Abstract

This research investigate the effect of media hydrocarbon Chemistry Triangle oriented on the high, medium, and low level school in Padang and to identify the interaction between the school level and treatment of chemical learning. This experimental study used a randomized posttest-only control group design. The experimental group experienced a media-based hydrocarbon chemistry triangle lesson while the control group was treated by conventional approach. The student participants were divided into high, medium, and low level schools based on their group mean score on the UN chemistry subject test in the academic year 2013/2014. Posttest score data were analyzed by using a T-test and two way ANOVA. This research concluded that (1) overall, the scores of students who were treated with the Media Hydrocarbon Chemistry Triangle were higher than students receiving the conventional treatment, and (2) there is no interaction between the use of instructional media and the school level. This means that instructional media has a good effect on students outcomes.

Abstract

Chemistry had been regarded as a difficult subject for students by some reason, such as because of the abstract nature of many chemical concepts. Teachers should help students to resolve difficulties in understanding of chemical concepts. Develop students critical thinking and scientific thinking is one of several ways to help students more easily in understanding of chemical concepts. Practicum in the lab can train students to think critically and at the same time build students' understanding of the chemical concepts.The purpose of this research was to describes critical thinking skills , conceptual understanding, and correlation of critical thinking skills with students' conceptual understanding. This type of research is descriptive research. Informants in this research is the student of the second grade in SMAN 15 Padang. The instrument used in this research is essay test, CCTT-X test  and observation sheet. The results showed that class with a practicum in early learning will further develop critical thinking skills and students ' understanding of concepts rather than classes with practicum at the end of learning, and also correlation of students critical thinking with their conceptual understanding is very week.

Abstract

This research was used experimental method that aimed to determine the effect of the application of learning cycle 5E (engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration, evaluation) learning model  to students' science process skills (SPS) on the solubility and constant solubility product material at State Senior High School number 4 in school year 2017/2018 . The method used is quasi experimental design. Samples were taken by simple random sampling technique. The sample in this research is XI IPA 4 as the control class and  XI IPA 6 as the experimental class. Data collection techniques in this study is observation. Data were analyzed using t-test assisted by software SPSS 25.00 for windows software. The results of data processing obtained the value of t count = 9.546 and t table = 1.933 with a significant level of 0.000 (sig <0.05). The average N-gain value of student’s SPS in control class is 0.138 with a low category and students in experimental class 0.541 with the medium category. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the application of the learning cycle 5E learning model influences student’s SPS in solubility and constant solubility product material.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research was instigated by the questionnaire result that 51% students of State Senior High School 8 supposed that the Chemistry subject was difficult, and the lack of using educational website.  This research aimed at (1) producing chemistry instructional media website based, (2) knowing validity and practicality level of chemistry instructional media website based on Acid Base Lesson at State Senior High School 8.It was a Research and Development (R&D).  The steps of this research were using Borg & Gall model that was limited to the fifth step—revising the test result.  The mean score of media validation by the material and media experts was 89.58% and it was stated very valid.  In practicality test score done by 5 Chemistry subject teachers, the result was 86.66% showing that chemistry instructional media website based was very practical to be used in facilitating teaching and learning process atState Senior High School 8.  In the test result of 35 students for knowing student response to chemistry instructional media website based, the result was 76.59% showing that the media was on good and proper category to be used. Abstract

AbstractBilions of new inorganic compounds and many synthetic methods has discovered for decades based on many reason. Its wider use makes inorganic compounds continuously synthesized by chemists. However, most of them were not produced in Indonesia. One of the solution was preparing synthesizing inorganic compounds subject matter to preservice chemistry teacher. Nevertheless, because it is not easy to mastered, didactic reduction must be done. The objection of this study was to reconstructed this subject matter using the Model of Educational Reconstruction (MER), start form curriculum analysis, empirical studies, and analysis of content structure. This research was conducted by mixed method exploratory design, with preservice chemistry teacher 6th and 8th semester as the sample. The reconstruction of synthesis inorganic compounds subject matter material was the following sequence of macro propositions: general description of synthesized of inorganic compounds, benefits of the inorganic compounds, reactions that can underlie possible formation of inorganic compounds, the thermodynamics and kinetics of reactions processes the properties of the inorganic compounds, basic synthesis techniques and basic characterization techniques. And the most important thing that must be understood by potential chemists are: material characteristics, molecular structure of compounds, and chemical reaction.Keywords : Model of Educational Reconstruction, synthesis of inorganic compounds, preservice chemistry teacher

