Abstract

A narrative text with several grammatical and linguistic aspects is one of the texts learned in senior high school. In fact, according to the researcher's prior observation, students faced numerous challenges when attempting to write it, especially grammatical mistakes in using language features. This study aims to detect grammatical errors in the utilization of language elements in narrative texts produced by students, as well as to determine the underlying reasons contributing to these errors. The recent research employed a descriptive qualitative methodology. Eight of the eleventh-grade students studying Online Business and Marketing major in SMK Negeri 1 Kota Sorong have been selected as the participants in this research. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation which restricted social interactions, only those students than could be reached out to gather data. The data was derived from a writing exam and a semi-structured interview. Upon analyzing the student's writing, it was discovered that they made errors in utilizing the simple past tense and action verbs. Simultaneously, the interview data indicated that the causes contributing to grammatical errors in using language features in this study were limitations, lack of attention, and carelessness. This research finding implied that the teacher must identify the most effective technique to engage the student's attention and enable them to concentrate on acquiring language skills for future use in creating narrative texts.

Abstract

A learning method is a method or approach to for giving the knowledge from a teacher or mentor to students. This educational method is designed to assist teachers in providing material to students according to the characteristics or characteristics of each child. Currently, learning methods are quite important to provide as much understanding as possible to students. This study was conducted to familiarize students with group discussions as well as to hone their ability to think critically when given a topic of discussion. This training was conducted at SD Negeri 29 Sorong City using the mentoring method. This research involved 28 students of class VI. At the time of implementation, students were divided into 6 groups where each group contained 4 people. The achievement results can be seen from the students who are very enthusiastic and active in the application of this learning model, discuss well with their respective groups, and are active in asking each other. In the results of this activity, it can help students.

Abstract

The aims of doing community service at Madrasah Aliyah Muhammadiyah Islands, Raja Ampat Regency, is to increase interest in reading English. In this service, the method used is a qualitative method which emphasizes investigating scientific situations. The use of this method refers to planning, implementation and evaluation. Students' lack of interest in strengthening English literacy, including grammar, vocabulary, fluency in pronouncing vocabulary, as well as understanding English reading and writing, makes students choose learning that is lighter and interspersed with fun games or playing while learning which is not necessary. After the service process has reached, the instructors and teachers can assess thes students at this school are starting to be interested in the learning methods provided. There can be seen an increase in strengthening students' English literacy who are able to follow and carry out learning instructions, even though there are still mistakes, students are trying to improve.
