Abstract

The study on symbolic violence against women is limited. There is still a significant degree of suspicion and stigma in society around the notion that women are weak and helpless compared to men and that women are continually the victims of patriarchal symbolic violence in terms of language, social economics, and others. This research aims to investigate how and why symbolic violence is performed against women in patriarchal cultures, the kinds of symbolic violence against women, the determinants of symbolic violence in this instance, and the effects of linguistic-symbolic violence on women in Medan Tembung. This qualitative research included seven individuals between the ages of 15 and 35. Observations and interviews were employed to collect data for this investigation. The acquired data was then examined using sociological methodologies to disclose the field phenomena and interview outcomes precisely. Furthermore, this research employs the theory of Pierre Bourdieu to comprehend symbolic violence in society. This study's results demonstrate that symbolic violence persists in society, particularly in meetings and in the form of language. The results of this research support this concept by providing evidence of symbolic violence in the form of language or particular terminology that women are not permitted to use, although males are permitted to do so, and which seem to be prevalent in daily life.

Abstract

The Israeli government has been invading and demolishing Palestinian houses in the occupied territories of Jerusalem from the outset of 1948 to date. The Israeli government’s reasons for doing so are critical to analyze, which is the article's primary purpose. This article used a descriptive approach to gather data to describe the reasons for doing such demolition. The researchers investigated, identified, and critically analyzed the frequent actions of Palestinian house demolition based on the collected data, where the qualitative method becomes the data analysis methodology. The finding reveals that, according to the Israeli government, their main reason for demolishing Palestinian houses was because they were constructed illegally without residential permits. However, the finding exposes that these claims are not justifiable; instead, the precise reason for the demolition of Palestinian houses by the Israeli government is only to evict the Palestinians from their occupied territories in Jerusalem. This also violated the position of international law and human rights, which called upon the Israeli government to allocate land to the Palestinian people. This article, therefore, recommends that more research be conducted to expose the unjustifiable actions of the Israeli government.

Abstract

Islamic fundamentalist groups played an important role in Indonesia's 2019 presidential election. They openly sided with the number 2 candidate, Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Solahudin Uno. Even today, the presidential election was marked by polarization and religious sentiments that are very strong and sharp. This study examined the model of presidential election contestation that will likely take place in 2024, the position of fundamentalist groups in political contestation, and its relation to religious polarization trends. This qualitative research used a case study approach to explore political models and attitudes in presidential election contestation. Interest group theory was placed to analyze the issue. The results showed that the map of contestation that will occur in 2024 will still be the same as the 2019 presidential election contestation. Second, the division between religious groups will still occur in the 2024 presidential election. Third, the alignment of religious fundamentalist groups in the 2024 presidential election will lead to figures willing and able to accommodate their groups.

Abstract

"Kuah Pliek" is the famous Acehnese cuisine that utilizes most ecological materials. However, only a few researchers have discussed the sustainability of the lexicon contained within the cuisine from an eco-linguistics perspective. This study focuses on Aceh's traditional cuisine, "Kuah Pliek U" (KPU), to assess the raw materials' eco-lexicon diversity and the Acehnese's knowledge of the identified eco-lexicon. This study employed a qualitative research design to address the problems in which data collection included in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), passive and active observation, and the examination of documents such as research reports and journal articles. The analysis of data then used a qualitative interactive model. The result demonstrates that the number of the eco-lexicon within KPU is about 35 – 40, as same as its total of raw materials and ingredients. It consists of biotic and abiotic, with plants comprising the majority. Linguistically, the lexicon belongs to the noun class, but semantically, it can be divided into nouns, prepositional eco-lexicons, and nouns and conjunction. This study also reveals that Acehnese knowledge of KPU has decreased, despite its continued popularity in Aceh society. It means that the existence of three dimensions that influence language sustainability cannot guarantee that local people's cultural knowledge will remain intact.

Abstract

The 2022 Merdeka curriculum for primary schools is a policy of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia for implementation for the 2022–2023 school year. This policy analysis aimed to thoroughly criticize the policy aspects of the 2022 Merdeka primary school curriculum for obtaining a prescription for the future. The method of policy analysis in the form of narrative discussion was used to obtain adequate prescriptive results. The results obtained from this policy analysis showed that changes in the Merdeka curriculum in 2022 for primary schools would be incremental. Changing the curriculum followed the innovation process so that innovation attributes were met. The 2022 Merdeka curriculum for primary schools was to restore the regressed learning quality and prepare for the golden generation of 2045. The Character Education Strengthening Program and the Pancasila Student Profile Program demonstrate that ethics education is critical to the golden generation's success.

Abstract

Utilizing critical literature on Melville and RK Narayan and then reading Moby-Dick (1851) and The Man Eater of Malgudi closely (1961), this article concerns American and Indian works of literature and argues that both writers were among the leading imaginative writers to create niches in terms of philosophy. Both used imagination, symbolism, and spiritual and universal impulses to make the characters and books worth reading. However, both novels portray a quest to enter a “New World” through protagonists Ahab and Vasu, who bring multiple concerns and commit catastrophic blunders. The article sails through a comparative study of the protagonists analyzing the critical factors, such as adventurous and mysterious wanderers, the universe being both godless and purposeless, virtues versus sins, influence and fusion of divergent subjects, their anti-life and anti-nature attitude, intelligence and wisdom and archetype ambitions that lead them to self-destruction. This paper intends to explore the dynamics of the relationship between American and Indian Literature through protagonists Ahab and Vasu’s acquisitive, coseismic, nomadic, and fanatic nature in their quest to enter a “New World” to address aspects that the present time calls for; hence, making both novels great in the twenty-first century.

Abstract

Islamic religious education (PAI) teachers still need help in carrying out learning value that is integrated into learning at school or madrasah. However, implementing the 2013 curriculum emphasizes the importance of value integration in learning, including the values of religious moderation, which can strengthen the value of national unity and integrity. This study presented a learning model for the value of moderation in religion in the Aqidah Akhlak subject at Madrasah Aliyah Aceh, focusing on the perspectives of students and teachers on the learning model for the value of moderation in religion which has so far been implemented and the readiness of teachers in lesson plan based on internalizing the value of religious moderation. The researchers obtained data on the perspectives of students and teachers regarding the learning model of religious moderation values taken from questionnaires and interviews. Data on religious moderation learning plans were a document review from two Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN- Public Islamic Senior High School) 2 in Aceh Tamiang Regency and Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Ulumul Qur'an in Langsa, Indonesia. The applied values learning models have not been able to facilitate students to think critically, resolve value conflicts, and internalize values in students. It has affected students' awareness of applying the values of religious moderation in their lives. The learning plan and design of the religious moderation values in Madrasah Aliyah have not met the standards. Therefore, it remains a big task for educators to strive for better quality values education in formal education, especially in Madrasah Aliyah.