Abstract

This research was a quasi-experiment—instigated by the low of students’ chemistry achievement. This research aimed at knowing the effect of using Team Games Tournament (TGT) type of Cooperative Learning Model with Molymod media tomard students’ achievement of X grade at Senior High School of YLPI Pekanbaru. The samples of this research were Random Sampling comprising 2 classes—X1 (Experimental group) and X3 (Control group). There were 4 meetings done. Test, interview, questionnaire, and documentation were the techniques of collecting the data. T-test formula was used to find out the result of students’ achievement. Based on the data analysis, it can be stated that tobserved was 4.14 and ttable 2.00 and it showed that tobserved was higher than ttable. It revealed that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. In other words, there was a significant effect of using Team Games Tournament (TGT) type of Cooperative Learning model with Molymod media toward students’ achievement of X grade at Senior High School of YLPI Pekanbaru with coefficient effect 20%. Abstract

AbstrackCooking oil is one food that is very needed by the whole society. The rising price of cooking oil in among society with low economics, is one of the factors causing the repeated use of cooking oil (Waste cooking oil). Using of waste cooking oil can cause poisoning, cancer and others. This research aimed to know the persentage reduction in acid number and water content, also organoleptic of the oil produced. The methods of waste cooking oil can be done by giving antioxidant to the oil. Noni fruit is one of the plant that be rich of antioxidant. 50 gram simplisia of noni added to 250 ml waste cooking oil of packadge and bulk oil. The methods of acid number by alkalimetri and measurement of water content using oven. The organoleptic tests carried out by favorite level from 25 panelists. The results of this research showed that persentage of reduction in packpage and bulk oil’s acid number were 28% and 25%. Whereas for persentage of reduction water content from each oil were 75% and 71.42%. The favorite level of color, odor and flavor were 99%, 76% and 89%. The results of the questionnaire about the feasibility of video in terms of content and appearance was 84.375%, which was included in the excellent category.Keywords: Waste Cooking Oil, Noni Fruit, Water Content, Acid Number and Organoleptic Tests.

Abstract

AbstractMaking coconut oil was usually done with heating coconut milk for hours until the protein in coconut milk broke and the oil can go out from coconut milk emulsion. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of pineapple juice addition against the amount of produced oil, to determine the quality of VCO enzymatic were density, water content, organoleptic (color, smell and flavor), teacher appraisal on work procedure and product of study result. The variation of pineapple juice shown that more pineapple juice addition then more produced VCO. The mount of produced oil for sample A 80 mL, sample B 83 mL and sample C 85 mL. The quality of three samples were for density which sample A 0.916, sample B 0.938, sample C 0.95. And for water content which sample A0.5, sample B 0.83 dan sample C 1.16. Between three sample, only sample A was accordance with SNI (Indonesia National Standard) No. 7381:2008 which for density was (0.91-0.92) and water content (0.1-0.5%). The teacher appraisal questionnaire about study result and appropriateness of VCO manufacture enzymatic gave cumulative value was 83.20% and it was in very good category.Keyword: VCO (Virgin Coconut Oil), Kelapa (Coconut nucifera L), Enzim Bromelain, Nanas (Ananas comosus L)

Abstract

The process of teaching and learning in the schools only emphasized on the knowledge and understanding aspects and lack develop the skill of critical thinking of students so that they are poorly trained to develop reasoning power in responding and solving problem or applied the concept of science in life. The objective of this study was to improve the critical thinking skill of student using guided inquiry model with SETS (Science, Environment, Technology and Social) vision. This research was conducted in Senior High School (SMAN) 1 Kampar, class of XI IPA-1 and XI IPA-3. Improvement of critical thinking skill of student is measured using pre-test and post-test. The score of pre-test and post-test was analyzed using the N-Gain tested. The result of this study showed that skill to basic explanation, constructing of basic practice, generalization, and hypothesis making as the indicator of thinking ability of student were catagorized as moderate, meanwhile indicator of applied the concept was high with 0.834 of N-Gain value. The critical thinking of students for each indicator were increased that reflected from average value of pre-test and post-test of students. The finding of this study was  guided inquiry model with SETS vision able to improve the critical thinking of student of SMAN 1 Kampar.

Abstract

AbstractThis research was instigated by students’ difficulty at the tenth grade of State Senior High School 10 Pekanbaru in comprehending chemistry concept of Hydrocarbon Lesson that made them unable to achieve optimal learning achievement, thus a teaching lesson was required to guide them to comprehend the concept.  It was done by designing a teaching lesson in the form of handout Guided Inquiry based.  This research aimed at knowing the validity and practicality levels of handout Guided Inquiry based that was valid and practical.  It was a Research and Development (R&D) with 4D (four-D) model, modified by doing limited trials and removing disseminating step.  It was administered at State Senior High School 10 Pekanbaru.  The primary data were collected in this research through questionnaire.  Validity and practicality test questionnaires were the instruments of collecting the data.  The data obtained were analyzed by using Descriptive qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques.  The handout produced was tested, its validity level was 89.94% (very valid) and its practicality level was 76.50% (practical).  Based on these results, it could be identified that the handout tested was appropriate and practical to be an alternative teaching lesson for teachers in a school. Keywords: Handout, Guided Inquiry, Hydrocarbon
