INOVISH JOURNAL: Journal of Language and Innovation and English Language Teaching is committed to exploring the broad areas of language, creativity and innovation using language as a medium of information and highlighting issues in ELT. Preference is given to articles of English language; articles of this kind will be especially welcome. However, there is no restriction to articles with specifically English content. The journal is published twice a year (June and December) presenting articles containing creativity and innovations using language in producing products , analyses, studies, application of theories, research report, material development, teaching and learning languages and reviews. Contributors are invited from both members of and non-members of the English Department of State Polytechnic of Bengkalis

<![CDATA[Abstract: The aims of this study was to describe the learning atmosphere when the implementation of Web-based learning materials and to find out how the improvement of the students’ basic skill during the implementation of Web-based learning materials. This was classroom action research type of research. The participants of this research were the Business Administration students of State Polytechnic Bengkalis. This research was conducted in two cycles by following the procedure of action research, i.e. planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, interview, questionnaire, and test. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The qualitative data were analyzed using Interactive Model of Data Analysis as propounded by Matthew M. Miles and A.M. Huberman. The results of the research showed that the learning atmosphere also improved. The class became more active, confident, and enjoyable. Furthermore, a Web-based learning material was able to improve the students’ Basic English Skill. It was proven by the increase of the students’ mean score from 41.22 in pre-test to 46.74 in cycle 1, and 49.92 in cycle 2. This result shows that the use of Web-based learning materials has proven to be an effective way in teaching-learning of Basic English skill.]]>

<![CDATA[The application of politeness can be found in daily life through behavior of deeds and words, it also can describes in a public service advertisement. The purpose of this research is to determine and explaine the types and markers of politeness depicted in Public Service Advertisement in Pekanbaru. This research is done chronologically based on three steps, they are; collecting of the data, analysis of the data and presenting the result analysis that is guided by methods and various techniques of language analysis. The data are collecting by observational method. Tap technique is used as the basic technique. In observing the data, pictures of the data are documented by using camera tool of observation. Besides, note-talking technique is also used in documenting the data. Data collected then is analyzed by using pragmatic identity method. The result of the analysis then is presented by using informal method. From the results of analysis, there found eights types of politeness that are applied in Public Service Advertisement in Pekanbaru. Related to politeness markers used in Public Service Advertisement in Pekanbaru there found three politeness markers. <![CDATA[This research aims at explaining the description of child language development to show the capability of a child in producing and comprehending language. This is a descriptive research in which the writer describes all the data like what it is. Next, for presenting the data, the writer used the written form in order to give more explanation to the reader. From the data conducted it shows that Children utter their first word when they are around one year old; Three years old child is able to produce around 950 words; 95% of the words said by three years old child is clear; Three years old child is able to use prepositions correctly; He also understands simple questions, can identify color and counts items; The dominant case of language when a child is around three years old is unclear and unfamiliar words.]]>

<![CDATA[Mastering grammar is important in learning English. In grammar, the words pattern and tenses should be considered as main focus for the discussion. Therefore, this study aimed to find out the ability of the students in completing sentences with correct gerund and to infinitive verb forms . This research was a descriptive research. This study showed that the level of the students ability was at mediocre level. It was at 53. The error commonly occured slighly the same in completing both gerund and to infinitive verb forms. The average score of gerund was 52 and 54 points for to infinitive.]]>

<![CDATA[Mastering English is very important for everyone around the world. By mastering English, everyone can communicate well and do all things related to English. However, learning using medium will surely help to understand the lesson well, and then they can learn English in a more effective and interesting way. The main purpose of this final project is to make Tin and Rubber Ball Game to learn English vocabulary for Elementary school students. The method used for this study is descriptive research. There were several processes taken to complete this game and the final project, started from collecting the materials, designing processes, and making the game. The result of this study was a set of tin game, consisting of eight tins consisting of eight topics, two rubbers and ten cards about the topics in each of tin. By using this game, students can learn and improve their English vocabulary.]]>

<![CDATA[Speaking skills has become the major priority to be taught between the four skills since communicative approach communication has been influenced in foreign language learning. Random Picture game is one of communicative technique that can motivate students in speaking English. This study aimed to find out the effect of using Random Picture Game toward students’ speaking ability at the second semester students of Business English Study Program. This research used experimental research design. It was conducted at State Polytechnic of Bengkalis. The design of this research was pre-experimental design with one group pretest and posttest. The population of this research was the second semester students with the total population was 20. The sample was taken by saturation sampling. This technique included all members of the population as the sample of the study. 20 students was the sample of this research. The result of this research was students who were taught by using random picture game had a significant effect toward speaking ability. In conclusion, random picture game can be used as a teaching technique in teaching speaking. For further researchers, this technique can be applied by English lecturers to other skills.  Keywords: Speaking ability, random picture game, pre experimental design]]>

<![CDATA[In language learning, vocabulary knowledge is considered as a dominant factor, either as a second or a foreign language. Vocabulary knowledge is justified as a crucial site to overall language acquisition process. There are a lot of unknown words that language learners encounter while they are reading are probably the very basic and fundamental reasons. In this notion, the learner may have difficulties in comprehending the text they are reading. Language learner and educators alike know that many of the reading comprehension breakdowns that experienced by students involve word recognition and lexical access course. Hence, this paper is an attempt to extend knowledge of vocabulary and its relationship with reading comprehension. Through the review of various views in vocabulary role and reading comprehension, intended to broaden knowledge of vocabulary and its relationship with reading comprehension. ]]>

<![CDATA[The aim of this study was to make a video to promote Rupat Island to the international tourists as a tourism destination. The method used in this study was a descriptive research. There were several steps in making this video; starting from collecting the materials, creating the video script, shooting process, recording the voice for the video. converting the files, until editing the video. The result of this study is a promotional video narrated in English that contains both natural and cultural tourism objects and attractions in Rupat Island such as: Beting Aceh Beach, Lapin Beach, Makeruh Beach, Suku Akit Tradition, Mandi Safar Festival, Zapin Api Dance, etc. This video is expected to help the government of Bengkalis Regency in promoting Rupat Island as a tourism destination in the future.]]>

<![CDATA[Abstract: English mastery requires students to have sufficient knowledge about four skills, namely listening, speaking, writing and reading. In addition, other knowledge such as grammar is crucial too. Regarding grammar, students often get difficulty to use English accurately. This descriptive study aimed at finding out students’ ability in selecting correct troublesome verbs. The study result showed that the level of students’ ability was at mediocre level, 44.72. Furthermore, it showed that the highest score obtained by the students was 65, while the lowest score was 30. For the classification of troublesome verb, the most difficult was to differentiate the use of “bring and take†where 6 students (33.33%) were in very poor level.Keywords: Study, students’ ability, troublesome verbs]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this study is to reveal what kinds the students’ reading strategies. The Participant in this research were the students of third semester of English Education Department of STKIP Muhammadiyah Pringsewu lampung who took Reading 2. There were 38 students who involved in this research. Since this research used qualitative research design that involved case study, the researcher only took 5 students as the representative of group created by researcher in order to get rich and deep information. The data collecting technique used in this research were think-aloud protocol, reflective journal that uploaded through wordpress and interview guide for reading strategies. In analyzing the data, the researcher carried out some activities, namely describing, classifying, and connecting. The research finding obviously describe that the students used three main strategies in reading namely, Cognitive Reading Strategy, Metacognitive Reading Strategy and Compensation Reading Strategy.]]>
