Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan struktur alur dalam novel Tapak Jejak karya Fiersa Bersari. Teori yang digunakan penelitian ini berkaitan dengan novel dan struktur alur. Pada penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Pendekatan yang digunakan penelitian ini menggunakan bentuk pendekatan struktural. Data dalam hal ini berupa kutipan yang menggambarkan tentang struktur alur meliputi  pengenalan situasi cerita (exposition), pengungkapan peritiswa (complitation), adanya konflik (ricing action), puncak konflik (turning point), dan penyelesaian (ending) yang terdapat pada novel. Berdasarkan analisis terhadap struktur alur dalam novel Tapak  Jejak karya Fiersa Bersari dapat disimpulkan antara lain. Pertama Pembukaan cerita diawali dengan sampainya tokoh utama Bung dan Swarandee memulai perjalanan di Ternate. Kedua tokoh Bung mengalami kebingungan untuk melangkah dan melanjutkan perjalanan mengelilingi Indonesia bagian timur. Ketiga diawali dengan tokoh Aku yang berhasil menyelesaikan misinya untuk menjejakkan kakinya di Manowari, tetapi tokoh Aku memiliki tekat untuk bisa samapai ke ujung timur Indonesia. Ketiga pada puncak ini menentukan perubahan nasib tokoh, ia dapat menyelesaikan masalahnya atau gagal. Selain itu, tokoh Bung telah kehilangan motivasi dalam mengelilingi Indonesia. Ia juga rindu akan rumah dan keluarga. Keempat Bung mengingat alasan untuk melakukan perlajanannya menyelusuri Indonesia bagian Timur dan memutuskan agar kembali pulang ke rumah halaman dan berkumpul bersama keluarganya.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the socio-cultural setting of the novel Pulang by Tere Liye. This research is library research so that it is not bound by the place. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive method with analytical techniques. The object of the research used is the novel Pulang by Tere Liye. This research is focused on socio-cultural background research that includes language systems, socio-cultural systems, living livelihood systems, religious systems. The technique of collecting data is done by the way researchers read, understand, determine each intrinsic and extrinsic elements of the novel. The results of this study can be concluded that there are 81 statements are stating a socio-cultural background divided into 10 language systems, 50 socio-cultural systems, 17 living livelihood systems, 4 religious systems. Study the socio-cultural system dominates, this has been proven by the number of statements that refer to the system. The socio-cultural system in this novel refers to the attitudes and behavior of each group of people whose life is governed by customs and rules regarding various kinds of unity in an environment where they live and interact day by day. The relevance between the  novel Pulang and the present life is the low interest in learning, so it is hoped that this novel can be used as a material for studying literature in high school because the contents of the novel that show learning are very important for the future.

Abstract

Advertising language sets an important role in conveying the purpose of influencing the consumers. To advertise a beauty product, the choice of words representing the concept of beauty becomes the first concern. This study aims to examine the types of meaning of the words used in a beauty product advertisement. To interpret the lexical meaning in beauty product, the method used in this study is descriptive qualitative analysis on six beauty products, particularly the hand body lotion product by Nivea company. The data were analyzed through Leech theory. The result showed two types of meaning in the body lotion products, namely the denotative and connotative meanings. Denotation occurs more in all of the product compared to the connotative meaning. The implication of the finding contributes to the teaching of semantics to enrich the understanding of the perspective of Leech theory in lexical meaning.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to find out whether there is any correlation between students’ behavioral engagement and students’ speaking skill. The research used quantitative approach and the method was correlational research. The population was the eighth-grade students of SMP Islam Malahayati Jakarta. The sample of 26 students were randomly selected. The data of the students’ behavioral engagement were collected by using the questionnaire which was adopted from Miserandino’s BEQ, while the data of students’ speaking skill were collected by using the speaking test which had been validated by the expert judgment. The result shows that there is a positive significant correlation between students’ behavioral engagement and their speaking skill. It can be proven from the result of rxy = 0.698 is higher than rtable = 0.388 and tcount = 4.770 is higher than ttable = 1.7109. Coefficient determination shows that (0.698)2×100% = 48.72% so that students’ behavioral engagement contributes 48.72% towards their speaking skill. It can be concluded that there is a positive significant correlation between students’ behavioral engagement and students’ speaking skill. It means that the students who engage behaviorally have good speaking skill and vice versa.

Abstract

English is interesting. In learning English, we start from learning the basic things. A part of Speech is the basic aspect in English. Verbs is parts of speech. By knowing verbs, a person can make simple sentence. It can be used to master vocabulary and to motivate someone to be fluently in English. The title of this research is an analyzing verb in “A Fresh N Fruity Spring” story book by Lauren Cecil. The aim of this research is to find out verbs in a story book, in order to be mastered in vocabulary and making simple sentence from it. The method which will be applied in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. Key words: parts of speech, verb, story book

Abstract

The research aims to determine the effect of vocabulary mastery on students' English descriptive writing skills and the impact of reading habits on students' English descriptive writing skills, as well as the effect of vocabulary mastery and reading habits together on students' English descriptive writing skills. The population in this study was students of class X State Senior High School in Cibinong and the sample was 120 students. The sampling technique was processed using a simple random sampling method. Descriptive statistical methods were used in this research. The research instrument used was a questionnaire on students' vocabulary mastery, reading habits, and a descriptive text writing skill test. Data analysis used SPSS version 25, the significant level of = 0.05. The requirement analysis use normality test, homogeneity test, two-way ANOVA. The result of this research is vocabulary mastery by the value of sig. = 0.77 < 0.05 does not have a significant effect on students' descriptive text writing skills, reading habits have a significant influence on students' descriptive text writing skills by the value of sig. = 0.01 < 0.05 and there is no significant effect of vocabulary mastery and reading habits on students' writing skills by the value of sig. = 0.01 < 0.265.

