Abstract

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) is a potential multipurpose crop to be developed in Indonesia and has a wide adaptation and can grow on all types of soil except on acidic yellow-red soil. The experiment conducted aimed to evaluate the Brix levels and agronomic characters of several sorghum varieties in the flag leaf phase. This experiment was conducted at the Glasshouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Mataram University from May to September 2023. The design used in this experiment was a completely randomized design (CRD) with variety as a treatment, namely the varieties Gando Bura, Gando Keta, Bioguma, Samurai, Super 1, Super 2, and Suri 4. In this experiment, each treatment was repeated 3 times so that there were 21 experimental units. The parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, number of tillers, leaf angle, stem diameter, dry matter weight, and Brix content. Observation data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at the 5% level. The results showed that the agronomic characters and brix levels of local and national sorghum varieties in the flag leaf phase had significant differences in the parameters of plant height, leaf angle, stem diameter, dry matter weight, and average Brix levels of plant stems. The highest plant height and dry matter weight were found in the Super 2 variety, the largest leaf angle was found in the Suri 4 variety, the largest stem diameter was found in the Suri 4 and Super 2, and the highest brix levels were found in the Super 2, Suri 4, and Gando Keta.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the added value of catfish processing at MSME Mang Ncun. This study was conducted in March 2024 in Ganjar Sabar Village, Nagreg District, Bandung Regency. The method used is a case study method with a purposive sampling method. The types of data used are primary data and secondary data. Primary data were obtained from interviews with business founders. Secondary data were obtained from the Bandung Regency Food and Fisheries Service, as well as literature studies related to this research. The data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively to measure the overall components of added value that could answer the research objectives. The analysis method used to calculate added value is the Hayami method. The research results show that the added value generated from processed catfish products creates an added value of IDR 178,000/kg, the ratio of added value to product value is 58%. This shows that the catfish processing business at MSME Mang Ncun in Nagreg District, Bandung Regency provides high added value.

Abstract

Increasing corn production can be done by carrying out extensification in marginal areas, one of which is acidic soil. However, problems in acidic soil include low soil fertility and high Al content which can poison plants. One approach that can be taken is the use of tolerant corn varieties. This study aims to evaluate the growth and tolerance levels of several corn varieties to aluminum stress. The study was conducted from January to February 2024 at the Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Tissue Culture Laboratory and Biology Laboratory of Andalas University. The study used a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a concentration treatment of 0 ppm, 180 ppm AlCl3 and corn varieties, each consisting of three replications. Each replication consisted of 8 plants with 4 sample plants planted on seedbed media containing Hoagland nutrient solution composition. The results of the study from the six varieties evaluated showed that there were 3 varieties, namely P32, Bisi 18, and Lamuru, which were classified as somewhat tolerant to aluminum stress.

Abstract

Potatoes are one of the leading food commodities in Indonesia. However, there are indications of a decline in potato production due to a decrease in the national potato harvest area. Apart from that, West Java, as one of the provinces with the highest potato production in Indonesia, has experienced a decline in potato production. The success of potato farming in West Java greatly determines the availability of national potato supplies. The success of potato farming is not only seen from the production results but also the large profits received by potato farmers. This research aims to analyze the characteristics of West Java potato farmers and the factors that influence the success of potato farming in West Java. The analytical tools used are descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. The research results show that potato farmers in West Java generally have a low level of education, with an average education equivalent to 7 years or elementary school (SD). However, they have quite a lot of farming experience, an average of 23 years. The average age of farmers is 46 years, which is classified as productive age. As many as 62% of farmers control land with irrigation, and 74% use their own capital to finance their potato farming. The results of the regression analysis show that the success of potato farming in West Java is significantly influenced by experience, age, land area, labor, fertilizer, pesticides, varieties, and participation in land markets. Key-words: Potatoes, characteristics of potato farmers, potato farming inputs, success of potato farming.

