Abstract

The purpose of this research discussion paper is to understand the Islamic issues involved in Space Travel, which is a novel field. Hitherto, only limited research has been undertaken on how Muslim astronauts can maintain their Islam for a prolonged period away from the Earth. This paper will commence with an introduction to Islamic law (which includes the distinct term fiqh), before discussing the obligations of Muslims in space. Also discussed in this paper will be the Maqasid, or higher objectives, which provides an avenue for Muslim space travelers to maintain their Islam within the framework of the religion. The methodology used in this paper is based on research of existing literature, comments from previous Muslim astronauts as well as a review of Muslim law that pertains to travel. The finding of this paper sets out the application of Islamic Law for interstellar Space Travel and off-world colonisation. It discusses the relevant ibadah rulings (literally meaning religious rituals such as prayer, fasting, ablution, keeping halal, and death rites inter alia) and how these can be practically applied in the context of space travel. This paper also outlines the moral, legal and practical challenges faced by a Muslim undertaking Space Travel and discusses the relevant Islamic ‘knowledge’ that may assist in reconciling these issues. The term interstellar Space Travel and colonisation is used to refer to those activities that are performed away from the Earth, such as in the micro-gravity of space or on an off world colony i.e., Mars. This paper is unique from other published papers in the field as it contemplates off world habitation and not just a short-term sojourn into space. The research finding is that Islamic Law is able to adapt to the challenges of space by incorporating how early Muslims maintained their Islam while traveling long distances outside their home countries. This is an emerging area of study, so there is a dearth and scarcity of literature about Muslims in space written from a scholarly perspective. This paper intends to rectify this situation by providing a marker for other scholars and researchers to follow

Abstract

This study is conducted to criticize religious behavior in recent times. This study aims to answer the problem of how to create togetherness by synergy (ukhuwah) mobilizing all components in the context of life in a nation and state. The data of this study were obtained from library sources by applying a library research model with an interdisciplinary approach. The results of the study showed that universal ideas about diversity can be accepted by every intelligent human being. Moreover, there are three main conditions to implement them (universal ideas about diversity). They are; first, Maximum mastery of science and knowledge. Second, Justice reinforcement for human equality. Third, total submission and self-approach to God Almighty. Religion is the most precise medium to describe the true nature of humanity because religion does not only talk about physical things but also beyond human physics. Therefore, a human must understand that togetherness is realized based on humanity, understanding universal values and similar points of diversity, sharpening the function of mind via philosophical practice approach as a method of thinking, mobilizing ukhuwah as the part of net-working the people, and synergize the dimension of heaven and dimension of earth toward intellectual and social piety.

Abstract

Muslims arriving from the subcontinent wanted for learning and teaching Islam in India, especially in history. Ulema and Indian Muslim scholars have contributed a lot in this realm, and the study of Islam has been an area of great interest to non-Muslim writers. Their role in this subject is also of great worth, and their contributions, to name a few, include the translation of the Quran, Seerat, Islamic teachings, Tasawwuf, Muslim history and civilization, and their society and culture. The present Paper is an endeavor to bring a brilliant contribution of the same kind in the field of Islamic Studies to the fore made by a distinguished Indian non-Muslim scholar, Mr. Narendra Nath Law, with special reference to his noted book “Promotion of Learning in India: during Muhammadan Rule (by Muhammadans).” This Paper gives three sections, and the first gives a brief sketch of the book; the second critically reviews the sources on which the content of the book is based; and the third treats with depth investigation and analysis of the views and assumptions of Mr. Law on educational and literary history in India during the long roll of Muslim rulers. The importance of the Paper lies in its focus on the history of learning and teaching Islam in India. By highlighting the contributions of Law, the Paper aims to shed light on the significant role played by non-Muslim scholars in the study of Islam in India, which has often been overlooked.