Abstract

Love is an emotion or positive feeling like affection, sacrifice, and trust contained in human beings aimed at other human or other objects that are around it. In other words, love is sharing affection, struggle, and complement each other. The purpose of this research are to identify characteristics of love, types of love, and moral message in Aladdin Movie directed by Guy Ritchie. This research used descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. The data are the scenes and the dialogs of the main character that contains the characteristic of love, types of love. The result of this study reveal that: (1) There are 3 characteristics of love in Aladdin movie, they are trust, healing, and teamwork. (2) There 7 types of love in Aladdin movie, there are eros, philia, storge, agape, ludus, pragma, and philautia. (3) The moral message contained in the movie; the true love has their ways to find their soul. Aladdin falling in love with Princess Jasmine. Although, there are a lot of problems and in difficult condition, finally, Aladdin got the Princess Jasmine’s love.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk menjelaskan perbedaan yang terdapat dalam novel Travelers’ Tale Belok Kanan: Barcelona! Karya Adhitya Mulya dkk dengan Film Belok Kanan Barcelona Karya Sutradara Guntur Soeharjanto yang meliputi aspek intrinsik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah novel Travelers’s Tale Belok Kanan: Barcelona! Karya Adhitya Mulya dkk dan film Belok Kanan Barcelona Karya Sutradara Guntur Soeharjanto. Data penelitian berupa kata, penggalan kalimat, ungkapan, dialog antar tokoh, serta perilaku tokoh dalam film. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik simak, catat, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada perbedaan struktur dalam novel dan film. Perbedaan struktur tersebut terlihat pada alur, penambahan dan pengurangan tokoh, serta pengurangan latar tempat pada film. Perbedaan dibuat agar cerita terlihat lebih menarik dan lebih dramatis lagi. Meskipun demikian karena cerita dalam film diambil dari novel. Maka, cerita tersebut memiliki kesamaan yang tidak dapat dipisahkan. Cerita dalam novel bisa disebut sebagai benang merah dari film, namun cerita novel lebih kompleks dibandingkan filmnya.  Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan psikologi sastra untuk menganalisis karakter dari tokoh, tepatnya penggambaran tokoh menggunakan metode telling (penggambaran langsung) dan showing (penggambaran tidak langsung) dan didapatkan hasil bahwa untuk karakter tokoh baik dalam novel maupun film memiliki kesamaan, perbedaannya hanya terdapat pada penggambaran tokoh dalam cerita.

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate kind and the meaning of presupposition that occur in Frozen Movie Script by using pragmatics approach. The objectives of this study are 1) To find the types of the presupposition that used in the main characters in frozen movie script. 2) To describe the interpretation meaning of the presuppositions that found in Frozen movie script. This study is qualitative research applying content analysis. The data analysis was conducted by watching the movie from beginning until the end. In this research, the writer used distributional method to select utterance in the movie script to classify the data into kinds of presupposition and writer also used distributional method to analyze the data. The findings of this research are 50 utterance were found, there are 15 existential presupposition, 4 factive presupposition, 2 non factive presupposition,9 lexical presupposition, 17 structural presupposition, and 3 counterfactual presupposition. To know the interpretation meaning of presupposition the writer watching the movie from the beginning until the end of the movie, she read and analyze the script of the movie, then she relates to the situation and context that occurs in the storyline. Therefor she concluded that every presupposition produce it has meaning that want to send by speaker to listener, every presupposition it can depends on the condition or the situation when the speaker said the utterance.

Abstract

Abstract  - Writing an essay is quite tricky as it needs more than pouring all ideas in written arrangement. Those ideas must be gathered, organized, and planned to be arranged in an outline. The main goal of this study was aimed at examining the students’ outlines and their essays based on their outlines. To evaluate their outline, the framework was based on the outline checklist proposed by Zemach & Rumisek (2005). This study employed qualitative study and involved 30 students in the third semester of 2020/2021 academic year enrolled in the Essay Writing course, at English Department, Faculty of Letters, Universitas Pamulang (Unpam). The results of constructing an outline, it showed that the highest percentage (73%) in constructing an outline was in organization for paragraphs in the right order. On the other hand, insSupport for each main idea related to the thesis statement had the lowest percentage (40%). However, the results of generating essay writing based on their outline, there were 80% students who were successful following their outline when they created their essay. It can be concluded that most of students when they produced an outline and developed their ideas to write an essay from their outline, they followed their outline. On the other hand, they had challenge in developing support for Each main idea related to the thesis statement.
