has an impact on changes in students' behavior in learning, as can be seen from the results of observations that students are more active in learning activities and creative in carrying out tasks so that students' learning outcomes match the learning objectives. Meanwhile, the implementation of differentiated learning by teachers can respond to learning needs by paying attention to the preparation, implementation and assessment of differentiated learning. This research illustrates that the implementation of differentiated learning has an impact on good changes in student behavior and learning outcomes and the implementation of learning must be in accordance with the steps of differentiated learning.

Abstract

The research aims to increase the motivation and learning outcomes of students at UPT SMP Negeri 8 Medan by implementing the Teaching at Right Level (TaRL) approach. The subjects in this research were 30 students in class VIII-2 UPT SMP Negeri 8 Medan. This research is classroom action research carried out in 2 cycles. The two cycles carried out 4 learning meetings and 2 evaluations. The results of the research show that students' learning motivation has increased, in the pre-cycle the average was 65.2 in the sufficient category, then in the first cycle it increased to 74.9 in the sufficient category. In cycle II, the average learning motivation of students increased to 83.3 in the good category, while for learning outcomes there was an increase in classical completeness in the pre-cycle by 20%, then in cycle I it increased to 50%, improvements were made in cycle II, classical completeness was the result student learning increased to 87%. So, it can be concluded that implementing the TaRL approach can increase student motivation and learning outcomes at UPT SMP Negeri 8 Medan.

Abstract

This research aims to: Understand the mathematics learning process by implementing the independent curriculum at SMP Negeri 8 Medan. This research method uses qualitative research which emphasizes analysis or descriptiveness. The subjects in this research were mathematics teachers who had become driving teachers and students of class VII SMP Negeri 8 Medan. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the research show that learning mathematics by implementing the independent curriculum at SMP Negeri 8 Medan has had an impact on changes in students' behavior in learning, as can be seen from the results of observations that students are more active in learning activities and creative in their work. assignments so that student learning outcomes match the learning objectives. Meanwhile, learning mathematics by implementing the independent curriculum by teachers can respond to learning needs by paying attention to the preparation, implementation and assessment of mathematics learning. This research shows that learning mathematics by implementing the independent curriculum has an impact on good changes in students' behavior and learning outcomes and the implementation of learning must be appropriate. with independent curriculum learning steps.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze students' ability to understand mathematical concepts in flat-sided spatial figures in terms of learning styles in class VIII-8 UPT SMP Negeri 8 Medan. This research method uses qualitative methods. Data collection techniques from questionnaire results in the form of a Google form which contains aspects of learning styles accompanied by indicators that must be answered and observations of learning activities. The written test used in this research was in the form of description questions regarding material on the flat side of a cube. This research was conducted in class VIII-8 UPT SMP Negeri 8 Medan which also served as the research subject. Based on the research results, most students in class VIII-8 UPT SMP Negeri 8 Medan for the 2023/2024 academic year have a visual learning style with a total of 82.43%, an auditory learning style 60.9% and a kinesthetic learning style 46.5%. Students have a tendency towards one of the visual, auditory or kinesthetic learning styles. Of the 31 students, it was found that 19 students had a tendency towards a visual learning style, 10 students had a tendency towards an auditory learning style and 2 students had a tendency towards a kinesthetic learning style. So it can be concluded overall that each student with a different learning style has a different understanding of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how students apply the four foundations of computational thinking in solving mathematics problems and whether students have applied computational thinking in solving mathematics problems. The research was conducted using an analytical approach to examine the results of solving mathematics problems. This approach involves collecting data from various sources, including tests, quizzes, or assignments given to research subjects. The collected data was then analyzed comprehensively to identify the use of four foundations of computational thinking in the process of solving mathematical problems. The results of this research are that students apply the four foundations of computational thinking. Decomposition by writing down what is known and looking for what is needed in the problem. Pattern recognition by understanding what is known and asking then using the right formula. Abstraction by writing formulas, ignoring what is not needed in the problem, and simplifying the answer. Algorithm by entering the required values into the formula then calculating them and solving the problem in the correct sequence of steps. Even though students make mistakes when solving mathematics problems, students can apply the four foundations of computational thinking.