Abstract

The cost of education has increased, while the government can no longer spend money on education development. In some Muslim countries, education access and opportunities for Muslims remain prolonged. Though Islam prioritizes education advancement for its followers, education attainment among Muslims is disappointing. Scholars and researchers have proposed using the waqf concept for education development in light of potential future scenarios in the current education sector to ensure more affordable and sustainable education for Muslims. Therefore, this study explores the roles of waqf in educational development by applying qualitative content analysis using past studies as references. The study discovered that waqf plays a significant role in supporting three costs of educational development: institution establishment cost, institution operational cost, and institution admission and enrollment cost. These three costs have been proven to be solved with the waqf instrument. It can be applied to all scales of educational institutions. With that, the study contributes to minimizing the gaps in the previous literature and introduces organized roles of waqf in educational development for authorities and relevant parties’ understanding.

Abstract

The subject of interfaith marriage in Indonesia, including its pros and cons, has been in the public purview recently. This research aims to answer public concerns, provide recommendations for strengthening regulations, and even prevent this type of marriage. A qualitative method alongside a sociological approach was applied, while data collection techniques included interviews and literature studies. It was concluded through sadd al-żarī'ah analysis, that interfaith marriage should be prohibited as it only leads to harm and difficulties in households and families. Furthermore, fatḥ al-żarī'ah analysis of the marriage of a Muslim man to an Ahlu al-Kitab woman is permitted by the majority of scholars. This is due to the possibility of benefits, namely the opportunity to guide the woman to embrace Islam. it is emphasized that this possibility is relative, as the Muslim man may change his faith. Therefore, this facility (al-żarī'ah) should not be opened (fatḥ al-żarī'ah). The implications of this study recommend sadd al-żarī'ah as material for consideration in strengthening the rules regarding interfaith marriages in the future. Moreover, the polemic of interfaith marriage should be resolved immediately by affirming and enforcing changes to the marriage law. Legal vacuums in the regulation of this matter should not be allowed or ignored due to the negative impact in terms of social and religious life.

Abstract

Serious concerns have been circulating in academia regarding humanities and how they have been relegated to the backbenches. Data reveal a remarkable decline in submissions for humanities if compared to non-humanities. The current paper proposes that despite this decline, humanities have always been and will continue to be a moving force in shaping intellectual attitudes worldwide. To prove this standpoint, the author employs ecocriticism and eco-poetry as influential sub-disciplines of humanities. With the rocket-speed changeability of the present time, ecocriticism and eco-poetry play a crucial role in judging, evaluating, or even changing the course of cultural advancements if they venture into destructive paths. In other words, ecocritical theory is concerned with monitoring and unveiling versatile anthropocentric activities, most of which are destructive to nature. Fortunately, with the help of authors writing under the influence of ecocriticism, the devastation of many natural spots came to an end. Thus, the study begins by introducing some important phases of the ecocritical project like Anthropocene ecocriticism, Geo-ecocriticism, and Islamecocriticism. Then, an Islamecocritical analysis of "Lake Selby" by Canadian poet I. Layton is presented. The lake suffered from multiple ecological problems. However, the poem along with other scientific warnings successfully alerted the Canadian government. Consequently, the lake's condition improved. Both sections of the study affirm that humanities shape human culture, and they are real and valid disciplines that complement the work of non-humanities. The argument is qualitative, being concerned with literary criticism. Therefore, the research methodology is primarily analytical and descriptive.

Abstract

The ability of zakat institutions to collect zakat funds is still far from the existing potential. The collection of national zakat funds reaches Rp. 11.5 trillion to Rp. 233 trillion from the existing potential, or the funds that have been obtained are 5% of the existing potential. This percentage is still very small, so the development of fundraising needs to be continuously developed and solutions need to be found for existing problems. There is no doubt that the zakat institution is the main driving force behind the collection and distribution of zakat funds, the management development of zakat institutions is important. The problems faced by the management of zakat institutions need to be broken down and solutions sought. This study aims to explore solutions to these problems.
