The scope of Gondang is the Science of Art and Culture. Published twice a year (June and December) and first published for print edition in June 2017.

This study aims to determine the management of the University of North Sumatra Consolatio Choir, regarding planning, implementation, and monitoring of evaluations that have been carried out. This study uses a qualitative descriptive analysis approach. Data collection is obtained through: interviews, observation and documentation studies. The research informants were the Chair of the Daily Management Board, Conductor, and Members of the USU Consolation Choir. Data analysis was performed using qualitative data analysis and with technical inductive analysis. Qualitative research is basically building theory, so in this study there is a new theory that is built namely "Service Management". Service here means that organizational management does not expect profits, but the organization still exists. USU's Consolatio Choir, an informal organization, from the outset of planning, the organization has presented the organization's vision and mission to prospective members from USU students and alumni, which in its implementation, the organization's mission went well and everything that was done selflessly and feared God . After the evaluation monitoring, there were still a few weaknesses in non-technical management by BPH. Conclusion of research, choirs can be formed from USU students, or can even be formed from any group who wants to sing in a choir.

Tinjauan Bentuk dan Fungsi Musik pada Seni Pertunjukan Ketoprak Dor Panji Suroso

This article reviews the form and function of music at the Ketoprak Dor show that grew and developed in the land of Deli North Sumatra as a culture owned by the Javanese Deli community group. Departing from the phenomenon of the existence of the performance of Ketoprak Dor art in several areas inhabited by the majority of Javanese in the villages around Deli plantations, it led the author to begin to explore the problem of musical elements as one of the most important parts of this performance. Based on the study conducted by the author, it is indicated that the elements that form the Ketoprak Dor show have their own uniqueness, and can be distinguished from similar art in the island of Java. The forming elements of the show are: elements of dance, literature, fashion, stage, theater, motion and dance and elements of music have their own characteristics, and are very different from the ketoprak that is on the island of Java. On this occasion the author only specializes in the discussion of musical elements in the Ketoprak Dor performance art, which is about how the form of music and its function in the Ketoprak Dor performance art.

This study aims to analyze, Technique of Singing in Opera. The purpose of this research is to know Technique of Singing. The purpose of this paper is to find out whether the storybook or the Kancil fairy tale influences the imitating behavior of the Sunggal 41 ABA 41 Kindergarten students and sees how storytellers are very influential in conveying the message content of a story. This research method uses descriptive, which is taking a problem or focusing on actual problems as they were at the time the research was conducted. The description in this study was to see the imitating behavior of the Sunggal 41 ABA Kindergarten students. The results of the study found that fairy tales or stories of the Kancil can enrich knowledge by recognizing various types of animals that are used as characters in a story or fairy tale or in increasing children's understanding of good and bad things. Children who tend to not be able to focus on one thing / object in a certain period of time are challenges and homework that the teacher must overcome when telling stories / storytelling. Short time and schedule of storytelling / storytelling activities obtained at school are not enough to-create-imitating-behaviors-of-children.

The myths and cultures associated with Mount Lawu. The most mysterious mountain and save a million mysteries in Java. Myths and culture that evolved into a puzzle in the novel Aroma Karsa by Dee Lestari which is interesting to explore more and so real depictions. This study aims to get an overview of the myths and culture of the people on the slopes of Mount Lawu that are in effect. This research is content analysis using a literary anthropology approach. Data sources were from Aroma Karsa's novel by Dee Lestari. The results of this study are depictions of myths and cultures in the form of (1) myths and culture through the location of the place or location, (2) myths and culture through the techno-economic owner's community, (3) myths and culture through the sociology of the owner's community, (4) and myths of culture through cosmology. The depiction of myths and culture has a conservation impact or still preserves the heritage of the ancestors of the community on the slopes of Mount Lawu. Knowing human relationships with other creatures created.

This study aims to determine the interest of YP high school students. HKBP Sidorame in following Jong Batak Art Festival IV in the North Sumatra Cultural Park and the factors that influenced the interest of YP High School students. HKBP Sidorame in following Jong Batak Art Festival IV in North Sumatra Cultural Park. The theory used in this study is the theory of interest, kinds of interests, influencing factors, jong batak which explains the feeling of being more like and feeling interested in something or activity, without being told. Basically, interest is the acceptance of a relationship between yourself and something outside of yourself, the stronger or nearer the relationship, the greater the interest. The method in this study is mixed methods. Data collection is based on library studies, observation, and documentation. The sample in this study were students of class XII IPS 1 totaling 32 people. Based on the results of the research conducted, it can be seen that the use of questionnaires as research instruments shows that students are interested in participating in the Jong Batak Art Festival IV but have not reached the highest level in the assessment category, which is Very Interested.