Abstract

This study aims to identify business characteristics, analyze the amount of production costs, revenues, income, feasibility, and production risks in an independent pattern broiler chicken farming business using an open and closed cage system in Sindon Village. The study sample consisted of 10 chicken farmers using a closed cage system and five chicken farmers using an open cage system. Data collection was done by interviews and questionnaires. The results showed that the characteristics of the livestock business with an open cage system had an average length of business running for 8 years and the number of chickens harvested for one year was 178,375 heads, while the characteristics of the livestock business with a closed cage system had an average length of business running for 9 years and the number of chickens harvested for one year was 641,772 heads. Livestock businesses with closed cages in each period have greater total production costs, total revenues, and revenues than livestock businesses with open cages, but both livestock businesses are equally profitable and feasible to run because they both obtain R/C values > 1. Keywords: Income and feasibility, broiler breed chicken farming, open-air and closed cage system. INTISARIPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi karakteristik usaha, menganalisis besarnya biaya produksi, penerimaan, pendapatan, kelayakan, pada usaha peternakan ayam ras Broiler pola mandiri dengan menggunakan sistem kandang terbuka dan tertutup di Desa Sindon. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 10 peternak ayam dengan menggunakan sistem kandang tertutup dan lima peternak ayam dengan menggunakan sistem kandang terbuka. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara dan kuesioner. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakteristik usaha peternakan dengan sistem kandang terbuka memiliki rata-rata lama usaha berjalan selama 8 tahun dan jumlah ayam terpanen selama satu tahun sebanyak 178.375 ekor, sedangkan karakteristik usaha peternakan dengan sistem kandang tertutup memiliki rata-rata lama usaha berjalan selama 9 tahun dan jumlah ayam terpanen selama satu tahun sebanyak 641.772 ekor. Usaha peternakan dengan kandang tertutup pada setiap periodenya memiliki total biaya produksi, total penerimaan, dan pendapatan yang lebih besar dibandingkan usaha peternakan dengan kandang terbuka, namun kedua usaha peternakan tersebut sama-sama menguntungkan dan layak dijalankan karena sama-sama memperoleh nilai R/C > 1. Kata Kunci: Pendapatan dan kelayakan, peternakan ayam ras broiler, sistem kandang terbuka dan tertutup.

Abstract

Curly red chilies are a horticultural crop product that has high economic value but is easily damaged. Storage temperature conditions and exposure to oxygen can influence the rate of decline in the quality of curly red chilies, so determining the type of packaging with optimum permeability according to the needs of red chili metabolic activity is very important to pay attention to. This research aims to analyze the effect of plastic packaging type in inhibiting the rate of decline in the quality of curly red chilies in low temperature storage. The research method used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a single factor, namely the treatment of the type of plastic packaging (P), which consisted of 6 levels of treatment, namely Polypropylene (PP), Polyethylene (PE), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), Wrapping and Control. Each treatment unit was carried out 3 times. The quality parameters observed were changes in water content, weight loss, damage, hardness and color with measurement intervals every 2 days during storage. The results of the research showed that the treatment of the type of plastic packaging at low temperature storage had a significant effect on the water content, weight loss, damage, hardness and color of curly red chilies during storage. The Polypropylene plastic packaging treatment was better able to maintain the quality of curly red chilies until day-16 with a water content of 79.98%, the lowest weight loss of 9.67%, the lowest damage of 36.19%, hardness of 9.59 N, the highest color index L* (brightness) of 31.77 and a * (reddish) high 35.46.

Abstract

Lumut Kayen Variety Guava is a local variety of guava from Pati Regency with a greenish color, a fruit weight of 60-100 g, and a sweet taste. Research on the application of auxin and the number of entres leaves on the graft shoots of the Lumut Kayen variety has never been carried out, therefore a study was carried out to determine the effect of Indole Acetic Acid (IAA) concentration and the number of entres leaves on the growth of the graft of the Lumut Kayen variety guava shoots. The research was carried out in Jatimulyo Village, Wedarijaksa, Pati in June - August 2023. The research is a two-factor factorial experiment using a Complete Randomize Block Design. The first factor is the concentration of auxin, consisting of three levels, namely: 0, 100, and 200 ppm. The second factor is that the number of entres leaves consists of three levels, namely: 0, 2, and 4 leaves, so that 9 combinations of treatments are repeated three times. The results showed that IAA concentration had an effect on the time of bud appearance, but had no effect on the number of shoots and the number of leaves. The fastest budding time was obtained at IAA concentration treatment of 200 ppm, which was 8.22 days. The number of entres leaves affects the time of bud appearance, the number of buds, and the number of leaves. The number of 4-leaf entres gives the fastest budding time (7.65 days), the number of shoots, and the highest number of leaves at 8 weeks after grafting, which is 7.46 buds and 20.89 leaves respectively. There was no interaction between IAA concentration and the number of entres leaves on the growth of guava seedlings.