The purpose of this research is to know the form of Aut Boi Nian songs, to know the meaning contained in the lyrics of Aut Boi Nian songs, to know the relevance of Aut Boi Nian songs with Toba Dreams movie scenes. The theory used in this research is the theory of study that explains the definition of the study or describes a detailed. Theory of music is a cultural activity that is very familiar with human life. Theory of form is a complete scheme or arrangement of several phrases, the theory of meaning that uses the theory of semiotics. The method in this research is descriptive qualitative method where the data is examined through data collection in the form of beam notation, scientific papers, expert opinions, and electronics (Video) whose material is based on the topic of this research. This study choose the location at the Music Laboratory, Building A 2nd Floor of the Faculty of Languages and Arts State University of Medan. In this study the authors did not use the population but directly took samples of the song lyrics Aut Boi Nian and Toba Dreams movie pieces. Based on the results of research conducted it can be seen that the form of the song from Aut Boi Nian is a two-part song form that is A-A '-B-B’. Form A consists of the question phrase and answer phrase, the form A 'consists of the question phrase and answer phrase. Form B consists of the question phrase and answer phrase, the form B 'consists of the question phrase and answer phrase. The meaning contained in the Aut Boi Nian songs is telling of a love story that is too love a woman who ultimately choose another man because of economic factors. The relevance of Aut Boi Nian songs with Toba Dreams movie scenes is not too related to all the scenes in the movie but only in some scenes only.

Dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis cerpen, seorang guru harus pintar merancang suatu strategi belajar dengan pemilihan model pembelajaran yang tepat. Salah satu cara yang dapat dilakukan seorang guru adalah menciptakan suasana belajar yang lebih inovatif terhadap pembelajaran sastra, maka dipilihlah metode outdoor learning sebagai salah satu upaya meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman menulis cerpen. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen pada siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Sumedang, sebanyak 32 siswa. Hasil analisis data tanggapan siswa dari 32 responden dapat dilihat bahwa, sebagian besar siswa menyatakan positif dan sebagian kecil menyatakan hal yang negatif terhadap pembelajaran menulis cerpen dengan metode outdoor learning. Berdasarkan hasil pengolahan data dari populasi yang berdistribusi normal maka perhitungan dilanjutkan dengan menggunakan uji z, diperoleh bahwa z hitung = 0,50 sedangkan z tabel untuk taraf signifikan 1% ialah 2,33. karena z hitung terletak di dalam interval – z 0,4900 s.d z 0,4900 atau (-2,33 < 0,50 < 2,33), maka hipotesis yang diajukan dalam penelitian ini diterima. Dengan demikian, dapat penulis simpulkan bahwa hasil pembelajaran menulis cerpen dengan menggunakan metode outdoor learning pada siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Sumedang.

Tujuan artikel ini mendiskusikan tentang simbol-simbol sinkretisme dalam pertunjukan seni gamelan koromong yang berada di wilayah Kampung Cikubang Kabupaten Sumedang Jawa Barat. Melalui pendekatan desain riset kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus terhadap gejala atau fenomena yang terdapat pada seni gamelan koromong ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa acara rutin yang dilaksanakan tiap tanggal 14 Maulud pada tahun Islam ini menunjukan adanya perpaduan antara konteks Sunda, Islam, dan Hindu. Konteks Sundanya tercermin dalam gambaran simbol-simbol peribadatan dengan pola-pola tertentu yang menyiratkan kuatnya kepercayaan terhadap sesuatu yang bersifat transendental. Dalam kegiatan yang sama, diyakini pula bahwa penanggalan Islam yang di pakai sekaligus memperingati kelahiran Nabi Muhammad SAW. Hal lainnya yang mewarnai proses sinkretisme dalam upacara ritual ini yaitu pemahaman terhadap animisme dan dinamisme dalam ajaran Hindu seperti mempercayai kekuatan benda dan hubungan dengan nenek moyang (karuhun).

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pemahaman masyarakat etnis Karo terhadap adat rebu, bentuk hubungan sungkan (Avoidance Relationship) dan penyebab lunturnya adat istiadat rebu pada masyarakat etnis Karo di Desa Lingga. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Data diperoleh penulis melalui studi pustaka, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah sebanyak 9 orang yang terdiri dari Kepala Desa Lingga, Sekretaris Desa, pemuka Agama, pemuda, budayawan dan warga desa Lingga. Berdasarkan data yang telah diperoleh oleh penulis, disimpulkan bahwa hampir seluruh masyarakat yang tinggal di Desa Lingga memahami adat rebu dan sebagian besar masyarakat masih menjalankan adat rebu tersebut. Bentuk hubungan sungkan (avoidance relationship) atau yang pada adat suku Karo disebut rebu merupakan bentuk aturan bersikap atau berprilaku antara mertua dan menantu dan sebaliknya (kela – mami dan mama – permain), antara hubungan yang berbeda jenis kelamin namun tidak kandung (turangku). Penyebab lunturnya nilai-nilai adat pantang (rebu) dalam lingkup kekerabatan pada masyarakat desa Lingga disebabkan oleh perubahan dan tuntutan zaman yang memaksa masyarakat yang terlibat dalam sistem kekerabatan Karo untuk lebih menekankan nilai kemanusiaan dari pada nilai adat istiadat maupun Agama.
